- Peter's visit to the other side intensifies as the alternate Fringe division faces off against a formidable new foe in a harrowing race against time.
- The alternate Olivia and Lincoln arrest David Robert Jones and bring him to the Fringe Division headquarters. Peter uses his knowledge about the criminal to help to interrogate him. However David uses his accomplices to create havoc with a terrorist attack that kills everybody in a hospital. They let him go but with a tracking device, but David is warned by Broyles and uses a similar device in dollar bills to escape from his pursuers. Lincoln discloses to the alternate Olivia and Lincoln that it might have a mole within the Fringe Division. Peter and Astrid find that David is searching for a mineral. Capable to open holes between the two universes. Meanwhile Elizabeth decides to help Peter and has a surprising encounter.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Fringe Division, New York (the other side)
Broyles watches security footage of Fauxlivia and the two Lincolns to figure out where they put Lincoln from our side.
Broyles takes out a vial of something neon and fills a syringe. He's walking to the closet when Walternate intercepts him with Peter. Walternate orders Lincoln 1 released.
Walter tells Broyles about the shape-shifters. Broyles tells him that Fauxlivia and Linclone are following up on Agent Murphy's last phone call to a warehouse.
They walk in with guns drawn and find shape shifters in tanks. David Robert Jones (Jared Harris) tells them he has 47. They watch as the woman in the tank starts to struggle and her face melts. He explains he killed her to demonstrate that if he'll do that to someone he loves, they should think of what he'll do to someone he doesn't like. "Take me to your leader," he says.
Harvard University (Our side) Walter has just discovered molecular gastronomy. He has high hopes for the parmesan ice cream.
Olivia asks Astrid to run a blood sample through the national databases. She tells Astrid she helped Peter and Lincoln cross over, but they're not back yet, so she has to tell Broyles. (Presumably, the blood is from the Observer who appeared in front of her at the end of the previous episode, then disappeared.)
The Other Side
Fauxlivia and Lincoln bring Jones back to Fringe. They tell Broyles that Jones knew they were coming (Broyles is the one who told him).
Peter is ready to cross back over, but Lincoln One wants to stay and help interrogate Jones and get some answers. "I need to be a part of this investigation, I lost a partner!" Lincoln says. "I lost a universe!" Peter says.
Peter is arguing to stay out of it when he sees Jones get off the elevator.
Broyles interrogates Jones. Jones tells them his shape-shifting agent Brandon has a hard drive on his desk. He wants it brought to him in 12 minutes. Walternate sends Fauxlivia and Linclone.
Peter joins Walternate in interrogation and tells him Jones is a scientist with a background in bio-technology. He crossed over from the Other Side. Peter wants to talk to him. Walternate agrees.
Peter points to Jones scars and reminds him about the molecular disintegration that was caused when he transported out of a German prison. Jones claims he doesn't recognize Peter, but his pulse speeds as Peter talks to him. Peter reminds Jones that when he crossed over, he created a portal. Peter's the one who closed it on him and cut him in half.
Jones says they're out of time. A call comes through for Broyles from a woman who says she's a friend of Mr. Jones. She's a doctor. She sets a canister on a counter and walks out of a hospital. She locks everyone in as the hall starts filling with gas and people start screaming.
Federal Building, Boston (our side) Olivia visits Broyles, who already knows sent helped Peter and Lincoln over. Anti-Broyles told him. Broyles tells her about David Robert Jones, who broke out of a Frankfurt prison three years ago.
The Other Side The 16 people in the ER are all dead. Jones gave them 14 minutes to release him or threatened another worse attack. The hard drive had satellite footage. Linclone put an internal tracker in Jones's tea. They release Jones.
Midtown Manhattan Jones sits at an outdoor café. Broyles and Linclone and Faulivia and Lincoln 1 watch him as he gets up and takes something out of a nearby trashcan. It's a thermos and a wad of cash. He starts handing out cash and gets swarmed by people. Back at Fringe, Astrid and Peter watch as Jones' tracking signal starts multiplying. He put trackers on the money. They run in to look for him, but don't see him. Jones pauses to take a drink out of the thermos then throws the money in the air. His tracking signal disappears.
Jones gets in a waiting black town car and rides away. Anti-Broyles sees him and lets him go.
Walternate has dinner with his wife. He blames himself for letting Jones go. He's studied the machine's blueprints, but doesn't see how to help Peter. Elizabeth thinks she might be able to.
Astrid reports that Jones was looking for something underground with his satellites. Peter looks at the locations.
Lincoln suggests that Jones was able to get their tracker signal from someone on their team.
Peter thinks Jones is looking for a mineral, that William Bell used to make a tiny battery that Jones stole in Peter's timeline. He thinks Jones is going to try to weaponize it to blow a hole in the universe. They find the Mohonk Quarry in the Hudson River valley has the highest concentration.
Broyles, Fauxlivia, Linclone and a team of agents head there and see no sign of Jones.
Peter radios the team to warn them to guard the access road. They don't see it, even though it's on his map.
He's looking at the map from Brandon's hard drive. "We're in the wrong universe," Peter says.
Jump to Our side Nadine, the Asian female shapeshifter who kidnapped Dr. Truss in "Novation", turns on her machine in a field. A door opens to the other universe, and Robert David Jones comes through.
Harvard Walter brushes down Gene the cow in the lab. He gets a visitor. It's Elizabeth, his wife who committed suicide. She's Walternate's wife from the other side.
She says she's there for Peter, because Walter's refusing to help him. "The last time I saw you, you'd come to save a boy's life. Now I've come to do the same," she tells him.
Peter and Lincoln return from the Other Side. Broyles and Olivia are waiting to head to the quarry.
Elizabeth reminds Walter of the night 26 years ago when he came to her on the other side and took Peter away. Walter apologizes, saying Peter wasn't his to save.
He says he's been punished for his own hubris ever since. Elizabeth forgave him a long time ago. Even though they lost their Peters, theirs something of them in this version. He deserves to go back to the people he loves. Walter's afraid.
The Fringe team rolls up on Robert David Jones and his excavating shape-shifters. They open fire. The Fringe team returns fire, Peter hits Nadine.
Jones rolls out in a truck and Olivia follows. Peter warns her not to drive through the door to the other side behind Jones, because it will kill her if it closes on her. She drives faster and ignores him. The door opens, Jones goes through, followed by Olivia. Peter radios her. She's on the other side, minus the front of her SUV, but otherwise in tact.
The Other Side
Walternate addresses the Fringe teams from both sides, telling them he knew the new breed of shape shifter meant they had to combine their efforts. Fauxlivia mentions that Jones has 100 pounds of the universe-ripping mineral. Lincoln wonders how they're supposed to catch him because Jones is always a step ahead. He thinks Jones has all the cards.
Peter says they have one advantage. "You have me," he says. "Somewhere, we stopped him once before, and we can stop him again."
Olivia is excited to get working, but Peter needs some sleep first.
Late at night, there's an insistent knock at Peter's door. It's Walter.
His visit from Elizabeth reminded him how much he misses the people he lost, and he understands how much Peter must miss his home, too. Peter is touched to realize Walter is the man he thought he was.
Robert David Jones types a trans-universe message: "Phase One Complete. Where do we stand on Phase Two?" His computer types a response: "In due time, we're working on her. She'll be ready soon."
We see the gloved hands who responded. They belong to Nina Sharp.
