Gather all your friends. Platonic is headed back to Apple TV + for Season 2.
In some ways, Platonic Season 1 felt like a limited series, but we're excited to have more time with Will, Sylvia, Charlie, and the other characters.
Platonic filled us with lots of drama and laughter, mainly because Rose Bryne and Seth Rogan worked together previously on the comedic film "Neighbors" along with creators and writers Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller.
Let's hope the second season is as successful as the first one.
While the second season may be a ways off, let's discuss possible release dates, Season 2 plot lines, cast, and everything we know so far.
Has Platonic Been Renewed?
Apple TV + renewed Platonic for Season 2 in December 2023. While the buddy comedy was initially planned as a limited series, it attracted a large following.
Co-creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco commented, "We're so thrilled to have the opportunity...

Fallout is the most exciting Amazon Original dropping this month. From Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, this long-awaited adaptation of the popular video game franchise looks incredible, and is bound to be a hit among video game fans and newcomers alike. The series stars Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Walton Goggins (The Righteous Gemstones), and Aaron Clifton Moten (Disjointed).
Prime Video doesn’t have much else in the way of original offerings this month, aside from the return of Alex Rider on Freevee a few other films and TV series, but there are plenty of popular films joining the streaming service’s library. Cloverfield, Batman & Robin, Titanic, and The Notebook are just a few of the notable movies coming to Prime this month.

The Walt Disney Company is getting ready to start construction on acres of land it owns. The project would see affordable housing made available to thousands of families, but some locals aren’t too happy about it.
Disney’s housing initiative would see 1,400 apartments added to an area residents say is already congested. According to the Orlando Sentinel, someone living close to the developing area on Hartzog Road called Disney “bad neighbors.”
Resident Alex Cabrera also believes Disney’s plans will flood the area:
“They’re trying to pack an enormous amount of density into what is essentially the size of a Costco parking lot.“
Stephen Lewis, president and CEO of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce, doesn’t see it the same way. He believes the Disney’s affordable housing initiative is required for the prosperity of the county:

It may be hard to think of the famous King Kong as anything but a giant, scary gorilla, but the character has also always been a metaphor. As Quentin Tarantino had a character point out in one of the best scenes in "Inglourious Basterds," Kong's basic story is a clear parallel for the plight of enslaved people taken to the U.S.
That might sound like a progressive allegory, as the chaos Kong wreaks on New York could be seen as karmic justice for the U.S.' history of racism and slavery, but the execution was pretty questionable. There've been decades of debate over whether Kong's story is a critique of racism or an endorsement of it. "This is, again, a big, Black man -- right? -- a big, black ape who is absolutely obsessed with whiteness and particularly white women," said media studies professor Robin R. Means Coleman in a 2017 NPR interview.

One of the most acclaimed movies of 2023 is coming home: A24 has announced that "The Iron Claw" will be available on Blu-ray and DVD next month. But for those who aren't committed to picking up a physical copy of the film, it is also available to rent on VOD from a variety of digital retailers right now. So there are plenty of options, with even more on the way in the coming months (we'll get to that in a moment).
A24's wrestling drama about the Von Erichs "The Iron Claw" (read /Film's review here) is currently available to rent from retailers such as Apple TV+, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube, among others. It is priced at $19.99 for a 48-hour rental, which is the standard premium VOD price that studios began running with a few years ago. That price typically drops several weeks after the initial Digital release date.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert premiered to a rapturous, midnight-screening reception at Cannes on May 15, 1994. The tart, feel-good comedy follows a trio of Sydney drag queens — Terrence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce — who travel by bus (that’s Priscilla) to a gig in the Outback, finding their way into hijinks and eye-popping outfits along the way. The film became a crossover sensation and even won an Oscar for its costumes (this despite having a costume budget of approximately $5,000). Its writer-director Stephan Elliott joins THR‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast this week to reveal all about this making of the comedy classic on the cusp of its 30th birthday. Here are five facinating takeaways from the episode:
Guy Pearce Was Desperate to Shed his Soap Opera Image

