On July 21st, "Weird Al" Yankovic finished up his #8videos8days project through the Wall Street Journal, where he released a music video for "Mission Statement", a song about business jargon. That video wrapped up an impressive week for Weird Al. His decision to scatter new material all over the web made him a hot topic on the Internet, and his forward-thinking approach has drawn plenty of commentary. At the same time, there seem to be a few aspects of the Weird Al discussion that aren't drawing enough chatter. In particular, much of the talk around Weird Al's #8videos8days project reduces him to a parody trailblazer who is attempting to reclaim his appeal on an Internet replete with imitators. This is a big part of the discussion, but Weird Al's unique distribution strategy offers some tips for any artist--big or small, serious or not--who wishes to effectively...

Only five days into "Weird Al" Yankovic's brilliant Mandatory Fun daily video release, and we've already seen him transform into an inarguably tacky dresser, a blond handyman and a paranoid foil salesman on television. On New Year's Eve 2011, three men entered a stage. Those three men were Steven Tyler, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Alice Cooper. They sang "Come Together" by the Beatles. If those in the audience told their friends, their friends would not believe them. But now, we have proof that magical things can, indeed, come true in 2012.
Heralding the year 2012 after, we assume, an exclusive meeting of the Society Of Guys With Beautiful Hair Well After We Thought Was Possible, the three men did the most surreal karaoke we've ever seen in Hawaii at the Mala Ocean Tavern in Wailea, Maui. The late-period Beatles record (which had previously been covered by Tyler as an early Aerosmith hit) got the supergroup treatment it deserves in front of an enthusiastic crowd. And thanks to YouTube user johno808maui, we can experience it for ourselves.
Somehow, these men are more relevant than ever. Although your...

Comedy Central has announced that it's teaming up with "Weird Al" Yankovic to present his first televised concert special in a decade. Filmed during this past summer's "Alpocalypse" tour, the special will premiere on Comedy Central on Saturday, October 1, and be available on DVD & BluRay October 4.
The concert film will feature Yankovic performing songs from his latest album, including the Lady Gaga parody "Perform This Way," as well as many of his greatest hits like "White & Nerdy," "Amish Paradise" and "Fat."
According to the press release Comedy Central issued today, the special is the result of Yankovic's continuing and evolving strength as an artist.
