Ninja Theory’s 2017 video game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was well-received by the fans but the game’s excellent story, tense atmosphere, and intriguing puzzles weren’t the only elements that made the game special. Ninja Theory’s co-founder has explained in the past that the game was built on a very tight budget and a very small team.
Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Ninja Theory made a name for itself in the late 2000s and early 2010s with games like Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry. After DmC, Ninja Theory decided to diversify its portfolio of games and split into smaller teams. Things took a turn after the failure of their canceled game Razer, and the company decided to create an “independent Aaa” game, which later turned out to be Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Over the years, exclusives have defined the popularity of video game consoles. From Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation, every platform holder has assured that fans will get something special on their respective consoles to enjoy. Something that other consoles don’t have. Recently, Nintendo and Sony have pretty much won on that front. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Helldivers 2 are just ruling the sales charts. Xbox fans, on the other hand, are left wondering what to play.
They might have their answer; recently, Xbox boss Phil Spencer came up with an incredible piece of news. He suggests that a game that would give gamers a brief respite from not being able to play Helldivers 2 is now even closer to launch. That game is none other than Hellblade 2.
Hellblade 2 is on the way to distract Xbox gamers from Helldivers 2 woes!

Sakra, a big-budget martial arts fantasy directed and starring Donnie Yen, is heading for a North American theatrical and digital release.
Rights to the film were acquired by WellGo USA which is a major stateside purveyor of Chinese and other Asian titles.
The company has set dates in April for a theatrical outing, shortly followed by a release to digital platforms, according to an emailed conversation with its president and CEO Doris Pfardrescher. Other details of its release and marketing campaign have yet to be finalized.
The film, a mainland China-Hong co-venture, was released in theaters in several territories in Southeast Asia in late January in time for the Lunar New Year holiday peak season. In China, it did not join the New Year scramble for screens and instead was released straight to streaming.

Like the monster in your childhood closet, Fallout 3's horrors are just waiting for you to forget they exist...
As you get older, the idea of being scared - truly scared - by a piece of entertainment is one of those nostalgic recollections you mentally file alongside catching fireflies, playground adventures, and the way you blushed after your first kiss. Being scared by a movie, TV show, game, or book is a symptom of innocence. You might watch a horror film or read a scary novel and flinch when a cat jumps in from off-frame or feel a momentary sense of dread when the heroine opens that door you begged her not to open, but most people will never again experience that feeling of all-encompassing dread after they've witnessed their first truly terrifying piece of horror entertainment.
There is one exception to that tragic consequence of emotional evolution.

A new Planet Of The Apes video game based on Fox’s reboot series is in development and scheduled to be released this fall, according to an announcement on IGN. Called Planet Of The Apes: Last Frontier, it’s the first project from a new London-based game studio named Imaginati, and it’s being published by the new games division within The Imaginarium, the production house and performance capture studio founded by Andy Serkis, who of course stars as Caesar in the new Apes movies. According to IGN, Serkis, whose prolific performance-capture career includes games like Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey To The West, is executive producing Last Frontier, and all of the game’s performances are being recorded using The Imaginarium’s “world-class” facilities.

Last year, Disney abruptly cancelled its toys-to-life line, Disney Infinity, citing a lack of growth and rising development costs. What was doubly disappointing about the cancellation was that, behind the scenes, a small army of game designers, artists and sculptors were readying more missions and figures for a planned Disney Infinity 4.0, which would have included toys and missions based on, among other things, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok and the forthcoming Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Clocking in at number 22 on the studio’s slate of development diaries, Ninja Theory has pumped out our latest behind-the-scenes peek at Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
Whereas previous videos have drawn attention to both the fantasy environments and Senua, the Celtic warrior and protagonist at the heart of the developer’s mythic RPG, today’s new teaser cast light on Hellblade‘s combat system.
Initially, the team at Ninja Theory – best known for Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West – targeted a combat system that allowed the player to block and attack in four cardinal directions. That all changed in favor of a more fluid, dynamic set-up, allowing for free-flowing combat that gave users the ability to jump between one enemy and the next. Stunt actress Chloe Bruce, who worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, proved instrumental in this process, giving the team an astute reference point to...