Peter Farrelly made his name in Hollywood by directing raunchy comedies such as "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" alongside his brother, Bobby Farrelly. Since going solo, however, Peter Farrelly has been making more serious fare such as the Oscar-winning "Green Book." But now, he's back with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Ricky Stanicky." With an A-list cast and a ridiculous premise, it looks like a throwback in every conceivable way. Check out the trailer above for yourself.
Here, Farrelly is re-teaming with Zac Efron, who worked with him on "The Greatest Beer Run Ever." While Efron is coming off of the most serious performance of his career in "The Iron Claw," this sees him going back to his comedic roots, having previously starred in films like "Neighbors" and "Dirty Grandpa." Meanwhile, John Cena is getting to flex his comedic chops as well as the titular character.

There are many actors whose public image will forever be defined by one iconic role. Al Pacino and Michael Corleone. Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter. Zac Efron and Troy Bolton.
To millions of millennials and zoomers, Zachary David Alexander Efron will forever be associated with his role as Troy in Disney’s “High School Musical” trilogy of TV films. A cultural phenomenon that remains a beloved nostalgic favorite today, the franchise made Efron a teen idol at 18, and “The Iron Claw” star’s performance as romantic lead Troy forever defined his public image moving forward: an impossibly earnest sweetheart jock, the type of high school heartthrob that could only exist in a Disney version of reality.
A straight to TV movie musical for tweens isn’t the most prestigious way to begin your career, but Efron, for his part, has mostly spoken fondly about the experience in the years since.

Seth Rogen’s production company Point Grey Pictures is teaming up with the studio that backed its raunchy, R-rated hits like “Neighbors,” “Good Boys” and “Blockers.”

Point Grey Pictures, the powerhouse production company run by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, has signed a first-look deal with Universal Pictures.
Details of the deal are being kept in a purple haze but it is being described as a traditional film pact in which Point Grey will produce movies across various genres.
The company previously had a content deal with Lionsgate, a pact signed in 2019, and prior to that, with production company Good Universe. Sources say Point Grey’s television deal will remain with Lionsgate.
Point Grey and Universal have worked together before. The banner produced comedy hits Neighbors, and its sequel, both in which Rogen starred, as well as the very well-regarded comedy Good Boys and the profitable Blockers.

Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake is exiting the studio. He’ll hand the reins to Adam Fogelson, who formerly lead both Universal Pictures and STX Motion Picture Group; Fogelson joined Lionsgate’s film group in 2022 as vice chair. This is now the third studio Fogelson will lead dating back to 2009.
Drake returned to Lionsgate in 2017 after starting Good Universe Pictures, which Lionsgate acquired from Drake. He most recently oversaw Lionsgate’s first $1 billion year at the global box office since 2019, thanks in large part to new “John Wick,” “Hunger Games,” and “Saw” films. Drake also oversaw the successes of “Knives Out,” “Jesus Revolution,” “Shotgun Wedding,” and more.
Fogelson and Drake will continue to work together over the next couple of months.

The outcomes in wrestling might be staged, but the pain is very real. Pro wrestlers grapple, smash, and slam each other around for our amusement, and several documentaries and features already consider the long-term physical and emotional effects of life in the ring. But Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw might be the best of them, a heartbreaking true story about one of the sport’s biggest dynasties and the curse they sought to climb out from under.
The film begins with Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany) in the ring, delivering his famous finishing move – from which the film gets its name – to an opponent as his fans cheer him on. But the majority of the film follows him in his career as a promoter in Texas, where his true iron grip is on his sons, each of whom he trains and berates in order to help them secure what...

