When it comes to the rap game, Eminem’s always hailed as the godfather, no question. And isn’t it just wild to think that the Mockingbird singer gave Drake a heads-up four years back before that legendary Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake showdown rocked the scene?
Given his own experiences in the hip-hop scene and the treatment he received, it seems the rapper has been watching out for Drake for quite some time now.

Sixty-two years after the release of the film “Days of Wine and Roses,” the Oscar-winning movie by writer J.P. Miller and director Blake Edwards, a musical adaptation has opened on Broadway with a score by Adam Guettel. The story of two characters brought together and torn asunder by alcohol stars Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James in the roles played in the movie by Lee Remick and Jack Lemmon. The production opened at Studio 54 on Jan. 28.
In addition to reuniting Guettel and O’Hara, who collaborated on “The Light in the Piazza,” the librettist Craig Lucas from that musical contributed the book for this new venture. The ensemble cast includes Tabitha Lawing and Byron Jennings in pivotal roles under the helm of director Michael Greif.
Theatre critics were largely positive about this new Guettel musical. It earns a Critic’s Pick from Laura Collins-Hughes (New York Times), who praises the “superb” performances,...

Pet Sematary has been sequelized, rebooted, and now with the arrival of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines it has a prequel. Adapting Stephen King’s works for the screen is a risky enough proposition, creating new stories based on them even more so as anyone whose seen a few Children of the Corn sequels or reboots can attest. King himself however seems to be happy with this film and tweeted:
“In the book, this is the story Jud Crandall tells Louis Creed to try and dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary,” wrote King. “The screenplay takes a few liberties, but it’s a fine story. David Duchovny is excellent. The secret, as always, is caring about the characters.”

Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" is about as quintessentially American as a classic book can get. The 1960 novel, which is still commonly read in schools today, follows young Alabaman girl Scout Finch as she endures the trials and tribulations of her pre-teen years -- and witnesses the grim realities of the Jim Crow-era South. Some aspects of "To Kill A Mockingbird" haven't aged perfectly, but the book remains beloved for good reason. It's funny, sharp, and emotional, full of wisdom and harsh truth, and builds a world that's vividly alive.
That world made the leap from the page to the big screen in 1962, when director Robert Mulligan and playwright Horton Foote adapted "To Kill A Mockingbird" as a film. The movie version is indelible in its own right. It's anchored by a precise performance from Gregory Peck, who plays compassionate defense attorney Atticus Finch. In the 60 years since...

Ed Sheeran surprised his concert audience with an appearance by Eminem on Saturday, July 15. The singer and rapper performed two songs together: “Lose Yourself” and “Stan.”
Ed Sheeran told his audience he was going to perform a cover of an Eminem song
Sheeran posted a video to his Instagram account of the moment he surprised his audience with Eminem. In a break between songs, he tells his fans that he’s going to perform an Eminem cover next. He starts off with the first verse of “Lose Yourself” when the camera pans to Eminem backstage getting ready to enter. The rapper takes over while Sheeran accompanies him on guitar and the crowd goes wild. Sheeran joins Eminem vocally again for the chorus.
“Detroit. What a moment,” the “Bad Habits” singer captioned the video on his Instagram.
By the looks of the comments Sheeran received under the post, it was a successful surprise.

What’s a Camelot without a little magic?
Aaron Sorkin works up an answer to that question in the new Lincoln Center Theater production of the 1960 Lerner & Loewe musical, and the result is an adaptation that seems at every turn to be pleading its case for its own relevance. Where the West Wing creator conjured a real sort of writerly sorcery in 2018 with his transformation of the beloved property To Kill A Mockingbird into a new, relevant and thrilling stage work, his efforts this time around often seem strained in their attempts to drag Camelot into the 21st Century.
In its way, Camelot, at least as we’ve come to know it until now, is, in its stodgy and fitful way, a musical as emblematic of the 1960s as the more obvious generation-defining theatrical statements of the era (“Gimme a head with hair!”). Camelot, with its “might for right” social...

