El Chicano will be released theatrically on March 22, 2019, and sources said the target is 600-800 screens.

There’s still something fishy going on in Bristol Cove, and we’ll get some answers when Freeform’s mermaid drama Siren returns for Season 2. The Disney-owned cable net said during the show’s New York Comic Con panel that Season 2 will surface on Thursday, January 24.
Check out a teaser above, fittingly set to Grandson’s “Blood // Water,” and a first-look photo below.
More mermaids will arrive in the once-sleepy fishing town in Season 2 — but are they seeking revenge, or is something more catastrophic driving them out of the sea? Marine researchers Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) continue to establish a bond with mermaid Ryn (Eline Powell), not only to protect her but to try to help save her entire civilization. Having decided to jettison reality series “Big Brother,” Britain’s Channel 5 is pushing deeper into the U.K. drama business, with a slate of new scripted titles including a prison drama, a crime thriller and a murder mystery. The free-to-air network has traditionally concentrated on unscripted and entertainment, complemented by a lineup of acquired drama, much of it hailing from from the U.S.
Channel 5 has now made its biggest move into scripted under the ownership of Viacom, which bought the free-to-air broadcaster in 2014. It includes a three-year deal with production and distribution group Kew Media, which will sell several of the new shows internationally.
The drama slate is headed by “Clink,” a female prison drama aimed at the sought-after young adult audience. It will play on Channel 5’s 5Star channel. British indie La Productions is making the 10-parter, which will bow in 2019.

Viacom's Channel 5 in Britain recently decided to not bring back long-running reality hit series Big Brother, instead moving some of the freed-up money into scripted content, particularly dramas, some of which are original fare.
The network on Wednesday unveiled an acceleration of its push into scripted offerings, announcing it has ordered a female prison drama with the working title Clink and crime thriller 15 Days. It also acquired the U.K. rights to six-part Irish psychological crime thriller Blood.

Acorn TV and Viacom’s Channel 5 have come on board psychological crime thriller Blood starring Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar.
The Svod service has taken U.S. rights and the British linear broadcaster has picked up UK rights to the six-part series, which was originally commissioned by Ireland’s Virgin Media Television. The deal was struck with All3Media International.
The drama follows Cat Hogan, played by Unforgotten’s Carolina Main, an isolated woman on the run from her past, a past she is forced to confront when the sudden ‘accidental’ death of her mother, Mary, played by 7 Days in Entebbe’s Ingrid Craigie, draws her back to the family she has spent the last ten years trying to avoid. Her suspicions start to mount against her father, played by Dunbar, when she begins to notice discrepancies in his stories

Shindler will join from October 1 and will report to Studiocanal CEO Didier Lupfer. Maxime Saada, CEO of the Canal Plus Group and Studiocanal Chairman, just announced the hire to staff in London.

The highly-decorated Shindler will continue to oversee Red, where she has produced BAFTA-winning TV dramas including Happy Valley and Last Tango In Halifax. Her most recent feature was 2012 crime-drama Blood with Paul Bettany and Mark Strong.

On 2016’s excellent Still Brazy, Compton’s foremost gangsta rap revivalist dug deep into American sociopolitics from the stance of someone who’s experienced its ills firsthand. (See “Fdt,” a rallying cry the full meaning of which you can surely guess). For his third record, Yg’s mentioned that he wanted to ease off on the political explicitness, but within the first couple bars of opener “10 Times,” he’s already fired shots at the D.A., the president and the police. You can take the politics out of the gangsta rap—wait,...

Yg, the Los Angeles rapper who’s released two acclaimed albums of political invective, street narratives and lowrider-sproinging DJ Mustard beats returns this week with his third album, Stay Dangerous. Though he caused a sensation in 2016 with the Molotov-tossing “Fdt (“Fuck Donald Trump”),” Yg is thinking more locally than globally on Dangerous, making rap records that talk about L.A. gang life and the reality of violence. However, the club-ready beats and rhymes of “Big Bank” was universal enough to crack the pop Top 40. Rolling Stone caught up with the...