Cameron Diaz appeared on a recent episode of the “Lipstick on the Rim” podcast and pushed back against rumors that Jamie Foxx was “crazy” on the set of their Netflix movie “Back in Action” (via People). Foxx was in the midst of production when he was hospitalized for a medical emergency. Diaz said reports surfaced afterwards saying Foxx was “making everyone miserable and that I was never gonna make another movie again because of him.”
“I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time,” Diaz continued. “You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?’ … Jamie is, like, the cheerleader for the entire crew. Everybody loves him. We have so much fun on the set with him and he’s just a professional on every level.”

There are no Black characters in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ caustic family drama Appropriate, but they nevertheless haunt the play. They are the unmarked graves scattered over the grounds of the former plantation home in southeast Arkansas, where the story’s action takes place. They are the spirits, felt like a shiver by guests in the home. And they are the objects collected — hoarded, really — over decades by the estate’s patriarch.
He’s dead now, and Appropriate, which opened Monday at Second Stage’s Hayes Theater in New York, concerns the blistering reunion of his heirs. The production is the first of Jacobs-Jenkins’ original works to be on Broadway and is staged by Lila Neugebauer (Causeway), who directed the dramatist’s Everybody at Signature Theater in 2017.
Appropriate begins with the shrill whine of cicadas. As that noise quiets, others intensify: the sounds of bodies shuffling in the bushes and the grunts of physical exertion.

Jon Hamm is getting his own Apple show — finally!
The Emmy-winning Mad Men grad, who previously “begged” Apple for a show of his own in a tongue-in-cheek ad for the streamer, will star in and exec produce the straight-to-series Apple drama Your Friends and Neighbors. The role marks Hamm’s first starring role in an ongoing drama series since AMC’s Mad Men wrapped its seven-season run in 2015.
Your Friends and Neighbors, based on an original idea by Jonathan Tropper (See, Warrior, Banshee), revolves around Coop (Hamm), a recently divorced hedge fund manager who, after being fired, resorts to stealing from the wealthy residents in his tony upstate New York suburb in order to keep his family’s lifestyle afloat. The petty crimes begin to reinvigorate him until he breaks into the wrong house at the wrong time.
Tropper will serve as showrunner and exec produce via his overall deal with Apple.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne played a happily married couple to great success in the Neighbors films. But when the franchise’s director, Nicholas Stoller, approached them to star opposite each other in his and wife Francesca Delbanco’s Apple TV+ comedy Platonic, he was after a different dynamic.
He was eager to trade on their chemistry while assuring audiences that their characters, who play longtime friends, would never actually hook up. Rogen and Byrne both jumped in, debuting their first hard-r — or, in this case, TV-ma — comedy in years.
With the actors strike behind them, the duo hopped on a Zoom from opposite coasts in early December to discuss their onscreen partnership, the future of the series and why Rogen fears his scalp may never be the same.
Why was this the next project that you two wanted to do together?

One of the biggest and some would say overused tropes in horror movies is the killer stalking people in an outdoor setting. The main series for this is, of course, the Friday the 13th series but we have nearly countless other examples to pull from. Sometimes, like today’s entry, or The Burning, these stories and movies can be based on true events and make it even more frightening. Unlike The Burning, which is based on an urban legend with the true story being far from fact, Wolf Creek (watch it Here) had an original script that was tweaked to be based on the real life killers Ivan Milat and Bradley John Murdoch...

Friends star Lisa Kudrow made a nice career out of being the lovable Phoebe Buffay for the show’s eight-season run. But once the sitcom reached its end, Kudrow thought that her acting career would, too.
Lisa Kudrow wasn’t sure what she would do after ‘Friends’ Lisa Kudrow | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Kudrow has been finding steady work in the film industry after Friends’ series finale. Her filmography shows she’s been quite a busy actor both on the big and small screens over the years. Some of her notable post-Friends material include Easy A, Neighbors, and the short-lived HBO series The Comeback. But initially, Kudrow didn’t know if her future had more acting in store after she parted ways with Phoebe. She considered channeling her creativity through other means.

