A24 is backing a new documentary titled “Open Wide,” about an orthodontist whose controversial method of reshaping people’s jawlines went viral on TikTok for all the wrong reasons.
Sara Goldblatt directed “Open Wide,” which will be available to watch Jan. 23 on Netflix.
The documentary explores a father and son who are fighting to upend mainstream orthodontics. According to the official logline, “John Mew has waged a lonely war against the industry — and that teenage rite of passage, braces, for decades. With his son Mike now taking up the fight, the Mews’ fringe theories have turned into a full-blown online sensation. But even while mewing goes viral on TikTok and the Mews churn out content for their millions of followers, Mike is pursued by the British Orthodontic Society and threatened with expulsion by the very people who took away his father’s license.”

Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy franchise) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) are teaming with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto on The Wrecking Crew, the buddy action comedy that they’ve set up at MGM, Deadline can confirm.
Bautista and Momoa were both in talks for the film, scripted by Warrior creator Jonathan Tropper, long before the SAG-AFTRA strike. Tropper’s deal was negotiated and closed, and his script submitted, prior to the WGA strike began in early May.
Plot details are under wraps for now, but Bautista and Momoa sold the pitch to MGM following a four-bidder battle in the fall 2021, as we were first to report. Jeffrey Fierson, Momoa’s collaborator on the Netflix/Discovery Canada series Frontier, will produce.

Two sensational stories collide in Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed, a new three-part documentary series airing on Peacock. One helped bring the culture into the era of nonstop TV crime and jurisprudence coverage: the grisly 1989 murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez by their sons, Erik and Lyle. The other involves the former Puerto Rican boy band sensation Menudo, and longstanding accusations of sexual abuse against the group’s Svengali and manager, Edgardo Díaz. The Menendez brothers, currently serving life in prison, have always maintained that their father raped them from the time they were small children.

Three decades ago, the infamous trial of Lyle and Erik Menendez riled the nation as people watched the brothers plead their case against the murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. In 1996, the Menendez brothers were sentenced to life in prison. Throughout their trial, the defense argued Lyle and Erik murdered their parents out of fear after years of sexual molestation by their music executive father Jose. Now, decades later, another allegation has been brought forth, this time by Roy Rosselló, a former member of the Puerto Rican boy band sensation Menudo, who says that he was sexually assaulted as a teenager by Jose Menendez, the New York Times reported.
The “Today” show aired these allegations on Tuesday during an exclusive first look at the upcoming three-part Peacock docuseries, “Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.”

It's for good reason that "The George Lopez Show" has become so iconic in the 20 years since it first premiered. It has become a shared piece of pop culture, conjuring nostalgia and pride. It aired on network TV for six seasons and drew in millions, which is still almost unheard of for a show with a predominately Latinx cast dealing with Latinx issues. We're the generation of the cancelation after all.

A sizable portion of that audience was Latinx - around 14 percent, at the time. "The George Lopez Show" is definitely for us - with in-jokes stemming from cross-national teasing, the occasional Spanish, and nods to la cultura like our love of baseball along with some of the real struggles that come with being Latinx and living in the States. But it is also a show with mainstream ambitions. The...

The nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmys will be announced on July 12, and shows like HBO’s “Succession,” Netflix’s “Squid Game,” ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” and Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” are expected to dominate and rack up multiple mentions. However, consumers may be unaware that certain shows did not fall in the release window and thus are not eligible for this year’s nominations.
Coming off a huge Fourth of July weekend, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” will be in an even stranger position for the following two Emmy ceremonies. The first seven episodes that dropped on the platform during Memorial Day weekend were submitted for consideration for the 74th ceremony and are eligible in categories like outstanding drama series and supporting acting races, including Millie Bobby Brown (as Eleven), Sadie Sink (as Max) and the season’s two new favorites Jamie Campbell Bower (as the villainous...
