A star is born once again
AlsExGal4 June 2023
Chicago film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert review the films coming out at Christmas in this 1976 episode, only the second of two episodes that year.

This week they had a positive reaction to the following: King Kong, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, The Enforcer, Network, Rocky, Nickelodeon, Silver Streak. They both had negative reactions to A Star Is Born. They both liked it when Streisand was performing, but didn't like the melodrama and asked the very good question - Why remake this yet again?

I was surprised by their reaction to "King Kong" and Jessica Lange who was a newcomer at the time. I thought her performance was very campy and I had the same question here that Siskel and Ebert had about "A Star Is Born" - Why remake this yet again?

Their "dogs of the month" were "APE" for Gene Siskel and "At The Earth's Core" for Roger Ebert. Gene described "APE" as a rip-off of King Kong. But wasn't the 1976 version of King Kong that they just reviewed also a rip off of the original? Question never asked and thus not answered.
