- The King of France revenges himself on King Alfonso of Naples for the plague, and after finding pornographic frescoes the Pope decides to revive Roman bacchanalia.
- With the King of France in Naples and a peace of sorts arrived at, Rodrigo swears revenge against those who plotted against him. Cardinal Della Rovere is poisoned, though he survives the attempt on his life. Cesare and Juan continue to fight despite Rodrigo's pleas to unite with him against their enemies. Rodrigo also decides to hold a celebration for the people of Rome on a pagan feast day featuring a horse race and a large effigy of a bull. He also discovers a beautiful young woman, Vittoria, who is posing as a boy so that she can be an artists apprentice. The Pope's mistress, Giulia Farnese, is not pleased. In Naples, plague has wiped out much of the population and Prince Alfonso, who introduced the plague, is tracked down and taken prisoner.—garykmcd
- The poison administered to cardinal Della Rovere just fails to kill him, so Cesare leaves it with this warning, but Michelotto drowns the accomplice altar boy. Giulia discovers Rodrgo's infidelity in her absence but keeps quiet, as when she discovers that Bramante's apprentice Vittoria is a girl in boy's cloths. Hunting with his mistress, the pope stumbles upon Ancient frescoes and has them brought to a new Vatican museum wing. the incident also inspires him to reinstate 'christianized' games, including the burning of a wooden bull (the Borgia crest animal) and a horse race, which Juan wins by crippling Cesare's horse. Prince Alfonso, heir of Napels, is hunted down on the Vesuvias by hounds and dragged to the French usurper of his throne, king Charles, who decides to punish him for the pestilence which the king is recovering from. The cruel methods are those of Alfonso's late father, on exhibit in a well-stocked torture chamber Alfonso must initially just give a tour in.—KGF Vissers