Zac Efron was a new face in one of Seth Rogen’s raunchy comedies Neighbors. But a fight scene in the film ended up getting out of hand, resulting in Efron slightly injuring himself.
How Zac Efron injured himself in this Seth Rogen comedy Zac Efron | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Efron didn’t have to audition for the hit comedy Neighbors. Rogen was already very familiar with the actor, and offered Efron the starring role that he gladly accepted. Efron played a wild sorority frat boy living next door to Rogen’s character, which the High School Musical star helped create.
“One thing he was vocal about, which was very smart, was making a movie that wasn’t just critical of fraternity life,” Rogen once told The Hollywood Reporter. “Most of us are nerdy comedy-writer guys, and he’s not, so it was very helpful to have the voice of the other group.

Old Dads is a comedy film directed by Bill Burr, who also co-wrote the film with Ben Tishler. The Netflix film follows three middle-aged men, who find themselves not fitting in the customs of the modern and often times very fragile and easily offended world. Burr’s style of comedy makes the film work as he also stars in the lead role alongside Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine. So, if you loved the Netflix film here are some similar movies you could watch next.

Today, Disney+ and Hulu unleashed a new take on R.L. Stine's beloved "Goosebumps" book series with a TV series adaptation developed by Rob Letterman (director of the 2015 "Goosebumps" movie) and Nicholas Stoller. Trust me when I say you'll want to give this series a chance, because it takes the scares to a more mature level than we've seen in previous "Goosebumps" adaptations and injects it with a refreshing and genuine teenage perspective, both in comedy and horror.
For those who maybe haven't been keeping up, the new "Goosebumps" series follows a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents' past.

Margot Robbie may not have been as experienced as her Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. But that didn’t stop the actor from taking charge during their love scene, which DiCaprio wasn’t expecting at all.

Despite how badly Robbie wanted to star in Wolf of Wall Street, the actor wasn’t afraid to take certain chances with the role. This attitude famously led to Robbie smacking DiCaprio during their Wolf of Wall Street audition, which ultimately secured her the film. But in the midst of shooting the movie, Robbie showed that she also wasn’t worried about taking charge in certain scenes with her veteran co-star.

Can it really be 20 years since “The O.C.” premiered on Fox? The young actors of the series, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson quickly became in-demand stars and the theme song “California” by Phantom Planet became a top ten hit in several countries while also reaching 35 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.
The bagel-centric series also introduced us to “Chrismukkah” and showcased bands from The Killers to Modest Mouse.
Several members of the cast went on to lead their own series and films and others have popped up on hit shows from “How I Met Your Mother” to “Grey’s Anatomy.” Here’s what they’ve been up to since “The O.C.” signed off in February 2007.

Rose Byrne jumped at the chance to voice Leatherhead in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” when producer-star Seth Rogen asked her to join the film. “It was ridiculous,” the “Physical” actor tells me. “Seth was like, ‘I want you to do just fully Aussie — just go for it!’
“I was like, ‘I’m going to do my best Eric Bana.’ This is an homage to Eric,” Byrne continues. “It was a group recording, and I’d never done that before for a voice job. Seth was there, and he had such high energy from beginning to end. There’s ‘Mayhem’ in the title, and it was like mayhem. Not in a bad way. It was fun mayhem.”
Byrne joked that her many collaborations with Rogen, which include the 2014 comedy “Neighbors” and Apple TV+’s “Platonic,” don’t have her husband, Bobby Cannavale, worried. “He’s our biggest cheerleader,” she says.

