The line "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" that Ginsberg quotes is from the poem 'Ozymandias' by Percy Bysshe Shelley. And as suggested by the character Stan Rizzo, he is missing the thrust of the meaning.
When working on a project involving a product named "Sno-Ball" Ginsberg suggests naming a pig that, but doesn't give a reason. In fact, Snowball is the name of a pig who is one of the main characters in George Orwell classic anti-Communist novel ANIMAL FARM.
This is the first time Megan Draper says Don's early trademark line, "What do you want me to say?"
The episode's title refers to the gothic soap opera for which Megan's friend is reading lines, and ultimately gets the part. Megan comments (while helping read lines), "I thought this is supposed to be scary."
This episode takes place in November 1966.