Damn, Kendrick! Rapper Kendrick Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize in music for his revolutionary album, Damn. This is first time in 102 years that a non-classical or jazz work has won the award—it's also certainly the first time a hip-hop artist has received the prestigious accolade. On Monday, the Pulitzer board announced the historic news, calling the album a "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life." The 30-year-old's fourth studio album, which was released in April 2017, features 14 tracks, including "Humble." "Blood." and...

It’d be nice to know just why someone has gone so dark as to be obsessed with Stan Lee’s blood. For some reason and somehow Stan Lee was the unwitting donor of several vials of blood that were then mixed into an ink solution and then used to stamp several comic books that were due to be sold lauding his contribution. Take a moment to let that sink in. They were going to sell Comic Books Stamped With Ink Made Out Of His Blood. That is beyond creepy and more than a little morbid. Chances are that if he did

You bet your blankety-blank bleep that Wednesday’s all-new episode of “The X-Files” was written and directed by fan-favorite Darin Morgan. In honor of the occasion, it’s the perfect time to look back at all of the auteur’s episodes through the years. Morgan’s quirky style is one of a kind on the show, and he was even rewarded with an Emmy in 1996 for writing the Season 3 classic “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose.” Despite his renowned reputation among fans, Morgan has only written six episodes of “The X-Files,” just a drop in the bucket when you consider there’s been more than 200 (and counting). Click through our photo gallery above to see all of Morgan’s “The X-Files” episodes, or read the descriptions below.

In tonight's new episode of ABC's Marvel series, an hour that will finally shed some light on what poor Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) has been up to since the rest of the team was sent some 70 years into the future without him, former series regular Nick Blood makes his triumphant return as the burned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Lance Hunter. Blood hasn't been seen on the series since season three, when he and co-star Adrianne Palicki were written out of the show and into a spinoff of their own that failed to land a series order from the network. Modern horror fiction that is both original and classically satisfying is difficult to find. So many stories have been brought to paper already, it’s hard to find a plot that has not yet been explored. Many authors must set about exploring these stories from unique, often amusingly clever, angles, but in doing so the story loses its classic power to scare. Literature has not quite exhausted its power, though—not even close. There are authors who can do both at once, some even while leaving a tear in your eye. Stephen Graham Jones is one of these authors.

She won’t be receiving any awards attention for her role as an unidentified corpse in “The Autopsy of Jane Doe,” but Olwen Catherine Kelly’s performance — in which she lies naked and motionless on a metal slab for 99 minutes — is a profoundly morbid testament to the notion that less is more. At first seeming more like a marvelously effective prop than she does an actual character, Kelly’s frigid corpse soon thaws into a gruesome display of the Kuleshov effect, her blank stare growing a touch more evil every time “Trollhunter” director André Øvredal cuts back to it.
The dark heart of a horror movie that begins as an atmospheric mystery before flatlining into something much schlockier, Kelly doesn’t have to move a muscle in order to command your full attention. No matter how far “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” slides off the rails, she lies there stiff as a board,...

Kiefer Sutherland has joined the remake of the 1990 film after some rescheduling allowed him to also fulfill his obligations to the ABC series “Designated Survivor.” Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemens are all appearing in the film as well. Deadline first broke the news of Sutherland’s casting.

As of right now, the actor is the only original star returning; Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Billy Baldwin and Oliver Platt aren’t currently involved. “Flatliners” starred the quintet as a group of medical students who, not unlike kids today playing the knockout game, purposefully stop their own hearts in order to trigger near-death experiences. As you might imagine, this doesn’t end up being the best idea.

