Loot Chaser
This game is another under the radar gem, though it was a moderate hit at the time as there were ports of this game most notable the "Intelivison" and the "Gameboy" which wasn't so much a port but more a different version of the same game. But this is one of those games that sort of became forgotten as time went on. This is another game in the Maze Craze genre of video games, it's not quite a favorite of mine but I had fun with it.
The graphical presentation is good for what it is, it is a maze craze game after all you can't expect too many fancy things. The characters are all cartoon like characters who are I guess some stubby sized alien creatures. There is even a little music which plays whenever a treasure shows up which is the song, "Clementine" which sort of fits.
It's sort of your basic chase like with "Pac Man" but there are a few things that make it somewhat unique. For one thing the premise is the classic game of "Cops and Robbers", only in this game you play the robber which was unique for video games at the time, where for once you play the bad guy.
Two other things that make it unique are the levels have doors that constantly open and close, this really give the game a risk factor as you can not just run up against a wall at the worst time possible but also even get stuck between the closing doors temporarily slowing you down. Also the door mainly block off access to the treasures that appear like the loot bag, crown, and others, so there is the risk reward factor, a matter of if you fast enough to get to it before the opportunity gets lost.
Another thing is you have the ability to form barriers of your own. With this ability your able to block off, slow down, or redirect the coppers. However there are catches to this ability as you can only activate this, once you clear a turn off or intersection, you can only use two of these doors at a time, the barriers they last only temporarily, but also you could get trapped by them yourself. So, pick you spots and watch your timing carefully.
If you into the maze craze genre of video games, like any loot bag this is a vintage classic worth unloading.
