A PLANE, Yet Educational, Episode
paulmorganhimes9 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Despite this episode being a double-length, not too much excitement happens. But I have to forgive that because this show is about a little kid growing up, and with one of the things they teach kids being about going on an airplane, they do have to explain quite a bit about it. Passports, security, delays, where your plane is, where to put your cargo, etc., etc. And to add some flavor, Chip meets a new friend along the way.

So the episode nails the education with airports and airplanes, and I can't really complain about nothing too serious happening because if it went farther than it did, that would take away from the education that this story was going for. Like if Chip and Armando with their bags swapped went on different planes, that would be crucial, yes, but the episode wouldn't be focusing on the plane anymore because Chip would be too devastated for a good part of it. And if Potato was caught as a mouse on the plane, well, any way you fill in the blanks, that would really take away from what was being taught. No. This episode shows and tells lots about airports and airplanes from start to finish. We even get to see the cockpit!

One thing I don't like in this episode is the color usage. Between the beginning and when they get off the plane, which is at the very end, there is way too much white and blue shown the whole time. I wouldn't expect the airport to be rainbow-colored since it's not a place for kids to run around in, but it's not enjoyable to keep seeing the same two colors used for 20 minutes. Hospital Trip Chip used way more than this and that's not counting in the playroom, and even the wards were split up into different colors. And that gloomy weather does not help. I know that airports usually have bland designs like that, but it's still a toddler show. At least a little color variety wouldn't hurt.

And I have to bring up that Chip was able to sneak a mouse on the plane. The x-ray showed her skeleton, which was cool by the way, but the security didn't notice that? Additionally, in the real world, mice have a smell to them, so if Potato had that smell when the guard sniffed her, then the Pugs' plane trip likely would've ended before it began, and worse. Now that'd make quite a fake out plot, but with what it gave us is still otherwise good.