It was an epic night for the Academy, with now-classic films and performances in competition, an anomaly between Best Picture and Best Director nominations, a young actress redefining the acting categories and the culmination of a decades-long feud. Let’s flashback to when first-time host Frank Sinatra guided the 35th Academy Awards ceremony on April 8, 1963.
In the years of the Best Picture category being limited to five films, the Best Director category typically fell in line with those productions, with maybe one variation. In 1963, only two directors from Best Picture nominees received bids; unsurprisingly, those two films also had the most nominations and the most wins. David Lean‘s sprawling epic biopic “Lawrence of Arabia” led the pack, coming into the night with ten bids and leaving with seven statues, including Best Picture and Lean’s second career win for Best Director. It has the unusual distinction of being the...

Aaron Sorkin’s hit stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” will not return to Broadway. The show, which closed in January amid Jeff Daniels’ departure from the cast and a severe Covid-19 surge, was always thought to be on a temporary hiatus. But a series of emails unearthed by the New York Times reveal the tension among Sorkin, director Bartlett Sher, and producer Scott Rudin, who still maintains the stage rights to the production even though he reportedly stepped away from an active role after misconduct allegations emerged against him. At the last minute, Rudin apparently pulled the plug on the entire production and scrapped plans to re-mount it at the Shubert Theatre this fall.
Sorkin and Sher wrote that “at the last moment, Scott reinserted himself as producer and for reasons which are, frankly, incomprehensible to us both, he stopped the play from reopening.”

To Kill A Mockingbird, Aaron Sorkin’s hit stage adaptation of the Harper Lee novel currently on a lengthy Covid-prompted hiatus, will not return to Broadway after all, and both Sorkin and director Bartlett Sher are blaming the original lead producer Scott Rudin.
According to emails obtained by The New York Times, Sorkin and Sher notified the cast and crew late yesterday about the show’s cancelation. “At the last moment, Scott reinserted himself as producer and for reasons which are, frankly, incomprehensible to us both, he stopped the play from reopening,” Sorkin and Sher wrote, according to The Times.
Rudin, of course, is the Broadway and Hollywood producer who ostensibly stepped away from all of his productions, including Mockingbird, following allegations of bullying and physical abuse of his staff.

Whitney Houston posthumously joins the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year in a delayed ceremony on HBO. Her family waited a long time for to finally be recognized by voters. There are still quite a few female artists that have also been patiently been waiting their turns. Vote in our new poll below about which female rocker deserves induction in 2021.
SEERock and Roll Hall of Fame 2020 inductees: Depeche Mode, Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, Notorious B.I.G., T-Rex
The previous year had both Janet Jackson and Stevie Nicks be inducted at the 2019 ceremony. Both ladies had been snubbed for years and finally got their due at this year’s ceremony. In fact, Nicks became the first woman to be inducted twice (along with her band Fleetwood Mac) even though many men have had multiple inductions.

The devil is in the details in “The Dark and the Wicked,” a horror film that teases out the evil presence descending on a grieving family on a Texas farm, with the same ambiguous, psychological heft of Henry James’ “The Turn of the Screw.” His evocation of a familiar, domestic world mysteriously sliding into chaos feels all the more blood-curdling because the protagonists’ distress and helplessness are emotionally relatable.
Following its selection by the Tribeca, Fantasia and Sitges festivals, the film will be released theatrically stateside in November, and stream on Shudder in the U.K. and other select territories. Bertino can count on the enthusiasm of a niche but loyal genre fanbase for whom he built a reputation with three distinctively styled horror-thrillers — “The Strangers,” “Mockingbird” and “The Monster” — which also enjoyed a degree of critical recognition.

Perhaps Universal’s most renowned contributions to cinema lie in their horror library. Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, if you can name it they probably made it. But until now, that awesome catalogue was unavailable to view in one place. Sounds like the grousing of a spoilt millennial, I know. The fact is that we’ve all become accustomed to having content at our fingertips. Praise be then that a streaming service has today launched to fulfil that demand. Peacock brings Universal’s esteemed horror collection to the masses.
Unlike its rivals, the service has both a paid-for package and a free one (though you’ll have to contend with adverts). Why not take a look at all the horror films currently available for free, though? Trick question, as there’s no reason why not to. That’s why all the horror films currently available for free are listed below.