As detailed in fairly recent, candid interviews, Paul Bettany has been frustrated these last few years: the enormously talented British actor got stuck in poor Screen Gems actioners like "Legion" and "Priest," or in supporting starry flops like "The Tourist" or "Transcendence," with only the occasional "Margin Call" or "Blood" to remind us why we liked him so much in the first place. But he's finding his mojo once again: he's got another Johnny Depp team-up on the way next year with "Mortdecai," and after four voice-only credits in the Marvel movie universe, will appear in person as The Vision in next summer's mega-blockbuster "Avengers: Age Of Ultron." But first, he's about to show a whole new side by making his directorial debut at the Toronto International Film Festival with "Shelter." Starring Bettany's partner Jennifer Connelly and the great Anthony Mackie, it's an intriguing...

How do you rank perfection? Duncan has a go, as he lists the top 25 Jason Statham films...
For regular Den Of Geek readers, it will come as little surprise to see this list come round. We've chosen our favourite Statham films before, but such is the productivity of the great man, it was decided that a mere top ten was no longer large enough to contain his ever growing body of work. Last time I mentioned updating this piece to the man himself back in 2012 due to his insane workload, he cracked up and responded, “My productivity is overwhelming! 'Have a fucking day off!'”
Since this list has now expanded to encompass 25 of his movies, it seemed only right to include multiple sequels, with his big trio of action franchises all spawning some thoroughly entertaining fare worthy of mention, though I’ve tried to exclude the personal bias that...

Question: Got any scoop for season 2 of Reign? —Nicole
Ausiello: “Any” might be an understatement, Nicole. French Court is going to be visited by four new faces in Season 2, including Princess Claude, the never-before-seen daughter of Catherine and Henry. The “very sexually advanced” young lady will get herself into plenty of mischief, perhaps even more than Narcisse, another (much older) new face who will serve as a sparring partner for her mother. Titan books recently released A Dance in Blood Velvet, the follow-up to Freda Warrington’s vampire novel, A Taste of Blood Wine, and we have the first chapter for Daily Dead readers to check out:
“For the love of her vampire suitor, Karl, Charlotte has forsaken her human life. Now her only contact with people is when she hunts them down to feed. The one light in the shadows is the passion that burns between her and Karl. A love that it seems will last for eternity – until Karl’s former lover, the beautiful Katerina, returns from her grave in the icy depths of the Weisskalt to reclaim her life… and Karl.”
Excerpt:
Chapter One: The Blood-crystal Ring
He knew only her first name: Charlotte.
When he’d first met her at the concert, she seemed an averagely pretty young woman; medium height, slim rather than fashionably thin, nothing extraordinary.

Writer-director Jonathan English got surprisingly lucky with the first Ironclad (2011) film, as it offered a thrilling/shocking blood thirst of video-gaming proportions, as well as an impressive cast, including Paul Giamatti, Brian Cox, Derek Jacobi, Charles Dance and the dashing James Purefoy. Still set in the harsh surroundings of 13th Century Britain, post the Great Siege of Rochester Castle, the second film, Ironclad 2: Battle For Blood, seems to have switched target audience, with a more youthful cast of mainly TV actors.

Box Office Most studios avoid opening family fare in February, but with The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. proved that a good family movie can open any time of the year. With super strong brand recognition — who hasn't tinkered with the little plastic blocks at some point? — and great reviews, The Lego Movie easily took the top spot at the box office this weekend, earning an estimated $69.1 million. It is the second all-time opener for the month, after The Passion of the Christ, and one of the highest opening original (non-sequel) animated movies of all time.
The Monuments Men debuted in 2nd place, with a $22.7 million opening weekend, the highest opening ever for a George Clooney-directed movie. Rounding out the top 5, Ride Along came in at #3, with $9.4 million, Frozen at #4 with $6.9 million and That Awkward Moment at #5 with $5.4 million. The Art Directors Guild and the Costume Designers Guild have become the latest groups to announce their nominees for 2013. They may not be considered as big or as important as the Producers Guild, the Directors Guild, or the Writers Guild, but they are still a pretty good prognosticator for who will eventually take home the Oscar in their respective categories.
The Art Directors split their categories up into Period, Fantasy, and Contemporary Films (along with various TV categories), but the main one of importance here is the Period, where we find the more fanciful, eye-catching designs. Here, we find what was mostly expected: American Hustle, The Great Gatsby, Inside Llewyn Davis, Saving Mr. Banks, and 12 Years a Slave. If I had to venture a guess, I’d say that The Great Gatsby has this one in the bag. There were those who didn’t enjoy the film (I actually found...

