Baby Soka
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic27 October 2022
Here we get an opening episode of a series filling in gsps in the prequel era of Star Wars.

This is a pleasant backstory for Ahsoka showing her home, her birth and the discovery of her force sensitivity.

There is some interest in seeing this origin story and the world Ahsoka is from.

The Clone Wars style animation, music and characters are decent.

The story of the ritual hunting expedition is a bit weird and the big cat creature is not the best creation.

It is an ok little story. Nothing special in terms of plot or concept but an adequate origin story for a great character.

This begins a very interesting and dark series which is a great addition to Star Wars.

My Rating: 7/10.

A terrible start to an otherwise great series!
alexbigaliy26 October 2022
Starting off positively, 'Life and Death' gave us some stunning visuals of the natural world in the Star Wars universe, which added to some of the other good world-building elements. I thought the score was nothing out of the ordinary, but fit this episode well.

Personally, I found the animation in this particular episode a bit odd at times, especially when the yellow beast was introduced. Although the style bugged me, it was not bad enough to turn me off, however I thought the episode was boring and incredibly simple. This story was very predictable, added absolutely nothing to, and was unnecessary for the Star Wars universe. The writing for this to be good was just way too lazy... I cannot even see Ahsoka stans going crazy for this one.

Fortunately, 'Life and Death' is the odd one out, since five of the other episodes in this series were great...in their true 'Clone Wars' fashion.

We get babies are cute.
cwwesthoff0131 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I honestly didn't really see the point of this story. It would've worked if it wasn't for the blatantly obvious fact that this is suppose to be part of Ahsokas story. However she pretty much is reserved to being a Grogu clone (sound effects and all) which are really noticeable especially since those same baby sound effects are used in shows from 20 years ago.

I felt that without expanding on it, it just feels like they needed to fill time to have an excuse to make this show and figured that a cute Ahsoka would suffice for a rather short and generic story. Even for Star Aars standards these creatures are lackluster and uncreative. All of it just feels unnecessary and would've been better if they had Ahsoka actually impact the story and make her for connections believable. The wise old woman (which is a trope as old as time) just declared she's a Jedi all because she can become likened by a Tiger? Which that whole scene of her getting taken in the first place was so obvious it was funny. "There's always a bigger fish" was in my head from the second they dragged out her mom going out to see her kill. Not only that but the whole town just going out after hearing three shots in a row was so laughable.

While the other shorts I have actually started to love, this one feels like a boring and nostalgia fueled way to start an otherwise great series.

An enjoyable origin story.

Warning: Spoilers
This first tale of the Jedi follows the origin of Ahsoka Tano. I was very hyped for this series and this first part was very enjoyable. Ashoka as a baby was cute and it was interesting to see the culture she grew up in and her learning to use the force and interact with the world. The other characters all fit their parts and the action scenes were fun to watch, with good tension. Also the animation continues to improve and looks stunning. The story was a bit basic and didn't elevate the character too much. It reminded of the first episode of What If?, in that it introduces you to the concept of these stories, Overall, intresting and fun, but not anything groundbreaking. Score: 6.5/10.

Baby Ahsoka is adorable!
poseyfan26 October 2022
A solid start to the much anticipated show Tales of the Jedi.

It was interesting seeing the Togrutas and their home planet. The animation is in point, and baby Ahsoka is adorable! You can tell they used the same sounds for her as they did Grogu. We have only seen small Ahsoka at one point in The Clone Wars, and this gives more context into her connection with the force. We also get to see her mother and father and (presumably) the grandmother; who has a way of sending things as they are.

I wouldn't say it was anything fantastic, but I enjoyed it! Good atmosphere, good writing, good start to the show.

Not my Gorgu

But that's okay!

I'm pretty excited about this show. A six-episode series of short stories is something I'm surprised hasn't been done yet (I haven't seen Visions yet but I'm assuming that's the same formula). This one wasn't bad, it just wasn't all that stellar.

As much as I love the animated Star Wars content (which is a lot), not every episode is great. Star Wars is no stranger to unoriginal plots either, which this one is. Still, I wa s happy to finally see something else regarding Ahsoka's race and home. It's a place I wouldn't mind revisiting either.

The whole hunting thing was alright. Nothing we haven't seen before in other movies and shows. That animation was pretty tight and I'm not sure I agree with the complaints as of yet. I do wish this had been longer though.

An okay first episode to get fans back on a Star Wars kick, I suppose.

A solid first episode to an amazing series...
Culperrr27 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We're back! Back to this timeline, animation, and direction/creation of content by Dave Filoni.

Episode one was a bit slower-paced for my taste, but the themes were very Star Wars: Family, Life, and Death. The scene that stuck out to me was the hunting scene. It felt very Native American based, in regards to how the hunt was handled and used as an opportunity to teach Ashoka about death. All things die and as Pav-ti (Ahsoka's mother) says, "You must face death, Ahsoka. Do not fear it". It flows beautifully into what a Jedi is. As Yoda said, "The fear of loss is a path to the dark side. Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those who transform into the Force".

The only thing I wish we had in this episode (and the series) was Plo-Koon taking Ahsoka to the temple. Overall, a great start to this series.

8.5/10, but 8/10 for the IMBD rating system.

