As we expected, director Joseph Kosinski's The Twilight Zone movie got a new screenwriter to take on the challenge of writing a new script. The movie is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, and they hired Aron Eli Coleite to develop it.
Coleite is best known for his TV writing work developing shows such as “The River,” “Heroes,” and “Crossing Jordan.” He also wrote an end-of-the-world spec script called The End, which is being directed Drew Barrymore for Warner Bros.
The Twilight Zone is one of my most favorite things in the world, so I really hope they can pull off an amazing movie. Like I said before, Kosinski is a great visual director, but he has story and script issues. Hopefully Coleite will deliver an awesome script!

When Fox airs the 200th episode of Family Guy on Sunday, you will not only say, “My, how time has flown!” but also “Oh my god, time is flying backward!” In this landmark installment of the animated Fox comedy, titled “Yug Ylimaf,” Brian screws up Stewie’s time machine and reverses the direction of time. Lionsgate is adapting When First We Were Gods, a sci-fi film based on a Rick Yancey short story. The studio has already lined up music video and commercial director Daniel Askill to helm the project, and Aron Eli Coleite to adapt the story.
When First We Were Gods tells an interesting story about a time when humanity has achieved immortality. But eternal life is only available to the elite. The story then revolves around a man who conspires to murder his immortal wife so that his mortal (most likely poor) mistress can take her place and immortality.
Coleite’s credits include The End, which actress and director Drew Barrymore is set to helm for Warner Bros, and the TNT pilot Trooper, which stars Mira Sorvino. Askill previously directed a short film titled We Have To Decide Not To Die, which played at various festivals including SXSW. The film was well...

Variety reports that Christian Bale is in very early talks to take to star in Universal's adaptation of Boston Teran's 1910 Mexican revolution-set novel The Creed of Violence. Todd Field (Little Children) is set to direct and pen the script.
Bale would take on the role of Rawbone, a small-time assasin who must work together with a young Bureau of Investigation agent to infiltrate the Mexican criminal underground, encountering thieves, smugglers and professional killers.
It was reported last year that Leonardo DiCaprio was interested in starring in this project. Not sure if that's still a possibility, but if Bale and DiCaprio were on screen together that would be pretty epic.
Producers are aiming for to start shoooting on location in both the American Southwest and parts of Mexico in early 2013.

Drew Barrymore made her directorial debut back in 2009 with the quirky but enjoyable little indie comedy “Whip It.” Full to the brim with kick-ass females and high-octane roller derby action, it was an oddly enjoyable effort that felt fresh and original. Since then, Barrymore hasn’t seemed in a rush to line up her sophomore effort, instead making the short film “Our Deal” and popping up in front of the camera in “Going the Distance” and “Big Miracle.” Well it seems like she’s decided that now is the time to return to directing, and, erm, this one seems a little bit less fresh and original. The Hollywood Reporter have chosen to illustrate their article with a picture of Barrymore at the premiere of “Seeking a Friend For the End of the World,” and that seems rather apt, as she will direct Aron Eli Coleite’s script “The End” – an...

As if recent Steve Carell / Keira Knightly romantic comedy drama Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World wasn’t enough of a meditation on people facing a planet-ending disaster, Drew Barrymore wants a piece of the apocalypse action, signing on to direct The End for Warner Bros.Telly veteran Aron Eli Coleite wrote the script, which apparently tends towards an uplifting tone despite being about various characters dealing with the impending end of all life on Earth.Among the plots is a older London radio DJ ( think T-wog$, who is apparently “ready for dem”) who plans to stay at his mixing desk playing the hits until the big finish; a father attempting to plough through Tokyo’s chaos to find his wife and child, and an American couple trying to decide which of their families to visit before the end.Barrymore, who has at least two other projects on the go,...

Consider it the the perfect genre storm of conventions – an end-of-the-world film that uses multiple storylines to unfurl its narrative. It’s Valentine’s Day meets Armageddon (or New Year’s Eve meets Deep Impact, if you’re nasty). THR reports (via ComingSoon) that Drew Barrymore has signed on to direct The End, a film that “follows multiple story lines as people reconcile their fate on their last day on Earth.” Written by television writer and producer Aron Eli Coleite, the film will encompass a hearty number of characters, including “a sixtysomething radio personality in London intent on broadcasting until the end, a father trying to make it through the chaos in Tokyo to reach his wife and baby and a teenage couple in the American Midwest being pulled in different directions by their families.” The film is a drama, but is also described as “uplifting and humanistic,” with an intent to focus more on life versus...

