“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is a more typical summer movie season-starter than last week’s disappointing “The Fall Guy” (Universal). It’s a franchise film and it’s from Disney (which usually starts things off with a Marvel film).
It’s expected to open to over $50 million this weekend and become the first to gross over $100 million domestic. Industry sources suggest that over the summer, at least eight other releases (extending to early September) will reach this mark. A week ago, that guess would gave been 10.
The same sources pegged “The Fall Guy” as likely to gross over $125 million in the U.S./Canada. This weekend will clarify its fate, but the current trajectory suggests around $80 million. That’s a disappointment for theaters as well as Universal, which spent around $140 million to make the film before marketing.
“Apes” is one of several titles now projected in the $125-$150 million range.

Netflix’s breakout hit Wednesday has started production on its second season and has added a dozen actors to its cast.

Filmmaker Tim Burton is known for his gothic aesthetics and choosing to tell stories of weird characters. The filmmaker has put his stamp on blockbusters such as Batman as well as more personal stories such as Big Fish. He will be returning to one of his most beloved franchises with the Michael Keaton starrer Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
One movie in his filmography that stands out from the rest is his 2001 revival of Planet of the Apes. The project served as a remake of the 1968 classic sci-fi film, and starred Mark Wahlberg, Helena Bonham Carter, and more. The film was not received well upon release and is often considered to be a subpar remake of the original. Actor Paul Giamatti, who played Limbo, spoke about his experience while shooting the film.

Jenna Ortega is heading into production on season 2 of the Addams Family-inspired Netflix series Wednesday and has a prominent role in the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but she’s no longer a part of two other franchises. After starring in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, she reportedly asked for a substantial pay raise to return for Scream 7, despite knowing that request wouldn’t go over well with the producers at Spyglass Media – and sure enough, Spyglass opted not to bring her back for Scream 7. Now the full trailer for the upcoming Netflix animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory – which serves as a follow-up to the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous – reveals that Ortega’s Camp Cretaceous character Brooklynn has been killed off! The domestic box office at $2 billion currently this year is dragging 21% behind the same January-April spread last year, and when Universal’s Fall Guy commences the hot moviegoing season this Friday with a hopeful $35M, expect summer to drag some more.
That’s because the lack of product due to the actors’ strike has made a backloaded May through Labor Day frame in what will be lucky —lucky— to hit $3 billion. That’s a $1 billion less than last summer’s $4.09 billion per Comscore and -27% off. More bad news about summer: It’s not going to catch up the year any more against 2023.
Essentially, expect less and hope for more. Remember, no one saw Barbenheimer and Sound of Freedom coming last summer and that trio collectively minted $1.15 billion. If anything, summer 2024 is more about getting moviegoers back into the habit of moviegoing than breaking any records.

Jenna Ortega's evolution from Disney princess to scream queen is about more than just a shift in the types of roles she plays. At some point during her transition from family-friendly TV to darker film roles, the actor has become a global star. Having gained widespread recognition for playing Wednesday Adams in Neftlix's "Wednesday," the now 21-year-old is set to star in the upcoming "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," where her character will fittingly represent a new generation of goth icons as the daughter of Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz. In other words, Ortega has come a long way since her Disney Channel days. However, she hasn't quite come far enough for some, at least in terms of age.
In January 2024, "Miller's Girl" debuted in theaters. Ortega starred alongside Martin Freeman in this $4 million dollar erotic thriller, which unfortunately made just $890,000 in theaters. Critics weren't too impressed with "Miller's Girl," either, making...

In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

Jenna Ortega rose to prominence following her titular role in Netflix’s Wednesday. Tim Burton’s show significantly changed the trajectory of Ortega’s career, as new opportunities started coming her way. Soon, the actress turned into the “scream queen” of Hollywood, as people began appreciating her soaked-in-blood, perfectionist roles.

Jenna Ortega Initially Refused to Star in Wednesday
Jenna Ortega has been prevailing in the entertainment industry for a long time. Starting as a child actor in Disney’s Stuck in the Middle, Ortega later appeared in small roles in iconic projects like Jane the Virgin and in Penn Badgley’s You.

DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot will now go on Sept. 27 instead of Sept. 20.
The move comes in the wake of Paramount’s animated Transformers One parking on Sept. 20 (instead of Sept. 13) as the studio needed to get a foothold on Imax auditoriums.

Though it’s been more than 35 years since Beetlejuice was released in cinemas, the time hasn’t managed to put the story to its end.
A sequel for Tim Burton’s comedy horror is making its way back to the screens this year, accompanied by already familiar faces from the original movie as well as by new characters portrayed by Hollywood’s biggest stars at the moment.
Despite the famous story’s life going on, the time still didn’t manage to save some other iconic characters — and, according to Beetlejuice’s actress, it’s the main reason why they didn’t get to appear in the upcoming sequel.
The news that keeps coming in regarding Beetlejuice 2’s casting and plot details clearly suggest that the sequel won’t feature the characters whose appearance actually marked the very beginning of the story.

It's not easy to get people to agree about stuff, but I think we can all agree that Steve Buscemi is one of the greats. Buscemi has been kicking around for years, appearing in big movies, small movies, TV shows, and more. He's a wonderful character actor who always heightens whatever material he happens to be attached to. Even if his part is small, you come away remembering what he did. Hell, he shows up as a waiter dressed like Buddy Holly in "Pulp Fiction" for about less than one minute and still steals that moment. He's that good. Whenever Steve Buscemi appears on screen, we all do the Leo point and proclaim, "Hey, 'it's Steve Buscemi!"
And now, he's joining the cast of "Wednesday" season 2. The "Addams Family"-adjacent show stars Jenna Ortega as everyone's favorite miserable young woman, Wednesday Addams. The series, which had episodes helmed by none other than Tim Burton,...