It’s difficult to recommend or describe My Friendly Neighborhood without using the phrase “and I’m not kidding.”
Mfn is a short, speedrunner-friendly first-person survival horror game. Right from the start, it’s got a solid atmosphere of dread that’s carried by its audio design, with a setting that effectively mixes the mundane and the bizarre.
It’s also a game about fighting homicidal children’s show mascots. Where another game might have zombies or ghosts, Mfn’s corridors are infested with knockoff Muppets.
It’s the Jim Henson version of George Romero’s The Crazies, and it works a lot better than it has any right to. I’ve been trying to figure out why, and I think it’s because its developers, John & Evan Szymanski and their team, chose to play the concept absolutely straight.
Mfn absolutely commits to its premise, right from the start. If...

Big summer tentpoles continue to struggle at the domestic box office, where a horror pic took down Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Insidious: The Red Door opened to an estimated $32.7 million to win the July 7-9 weekend, beating out Indy 5, which fell to No. 2 in its sophomore outing with an estimated $26.5 million.
The Red Door overperformed despite weak reviews, scoring the second-best domestic opening of the series behind 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2 ($40.3 million), not adjusted for inflation. Overseas, the movie also did frightfully well, grossing $31.4 million for a global bow of $64.1 million against a reported budget of just $16 million.
Heading into the weekend, prerelease tracking had suggested that the fifth and final Insidious installment, helmed by series star Patrick Wilson in his feature directorial debut, would earn $25 million or more. Screen Gems partnered with Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse on the horror pic, which reteams the original cast,...

Insidious: The Red Door scared up a hefty $15 million-plus at the Friday box office — including $5 million in Thursday previews — for a projected $30 million to $33 million opening in North America. The horror pic should now have no trouble scaring off Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and winning the weekend.
Elsewhere, Lionsgate’s R-rated raunchy comedy Joy Ride is stalling in its domestic debut, while the conservative-leaning movie Sound of Freedom continues to set off fireworks after opening on July Fourth.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is falling to No. 2 in its second outing in more bad news for the big-budget tentpole. The pic, from Lucasfilm and Disney, looks to fall 58 percent or more to $25 million to $28 million. That’s the biggest decline of the series.

In “Welcome to Chippendales,” Bartlett follows up his Emmy-winning “The White Lotus” role with his acclaimed portrayal of the late choreographer/director Nick De Noia. The eight-episode show was created by Robert Siegel (“Pam & Tommy”) and inspired by the book “Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders” by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca.
“It’s very seductive to play a character like Nick De Noia,” the actor explained in our webchat. “He’s a choreographer and he was very larger than life.” Bartlett revealed that “the joy of it” was “being able to take a character that might seem larger than life and make them relatable … that’s what...

Actor and comedian Dan Aykroyd has had a long and steady career ever since he first began doing improvisational comedy with the famed Second City troupe in both their Chicago and Toronto theaters.
Fame came to Aykoyd when he was hired for what seemed like a low expectations comedy/variety show NBC was beginning for late Saturday evenings. “Saturday Night Live” became a bit of a phenomenon launching all the original “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” (as the cast was called) into stardom. Aykroyd along with Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman and Garrett Morris suddenly found themselves among the most talked about television stars working in the business.
Aykroyd and Belushi became especially close friends during the series run and began working in films together such as “Neighbors,” “The Blues Brothers” and potentially “Ghostbusters,” but Belushi’s overdose at the age of 33 caused Bill Murray...

The Rolling Stones‘ “Start Me Up” is one of the classic songs from the 1980s. Despite this, an Olivia Newton-John song prevented “Start Me Up” from hitting No. 1. This was a travesty.
Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Physical’ overshadowed The Rolling Stones’ ‘Start Me Up’
“Start Me Up” became a huge hit for The Rolling Stones. The tune reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for a total of 24 weeks. None of the band’s other hits lasted as long on the chart.
Newton-John’s “Physical” was also a big hit at the same time. The track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a staggering 10 weeks. Newton-John had many big hits during her time in the limelight, and “Physical” was the biggest by a longshot. According to the 2013 book 50 Licks: Myths and Stories from Half a Century of The Rolling Stones, “Physical” prevented “Start Me Up” from reaching No.