Drew Barrymore has closed a deal to direct the end-of-the-world drama "The End" at Warner Bros. Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Rather than a look at the large scale, this film focuses on just several people and has an uplifting and humanistic tone as this group reconcile their fate on Earth's last day.
Characters include a steadfast veteran British radio personality, a Midwest teen couple, and a father in Tokyo trying to reach his family across the city. Aron Eli Coleite ("Heroes," "The River") penned the script.
Barrymore remains attached to direct and produce the young-adult thriller "Heist Society" at Warners and "How to Be Single" at New Line.

While Drew Barrymore earned a surprising amount of acclaim for her directorial debut, the roller derby dramedy Whip It, since its release she has largely stayed away from the director's chair. While she did direct a short film with Chloe Moretz, Shailene Woodley, Alia Shawkat, Miranda Cosgrove and Donald Glover in 2011 called Our Deal, she hasn't worked on helming a feature since 2009. In that time, she only starred in two movies as well, the romantic comedy Going The Distance and the whale-saving drama Big Miracle, but now she's finally ready to get behind the camera again. The actress-cum-director has been hired to helm the apocalyptic drama The End, according to THR. The trade says that the movie won't be your typical end-of-the-world story, in that it will be "humanistic rather than a downer, a meditation not on death but on life." The script, which was written by Aron Eli Coleite...

CBS has greenlighted to pilot Trooper, a character-based procedural drama from Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros. The project, written by Aron Eli Coleite (NBC’s Heroes), centers on a common-sense mother-turned-New York state trooper. Coleite, Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman are executive producing, with Bruckheimer TV’s KristieAnne Reed co-executive producing. It was a very active selling season for Bruckheimer TV with four significant commitments, including three put pilots for Trooper, a Navy SEALs drama at ABC and a 1980s wrestling show at NBC. The pickup for Trooper brings the company back in series contention after sitting last pilot season out with no production order for the first time in a decade. One on a veteran broadcaster in London, another on a 16-year old girl and her boyfriend in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the third focusing on a devoted family man in Shanghai.
All three storylines are reportedly interconnected by the fact that the players in each one are trying to reconcile the fact that the world is going to end, and attempt to make peace with their lives before an interstellar event ends the world in just six hours.

This year at the Austin Film Festival, studio executive and “Black List” founder Franklin Leonard introduced the opening film, Butter. It’s a fantastic satirical comedy written by Jason Micallef and Leonard’s post-screening Q&A with him was equally hilarious and unconventional.
Sitting in the upper deck at the Paramount Theatre, I was in awe at how Leonard had not only created the list just six years prior but how it provided such legitimacy to emerging screenwriters, like Micallef. He was relatively unknown in ‘08, but his script placed third on the list. Now he has a movie coming out starring Jennifer Garner, his new scripts have Jack Black and Jason Segel attached (separately), and he wrote a movie titled Good Vibrations about, um, marital aids starring Charlize Theron. That’s the power of the Black List.

As the New Year approaches, we are now getting a look at all the scripts that have been passed on, those unproduced screenplays of 2001, or what is better known as The Black List. This year, like every other year, is compiled from the suggestions of hundreds of film executives, each contributes the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Some of the best scripts have come from The Black List. Films like The Social Network went on to become the best of 2010. Other movie scripts have catapulted writers into stardom. Diablo Cody’s Juno, Nancy Oliver’s Lars And The Real Girl, Scott Neustader’s and Michael Weber’s 500 Days Of Summer, are just some of the screenplays which appeared on The Black List and then were made.

Franklin Leonard‘s Black List is the go-to list for the hottest unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Just last year we got Margin Call, which is now one of the most-praised films of the year. The list also includes Doug Liman‘s next film, the thriller All You Need is Kill. David Guggenheim‘s Safe House hits theaters next spring with Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington starring. Chan-wook Park‘s English-language debut Stoker was also in the top 10, along with Ben Affleck‘s recently wrapped CIA hostage film Argo, both arriving next fall.
Today, the top 10 has been unveiled and we get quite a mix of genres. There is a satirical behind-the-scenes film from Chewbacca aka Peter Mayhew‘s point-of-view, a zombie film, a homosexual WWII drama, a Melancholia-esque drama on separate people finding peace before the world ends, a space film about a botched Apollo 18 mission and much more...