Ninja Theory’s Celtic Adventure Title Rebranded Hellblade: Senusa’s Sacrifice, Watch The New Trailer
Ninja Theory, creative minds behind Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, are closing in on the release of their next title, and today brings word that it’s been rebranded as Hellblade: Senusa’s Sacrifice.
Adding that evocative subtitle was a conscious effort on the developer’s part to emphasis the physical, emotional and mental journey of Senusa, Celtic warrior and protagonist in Ninja Theory’s mythic RPG. In Hellblade, Nt’s haunted heroine will plot course for the Viking heartland, fending off her trauma and psychosis along the way.
Dominic Matthews, a member of the tight-knit product development team, took to PlayStation Blog to reveal that “it is important for [Nt] to portray the physical, emotional, and mental trials of her quest in both the character model and the representation of her reality. An example of this is the voices that Senua hears in the scene. These voices...

After cashing in on gaming’s interactive toy craze with a very strong debut, the Disney Infinity franchise stumbled with its heroic but plodding second effort. Now, with its third iteration, Avalanche Software and its partner studios have taken things to a Galaxy Far, Far Away, in order to regain their lost momentum. The end result is Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, a very solid game that is sure to get even better when it’s expanded with two more Star Wars-themed play sets.
Going all in with its Star Wars focus, Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition does a good job of filling the void that’s been created by a lack of good, Jedi-based video games. It may not be flawless, but it’s definitely a quality experience, and one that doesn’t skimp on content or replay value. While spending extra money is required in order to get the full experience,...

Existing as neither triple-a or indie, Ninja Theory’s upcoming Hellblade has enjoyed a somewhat unconventional marketing campaign. Rather than showcasing its new IP via ostentatious trailers and appearances at press events, the British studio has instead rolled out intimate vignettes that offer up further insight into the mythic and personal story.
Centering around Senua, the flame-haired protagonist glimpsed in the trailers, Hellblade is a Celtic action adventure game with a refreshing twist: our protagonist will spend a vast chunk of the title battling mental illness. Ninja Theory’s decision to push psychosis into the crux of the story even earned the backing of the Wellcome Trust, a UK charity specializing in the field.
In the latest installment in the video series, the studio’s Tameem Antoniades recounts the inspirations behind Ninja Theory’s latest outing, and how Senua’s adventure is one we can all relate to on some level.

Heavenly Sword is a dramatic tale of revenge that sees Nariko (Anna Torv), a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance against the invading King Bohan (Alfred Molina) and his army. Once considered the failure of a legendary prophesy, Nariko must wield a sword that was ultimately meant for another. This ancient Heavenly Sword, once belonging to a powerful deity, can never be wielded by a mortal without it slowly but inevitably killing them. For Nariko it is a race against time to avenge her clan before her life is irreparably overtaken by the omnipotent Heavenly Sword.

It's another Capcom remaster, but is the current gen release of DmC more than a lick of paint?
The gaming world has gone remaster crazy, it seems. With the new generation of consoles now just over a year old, we've had quite the collection of last-gen releases polished up and shoved onto our shiny new machines. GTA V, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, and more have been given the next gen re-release touch, and now Capcom is at it again with DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition.
The original release of DmC was a solid game, bringing the skills of Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) to the mix, and giving the license a reboot in the process. Gone was the white-haired protagonist, Dante, replaced with a more youthful, edgier incarnation. This move instantly angered long-time fans, but the game proved to be worthy of the Devil May Cry blood it carried in its code,...