No horror in this one. Blood is a standard copstakingthelawintoownhands flick with a predictable Crime and Punishment climax. The suspense runs like a slow IV drip made all the more agonizing by the obvious nature of the outcome. Yet the fathers creeping senility makes for an interesting wildcard and the humanization of Jason through his grieving mother adds an unexpected flavor to an otherwise unremarkable plotline. Additionally the acting is first rate. Paul Bettany with the most demanding role delivers spectacularly.

Look, you can sigh in relief that Colton Cumbie‘s exit from the show last week spared us a season’s worth of his humiliating antics. Sure. But you also had to wonder if Colton was secretly the only exciting cast member, the only castaway willing to piss off acquaintances, start fights, and find the Zen in chaos. Well, get this: Since Colton left, everyone else on the show is suddenly meaner. Not kidding! It’s balanced out nicely. Almost poetically. It’s reality TV Zen, actually.

The sheer volume of films being made both in and out of Hollywood means that a small film filled with strong actors can pass completely under the radar amidst the rumble of huge blockbusters and prestige films that tend to attract all the attention. Consequently, small thrillers like Nick Murphy’s Blood pass by virtually unseen even though they have reliable talents like Mark Strong, Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham, and Brian Cox driving the taut, well-written drama. There are no chase scenes or explosions, just a quiet contemplative tale of guilt, justice, and family ties. Blood is a strong character piece you’ve almost assuredly overlooked.

It is incredibly welcome news to hear that Paul Bettany, one of my personal favourite actors of all time, is about to make his directorial debut with Shelter, and he has already begun assembling an impressive cast to make the project with.
Showbiz411 report that Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Mackie have signed on to lead the film, which is said to be a love story about two homeless people. And not only that, but Stephen Graham is part of the cast as well, with the production recently sending out a notice for a number of other parts.
Bettany is directing from his own script, and will also make his debut as a producer, producing alongside Robert Ogden Barnum (Margin Call, Lawless), with Cassian Elwes (Blue Valentine, Margin Call) serving as executive producer.
Connelly is Bettany’s real-life wife, and starred alongside him and Russell Crowe in Ron Howard’s Oscar-winning A Beautiful Mind,...

Paul Bettany, star of “Legion” and “Priest”, isn’t just a genre asskicker in cinema. Nope. He’s actually an honest to goodness really good actor. His latest is “Blood”, a gritty police drama that has no superpowers and no demons trying to devour your soul, but your soul might get devoured nevertheless. The film, directed by “The Awakening” director Nick Murphy, is now scheduled to land on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download this September 10th from Image Entertainment. Check out a trailer in case you missed it when we originally posted it a while back. Blood tells the story of the Fairburn brothers (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham), detectives who will do whatever it takes to catch the killer of a shocking murder in a small town, while trying to live-up to the reputation of their tough-as-nails ex-police chief father (Brian Cox). But when a suspect’s interrogation spins violently out of control,...

While looking through Tsvetomir Georgiev's gallery I happened to notice that he create some fabulous Green Lantern concept models for Abin Sur, Tomar-Re, Kilowog, Stel, Hal Jordan, and Hector Hammond. Below that, you can view his designs for one of the bronze Colchi Bulls, and the half-fish/half-horse creature, known as a Hippocampus. Green Lantern was directed by Martin Campbell, from a script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Michael J. Green, and Michael Goldenberg. The film starred: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, and Angela Bassett. Percy Jackson has had an unnervingly quiet school year. But then he discovers that the magical borders protecting Half Blood Hill are failing. Unless something is done, the camp will be attacked by demons and monsters. The only way to restore power to the camp's borders and to save their home is to find the mythical Golden Fleece.