Cute but slow
jacobayala-1363028 January 2023
This episode was just fine. The animation is beautiful and its nice to have an episode documenting the very beginning of Ahsoka's life, it gives a more 'well-rounded' feel to the character. However, the story is very small and simple, and it's telling that in the longest episode of the series the least happens. If the story had a bit more complexity and given the viewer a greater reason for its existence in the series, I would have rated it higher. I will say that the atmosphere is well-established, that being it feeling similar to Samuri films, and I liked the idea of presenting a small-scale story in such a large universe, which this episode did adequately. It get's better though!

good start

Warning: Spoilers
Hunting a mother with a baby is not logical at all because apparently the baby is very young. It would have been better if Ahsuka was older Slaughtering an animal in front of a baby child is not interesting, although there is no common opinion about this in the cultures and customs of civilizations.

I think The final sequence of the episode was the best part of the story and a good ending.

The music and graphics was very good, but the relationship between Ahsuka and the panther reminded me of the last part of the book of Boba Fett grogu vs monster and finally Baby Ahsuka's voice sounded like Baby Yoda.

A Slow, but Pleasant Start
kobenpfau9 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This series has an interesting episode premiere with giving a origin to Ahsoka Tano. It is fun to see the culture Ahsoka grew from. Ahsoka is featured as a baby and her mother is taking her to go hunting (not that Ahsoka is going to be able to contribute). Ahsoka's mother is teaching her interesting themes of life and death. The themes of knowing when to take life or not and Ahsoka surviving play well into her future arc. This is an interesting short that doesn't contribute too much story wise, but it is still visually beautifully and has some interesting themes. The ending is interesting with Ahsoka's parents' concern over her future as a Jedi with the power and responsibility that is in her future.

7 Baby Ahsokas out of 10 Baby Grogus.

Not slow, just short and sweet
syndux5 February 2023
Needed to write this as a response to too many negative reviewers. Sure, if you're only looking for lots of action in your Star Wars stories, this one might feel slow. However, I personally don't think we should have to limit this universe to only one type of story and this one is not inherently bad because it's different. There is a reason this episode is only 15 minutes long, and it really fits in that format.

It's a short and sweet story about some of Ahsoka's origin that complements her story in other shows. We also get to see some of the customs and traditions of her people, at least the ones in this village, that mirror a lot of cultures we see/have seen in our world. It's a nice and calm beginning to ease us into this new show before we move on to more action filled episodes.

Disappointingly generic and bland
sevskirita27 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure how much can be done in a 15 minute short, but I don't feel this one was well executed or an interesting story. The only particularly decent thing is the animation, which wasn't ground-breaking or anything.

Otherwise, the concept is boring in of itself. It's not unique, it's a pretty old trope. The execution doesn't make it add anything. The little dialogue there is is generic and actually a tad stiff (like Pavvti's monologue about life), and the action and choreography is incredibly simplistic.

Hopefully the other shorts are better, because this is actually one I was looking forward to. Maybe they simply weren't allowed enough runtime by Disney, but the execution of what time they were given leads me to believe this isn't a story that they cared to tell anyways.

It's not a good sign when even the animation, a part of the studio that seemed to be less severely affected by Lucasfilm's overall focus on fan service, is also beginning to ride on the goodwill from Lucas-era stories and the nostalgia and attachment people have for those characters. Previously it seemed that the corporate side of Disney Lucasfilm saw less value in the animation, leading to less oversight that in life action tended to make marketable rather than careful story choices. Perhaps I was mistaken, and this is a problem even when Star Wars writers aren't subjected to oversight. Either way, a worrying trend.

4/10.

Ahsoka's Unrequested Origin Story
FriendlyRobot4 November 2022
This opening episode was notable by managing to make Ahsoka dull. It was bland and by-the-numbers, totally unnecessary and telling a story no one needed. There was also something odd about the animation-that I hope will not be present throughout the series-a high level of detail, but with unrealistic movement of the characters. They move around as if animated by someone learning the software. The creatures as well are uninspired and lack the slightest degree of invention.

I've heard that the rest of the series is worth watching, so will persist, but would love to be able to erase this damp squib of an opening episode.

Well, that was underwhelming.
Gernot S.31 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was just plain stupid. The mother knew the world she lived in, therefore she knew that there were beasts out there. Not only did she go hunting ALONE, but with her one year old daughter.

"It's custom" is just not enough to make us oversee that immense level of stupidity, dear writers.

Beside that, it was pretty boring. I didn't care about the mother (reasons: see above), and we all knew the child would survive.

A pretty weak opener for a "Star Wars" series.

I watched the other episodes too, because, well, still a Star Wars fan (I grew up with the original trilogy), and it got better. Way better.

If that episode would have been episode three or four, it might have been "that filler episode".

Opening with it: just as stupid as the mother's decision to go hunting alone with a toddler.

Not great!!
Marynewcomb201327 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This wasn't a great episode!! For starters, Ashokas parents have an India accent while the rest of the village has different accents!! Then her mother takes her hunting while daddy stays home? That's not how Star Wars creatures ever worked!! Taking her on a hunt then mommy was not able to protect her was not really smart!! Then having the "tiger" take Ashoka so a one year old can use mind control on it? That's not even great writing for Jedi!! This was lame writing!! One more thing, they never said Jedi for younglings, EVER!! What would be said is, they are strong with the force!! Again, Disney shows they have no one who has a clue about Star Wars!!

Baby sound fx
TielsOnSpotify23 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My GOD that baby sound fx that they use in every animation movie is so annoying, Dave Filoni personally attacked me at the end when they put in the sound effect AGAIN right when the credits rolled, assholes, boring episode too. If they were going to show us Ahsoka's backstory then show us something interesting this is like that thing in that awful Secrets of Dumbledore movie where a beast of some sorts can define if someone is pure of heart of in this case a Jedi, but to be fair in that dumbledore movie they didn't even finish the fx, that deer thing was glitching through hands 💀 lmao this ep had ok visuals tho.