Over the past number of weeks, Ninja Theory has gradually peeled back the layers of its upcoming action-adventure Hellblade, showcasing some of the concept art and inspirations that have helped the studio mould their vision for the game. It’s a trend that offers the end user unique access to the creativity lurking behind the pixels, and in this latest dev diary, Ninja Theory has detailed some of the environments all the while offering up a very early look at some gameplay.
Touting a story that orbits around Celtic mythology in some form, Hellblade will follow Senua, a troubled adventurer who sets forth on a daring mission through the Underworld. Having released such genre titles as Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and 2013’s Dmc, Ninja Theory has proved its credentials when working within the hack and slash template, not to mention that dark and foreboding aesthetic that the company nails so well.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve gradually learned more about Ninja Theory’s PlayStation exclusive title, Hellblade, as the studio unveiled concise development diaries detailing some of the artistic inspiration behind the company’s next outing. A few days ago, we got a detailed look at the in-game battle system — one that will be inherently hardcore, apparently — and now Nt has showcased its approach to designing the cover art of December’s issue of PlayStation official magazine.
Taking to the PlayStation Blog, here’s what Communications Manager Dominic Matthews had to say:

Ardent fans of the Devil May Cry franchise will know all to well that Ninja Theory know a thing or two about hyper-kinetic combat systems. After all, the England-based developer created battle mechanics that were as fluid as they were rewarding in its well-received reboot of Capcom’s demon-slaying series, and it’s a trait that the studio will hope to continue with Hellblade — an action-adventure title steeped in Celtic mythology.
Currently, Ninja Theory’s third-person game is still incubating in development, but that hasn’t prevented the studio from educating us about Hellblade, with the latest dev diary placing a particular emphasis on combat and controls.

Los Angeles, CA – An apocalypse is inevitable when Heavenly Sword slices and dices onto Blu-ray, DVD and Digital September 2 from Cinedigm (Nasdaq: Cidm). Based on Sony PlayStation’s bestselling video game of the same name, the action-packed CG animation boasts an all-star voice cast including Anna Torv (“Fringe”), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, Chocolate) and Thomas Jane (Hung, The Mist).
A dramatic tale of revenge, Heavenly Sword centers on Nariko (Torv), a trained warrior with flaring red hair, who gracefully possesses a titular, heavily sought after blade with incredible powers. As the sword’s guardian, she must face a megalomaniacal ruler King Bohan (Molina) and his unyielding army, who are determined to obtain the powerful sword for their own manipulation.
As one of “the most anticipated movies based on video games” (Gamepur), the Blu-ray and DVD are packed with bonus footage including behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and filmmakers. The film...

Remember that PS3 launch game with the red-headed woman, a big sword and Andy Serkis? It's getting a movie...
Trailer
Although it's a series that's hardly become a big thing, the fairly decent PS3 slash 'em up, Heavenly Sword, is getting a movie, though fans may be wishing for an actual game sequel. Oh well, never mind.
Set for release on DVD and Blu-ray on September 2, the movie will see the game's heroine, Nariko (not to be confused with Naruto) star in her own CG movie.
The story will be similar to the original game, seeing Nariko do battle against the game's antagonist, the evil King Bohan, who will stop at nothing to obtain the Heavenly Sword Nariko possesses. Alfred Molina, Anna Torv, and Thomas Jane lend their vocal talents to the project, with Torv reprising her role as Nariko (she voiced her in the 2007 game release). Oddly, although the...

Check out all the latest details and the first full look at the upcoming Heavenly Sword movie, based off the succesful game.
Rumors are starting to swirl that Heavenly Sword 2 could be in the mix at either Sony's own studios or Ninja Theory, but for now we will have to settle for something else. That something else is actually a feature length movie based on the first title of the game that will re-introduce us to the universe.
In fact here is a synopsis of the franchise: "A dramatic tale of revenge, Heavenly Sword centers on Nariko (Torv), a trained warrior with flaring red hair, who gracefully possesses a titular, heavily sought after blade with incredible powers. Hmm, an Aussie voicing a character named Noriko? I guess, uh, that’s possible. Anyways, “Fringe” star Anna Torv is doing a little animated work these days as the voice of the main character in director Gun Ho Jang’s animated movie “Heavenly Sword,” based on the Playstation videogame of the same name. I’ve actually played this game once. It was interesting, like the “God of War” games, except with a scantily clad leading lady. I don’t recall much from it, though, which probably says something. Anyways, check out the latest trailer for the upcoming animated “Heavenly Sword” movie. Added in an older trailer below for those of you who might have missed it the first time ’round. Two for the price of one, kiddos! Heavenly Sword is a dramatic tale of revenge that sees Nariko (Anna Torv), a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance...

