kind of interesting but...

...not really very good at all.

I mean, I really liked Harmony Korine's voice over due to it being so poetic and odd, but the cinematography and actual video are pretty atrocious. If this was just a written work, I would have liked it much better, because the writing here is quite good. It seems to be just Korine celebrating "curb dancing" in a well written and wonderfully weird manner. But then the actual video is so uninteresting and bad looking. Its shot on terrible VHS style video which makes my eyes want to bleed, and the video itself is not clever in the slightest. Its literally just Harmony Korine curb dancing-and that's it! They could have at least tried to create something interesting or artistic here, but they didn't!

Warning: Spoilers
This is a 2-minute movie written and directed by Harmony Korine, which you see a man curb dancing for the entire film while he keeps rambling about 2 people on death row first and afterward about how curb dancing is man's gift to entertain the Gods. A truly strange short movie. The man in the film is Korine himself and you may know him if you saw his summer hit movie "Spring Breakers" a couple years ago. The talk about the murders in this short film reminded me a bit of the action at the end of "Spring Breakers", but this is really just a reference, so I can try to make any sense of these 2 minutes. Could you imagine Spielberg, Scorsese or Polanski dance in front of a camera while dressed in pink as a woman? Well.. that's why they don't do it. There's really nothing funny about this short movie and obviously nothing dramatic either. Not recommended.

A Contemporary Masterpiece

I believe this to be a little masterpiece of cinema. It is a poem, short and sweet. His voice over is an honest truth, full of all of the artistic themes and traits that Korine carries. The way it is filmed is reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin. It has the essence of silent film. Old film has a way of aging, having frayed edges and overblown light. This film, does this somewhat intentionally, giving it a beautiful timeless quality. This film floats above all over contemporary cinema, floating in a poetic world of its own. You cannot beat the simplicity and beauty of this film. Long Live Harmony Korine.