Crime-related dramas usually do one of two things well. They’re either interested solely in the mystery itself, or they’re more focused on the characters and their journey into darkness. In rare cases, like David Fincher’s Zodiac or Bong Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder, a movie can nail both halves with equal skill and effect. Blood takes the second path, eschewing any real mystery or suspense to focus on two brothers, both in blood and in blue, whose investigation into a teenage girl’s murder leads to a crime of their own. They’re soon tasked with solving the very crime they committed, and as the pressure to close the case mounts the fragility of the two men’s lives begins to crack. Unfortunately they crack and crumble in the ways viewers will most likely expect. “When it stops hurting, get out.” Joe Fairburn (Paul Bettany) and his unfortunately named brother Chrissie (Stephen Graham) are...

The traditional cop movie is going to have some angst. That’s a standard for the genre. If people took movies as accurate depictions of the world, that would mean we have to assume every officer is walking around the police station in a melodramatic haze, dwelling on things of the past while having little to no hope for a better future. Nick Murphy’s Blood does nothing to subvert that mold, but rather, delves farther into it, giving a bleak look at the life of a police family, and the weight that their actions may place on their souls.
After the stabbing of a young girl, a lonely religious man, Jason, is brought in for questioning, and throughout the course of his semi-coherent ravings, police brothers Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) believe that he’s given enough to be implicated for the murder, and they celebrate their victory.

With a title as simple and to the point as Blood, you'd think that director Nick Murphy was going for a back-to-basics chiller-thriller, and you'd be half right. Blood begins as the sort of dark-rimmed, sleepy town procedural showcased by the trailer, but as the film, and the plot's twists and turns, ramp up to the explosive finale, the filmmaking begins to resemble a dyed-in-the-wool cop drama less and less. In the end, Blood complicates a promisingly streamlined premise without doing the necessary legwork to justify such density. The story is rich with everything you'd want from a dark, English cop drama: brothers Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham, respectively) are teamed up to investigate the horrific murder of a young girl, an occasion...

Blood wants to be a Greek tragedy about family loyalties, guilt, and the fall of a dynasty, but the characters never manage to connect with one another, separated by gulfs of melodramatic angst and the plot demands of a boringly unspooled police procedural. Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) are brothers who followed in the footsteps of their cop father, Lenny (Brian Cox), a heavy-handed tyrant now felled by cognitive dementia. Graham, Boardwalk Empire's Al Capone, animates Chrissie with sincerity and a palpable affection for his girlfriend, but Bettany and Cox are alienated from everyone else in the film by the psychological isolation of their characters. They're all fine actors, but so genetically dissimilar that a third brother played by a hors...

The history of the British police movie is not a glorious one. Perhaps it's because (for the most part) U.K. coppers aren't allowed to carry firearms, which somewhat reduces the capacity for squib-happy action sequences. Or maybe it's the lack of glamorous locations for said shootouts, which can hardly compete with Manhattan or L.A. But after Edgar Wright imported the cop movie to rural Britain with "Hot Fuzz," we've seen a string of more straight-faced takes on the genre from the U.K., including the Jason Statham vehicle "Blitz," '70s remake "The Sweeney," and this spring's "Welcome To The Punch." Of course, you could take a different approach, a more realistic and unglamorous one, where not a single bullet flies and no car chases another. And that's pretty much what "Blood" does. Executive-produced by Sam Mendes, adapted from a mid-'00s BBC series called "Conviction" by original...

Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Third Season
When Boardwalk Empire first arrived, with its huge budget, a starring role for Steve Buscemi and a pilot directed by Martin Scorsese (the show's producer), there was much fanfare. But the spotlight quickly shifted to other, faster-paced, shinier and less complex shows. Shame, as that means many have missed out on seeing this enjoyable show turn into one of the best things on TV, a claim that this incredible third season makes good on.
This time around, kingpin "Nucky" Thompson (Buscemi) stands to lose it all as his crime empire comes under heavy fire. So how do they make us feel sympathy for such a murderous crook? Simple: set him against someone far, far worse. Hence the arrival of mobster Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale...