A second trailer has been released for the CG animated feature film adaptation of the fantasy video game Heavenly Sword. The film has a talented voice cast that includes Anna Torv as Nariko, Alfred Molina as King Bohan, and Thomas Jane as Loki.
I'm not really familiar with the video game, but I've got to say that I'm not really that impressed with what I'm seeing. Maybe fans of the game will be more excited about this, but I don't think the animation is really that good. It looks worse than some of the cinematic cut sequences we see in video games these days. Maybe the story will be good though; we'll see.

Tri-coast Worldwide has released an action-busting new trailer, for Heavenly Sword, the hotly anticipated CGI movie and the first game-style animation to be translated onto the big screen, along with new images that together reveal Nariko in full battle-mode.
Based on the top-selling Sony Playstation video game, Heavenly Sword stars the voice of Anna Torv (Fringe) who returns as Nariko, the red-headed, weapon-wielding divine warrior in-waiting. She must ultimately defeat King Bohan (voiced by Alfred Molina) a tyrannical ruler who is determined to secure ownership of the heavenly sword.
Heavenly Sword: The Movie will be released theatrically in selected territories prior to Sony Playstation’s worldwide release of the film on their PS3 /PS4 platform later this year.

On January 28, PlayStation released a trailer for ‘Sly Cooper,’ the movie. Set to hit theaters in 2016 that rascally raccoon is setting out to defend his family tree. The story line is largely based on Sly’s adventures in Sly Cooper 4: Thieves in Time.
In the film, according to a post on PlayStation.Blog by producer Brad Foxhoven:
Sly learns that he comes from a long line of talented, international thieves, and is catapulted into a global adventure. Sly races to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding the Cooper clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk — an evil metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line.
The major differences between the latest game and the upcoming movie are a global adventure rather than a race through time, the sinister and soulless Clockwerk instead of the dastardly Cyrille Le Paradox, and the artistic style,...

This is the first trailer for the CG animated feature film version of Heavenly Sword, which is based on Sony PlayStation's fantasy video game franchise. The film features the voices of Anna Torv as Nariko, Alfred Molina as King Bohan, and Thomas Jane as Loki. I've never played the game that the movie is based on, but it looks like a video game cinematic cut sequence, only not as good as some of the others that I've seen. I'll admit that I'm not really impressed with the trailer, but maybe you'll like it.

Heavenly Sword's animated movie has been given a trailer.
The film sees Anna Torv return in the role of Nariko, while Alfred Molina replaces Andy Serkis as King Bohan.
The Heavenly Sword film will follow the overall story of the game, but will introduce a "chosen one" which you never see in the film.
"This creates a driving element through the second act of the film, and places even more pressure on Nariko when everything falls apart," producer David Wohl told IGN.
Produced by Blockade Entertainment, its work on the film helped them secure the upcoming Ratchet & Clank movie, which is set to debut in cinemas in 2015.
"Quite simply, the quality of the Heavenly Sword film impressed more than a few people," said producer Brad Foxhoven.

Now that Valentine’s Day has passed, this writer must ask: How many of you horror fans celebrated by watching My Bloody Valentine 3D, the wickedly fun 2009 remake of the 80s slasher classic?
Given the nature of that film’s ending, have you ever wondered why a sequel has never materialized? To ring in this V-Day right, Dread caught up with MBV3D co-writer Todd Farmer to discuss the sequel-that-never-was.
Dread Central: My Bloody Valentine 3D opened over four years ago in early 2009, reportedly made on a budget of $15 million dollars. It went on to gross over $50 million domestically and over $100 million worldwide. That success, coupled with the sequel-friendly nature of the film’s conclusion, leads me to ask – where’s the sequel?!
Todd Farmer: I wish I knew! Patrick and I had a wonderful take. We pitched it a couple of weeks before MBV3D came out and everyone was excited.
