- A figure from Jenny's past makes contact, while Jimmy continues to pursue her. Chummy prepares for an important meeting, and everyone at Nonnatus House rallies round the building's cleaner, Peggy, whose brother is very ill.
- Peggy,the nurses' cleaner,tells them her brother Frank is ill. In fact he is dying of pancreatic cancer but refuses hospital admission as he and his sister were raised in a work-house and he has a fear of all institutions. Visiting their house Jenny is shocked to find that they share a bed but Sister Julienne does not condemn this,recognising the mutual love and dependency the couple share,even unto death. Chummy,having won over hecklers at her contraceptive demonstration, prepares to meet Peter Noakes' mother but they end up helping handyman Fred deliver his pig's litter. Jenny however turns down Jimmy's advances as she is still carrying a torch for a married man.—don @ minifie-1

He's dying however and Jenny is shocked to discover something about them. Chummy's romance with PC Peter Noakes is going strong and he wants her to meet his mother. She's worried about it all and is desperate to make a good impression. Sister Monica Joan's dementia seems to be getting worse. Someone from Jenny's past, Gerald, tries to make contact with her. Jimmy's new car means they can all go out to the countryside for a picnic but he doesn't quite understand why Jenny rejects his advances.—garykmcd