American filmmaking was irrevocably changed by Francis Ford Coppola, one of the most important auteurs to emerge from the New Hollywood movement. His creative approach to filmmaking, which he pioneered with iconic films like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, had a profound impact on movie buffs. Not every flick that he added to his coveted filmography, though, was given the same level of recognition.
Coppola’s 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a classic work that had a profound influence on the horror genre, is a prime example of this. Although the set and costume designs in the film have received praise from critics as well as fans, there were many strange behind-the-scenes stories about the production, one of which was Coppola’s mistreatment of Winona Ryder.

Jenna Ortega has aced in every genre and role she has been cast in to date, especially in the horror-thriller genre. If anything, she has become incredibly popular for her excellent acting chops in this respective genre, so much so that she is now best renowned for her performances in the same. That being said, she has influenced a lot of people with this talent of hers as well.
Jenna Ortega in the Scream saga.
One of the people so deeply impressed by her was none other than Michael Keaton, with whom Ortega was working on the sequel to 1998’s masterpiece comedy-horror, Beetlejuice. In fact, the extent to which Keaton was impressed by her brilliance in the horror genre was so high that he even credited her for making his life easy while working together on the upcoming Beetlejuice 2!

Las Vegas – Warner Bros. made some very smart decisions for its 2024 CinemaCon presentation. First off, controversial Warner Bros Discovery chairman David Zaslav was nowhere to be found (let alone mentioned). This was about the movies first and nothing more. Second, they brought stars. Sure, Lady Gaga couldn’t make it (perhaps she had a migraine), but Robert Pattinson? Anya Taylor-Joy? Chris Hemsworth? Michael Keaton? Kevin Costner? That works.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), is set to reach theatres on September 6th. The ghost with the most is back, baby, ready to wreak havoc on the Deetz family more than three decades after he first haunted their home. In Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice returns to the big screen along with Catherine O'Hara's Delia Deetz and Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz. They will be joined by "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia's daughter, bringing three generations of gorgeous goth Deetz women to do battle against the supernatural huckster Beetlejuice. We've already seen a short teaser trailer for the film, which briefly shows the Deetz women at a funeral (possibly for the family patriarch, Charles, played by Jeffrey Jones, who fell out the limelight after a shocking arrest). There doesn't seem to be any sign of the Maitlands, the ghosts who haunted the attic in the original "Beetlejuice," but we'll just have to wait and see what...

Michael Keaton was blunt about what audiences can expect when “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits screens, more than 36 years after the first film opened.
“It’s really fucking good,” the actor told theater owners at CinemaCon. And based on the zany look at “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” that Keaton and Tim Burton shared, the collaborators have come up with something that could be out of this Netherworld. Burton, Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara, who co-starred in the original, took the stage at Caesars Palace on Tuesday for Warner Bros.’ presentation to theater owners to hype the sequel’s undead delights.
“I was very nervous to see if we could pull this off again,” Keaton admitted. “But every day just got better.”

The Clown Prince of Crime and Harley Quinn want you to know that what the world needs now is… love.
That’s the message of the first trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which sees Joaquin Phoenix reprise his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck (who later becomes Batman’s notorious foe) and conspire with Lady Gaga as the equally twisted Harley Quinn.
The dark and gritty footage begins at the famed Arkham Asylum — where Joker is locked up at the end of the first film — as Arthur Fleck has a deranged “meet cute” with another inmate. After the chance encounter in the halls of prison, they fall madly, deeply in love and plan to break out of their straight jackets to take on the world beyond their padded cells. It brings them to the streets of Gotham City, where they manically dance and twirl around the city.

Allow Robert Pattinson to introduce himself again… and again and again.
He plays more than a dozen versions of the same character, Mickey Barnes, in director Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming sci-fi thriller “Mickey 17.”
Bong, the Oscar-winning director of “Parasite,” brought a wacky, thrilling first look at the film to CinemaCon, the annual exhibition trade show that’s currently unfolding in Las Vegas. Through an interpreter, the Korean director described “Mickey 17” as a “story about a simple man who ultimately ends up saving the world. It’s a strange type of hero’s journey.”
It’s based on Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey 7,” but Bong opted to ever-so-slightly change the name of the film to “Mickey 17.” The number reflects how many times the main character dies, so Bong teased, “I killed him 10 more times!”

Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice himself, showed up at Warner Bros’ CinemaCon presentation for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Keaton, who already has seen the movie twice, said: “Truthfully, I don’t think it’s a secret anymore, but [Tim Burton] and I over the years kicked the notion around. Three or five years passed, we’d say, ‘What do you think?’ Finally we got it right. But also the script — it’s very difficult thing to write. Frankly, I followed his lead. I’ll tell you this, though, it’s really f*cking good. In fact, it’s great.”
Burton on why he made the movie: “I started thinking about it in the sense [that] I identified with the Lydia character being the weird teenage character. [I thought,] ‘What happened with the Deetz family?’ It’s three generations of Deetz women. I used the experience of as you get older. I just got really interested in that.

Beetlejuice might never have seen the light of day if producer Larry Wilson had listened to some executives at Universal Studios. The film was written keeping ghost stories and horror tropes in mind. Michael McDowell created the characters of Beetlejuice in a bid to twist the common convention of a good family finding itself haunted by evil ghosts.

Beetlejuice was an important film for Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, essentially propelling them into the mainstream. However, it seems executives at Universal were not that keen on making the film, questioning why an up-and-coming exec like Wilson would even look into something like Beetlejuice.
A “prominent executive” did not want Larry Wilson to go ahead with the script

The film, after Larry Wilson had a chance to go through the script, ended up at the desk of Universal Pictures.
