Berkelium is a synthetic, radioactive lanthanide element with a half life measured in days. So it's expensive, there's not much around at any one time and it doesn't last long making it tough to study. But scientists have found that it's inner electrons don't quite follow the rules of quantum mechanics probably because they move so fast that relativistic effect come into play.—David Foss