Exclusive: Producer Scott Rudin is postponing the Feb. 6 Broadway opening of director Ivo van Hove’s much-anticipated West Side Story by two weeks after an onstage knee injury Friday left leading man Isaac Powell limping toward the end of the show.
“We’re postponing two weeks – from February 6 to February 20 – to give Isaac the chance to recover from an injury to his knee, so that he can have the same duration of preview playing period we’ve always had scheduled,” Rudin tells Deadline. “Luckily he is much braver than me and will be back and playing his full, remarkable show very shortly.”
The exact nature of the injury was not disclosed, but apparently occurred during the Friday Dec. 20 performance. Powell, who plays Tony – the male half of West Side Story‘s Romeo and Juliet tale – is expected to return for the Feb. 20 opening.
Powell’s stand-by Jordan Dobson will play the role until Powell returns.

A record-setting farewell performance of To Kill a Mockingbird‘s original Jeff Daniels-fronted cast, along with three rockers — Tina Turner, Alanis Morissette and David Byrne — brought in a combined $4,584,598 at the box office, a hefty slice of Broadway’s 34-production total gross of $31,122,601 for the week ending November 3.
That all-shows total is down about 8% from the previous week, at least in part due to some opening-night comps, and for Hamilton a couple lower-priced good-cause performances (more about that below).
First, though, Mockingbird. Already the highest-grossing American play in Broadway history — as you most likely know by now — the Aaron Sorkin adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel broke its own weekly gross record at the Shubert Theatre for the 10th time since opening last fall, pushing its total gross past the $100 million mark.

Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill A Mockingbird, one of Broadway’s major critical successes of recent seasons and the most commercially successful American play in Broadway history, will open a London production next spring, produced announced today.
Reprising his Broadway duty, Bartlett Sher will direct the staging at London’s Gielgud Theatre for May 2020. Cast and specific performance dates will be announced shortly.
The announcement was made today by producers Rudin, Barry Diller and Sonia Friedman Productions.
The London announcement comes a year to the week Mockingbird began previews at Broadway’s Shubert Theater, eventually opening to rapturous reviews the following month. The play, which takes an unconventional approach to the Harper Lee novel by casting adult actors in the children’s roles, has played to consistently full houses at the Shubert to become the most commercially successful American play in Broadway history. The production recouped its investment 19 weeks after its official Dec.

With Broadway’s fall wave of new productions mostly still finding their seats last week, several of the more established – recently established, but established – smashes kept doing what they do, selling out and breaking records. To Kill a Mockingbird, Moulin Rouge! and Hadestown raked it in, helping Broadway’s overall box office during the week ending Oct. 13 jumped 17% over the previous week.
In all, box office for Broadway’s 34 productions totaled $35,212,990, a fraction below June’s post-Tony season high, with last week’s attendance up 8% from the previous week to 282,646.
Contributing to the fall’s strongest week yet was To Kill A Mockingbird, the Aaron Sorkin adaption of Harper Lee’s novel, now 49 weeks into its run and posting a best-ever $2,244,415, breaking its own house record at the Shubert Theatre for the ninth time and, with total gross sales surpassing $100M, secure in its spot as the highest grossing American play in Broadway history.

Ruston Kelly pays tribute to some of his formative influences with the new project, Dirt Emo Vol. 1, which will be available October 11th. Originally a jangly, heartbroken anthem when it was released in 2002, “Screaming Infidelities” takes a turn toward gothic gloom in Kelly’s rendering. Stripped entirely of percussion, this new version is driven by piano and the...

Cher and Tina Turner are your top choices for induction into the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Those results from over 1,000 people worldwide are from our recent poll offering you 12 female artists that have been overlooked by voters in recent years. See the full results below.
Lady rockers have had a hard time getting inducted many years, but the 2019 ceremony had both Janet Jackson and Stevie Nicks finally getting in. In fact, Nicks became the first woman to be inducted twice (along with her band Fleetwood Mac) even though many men have had multiple inductions. If Turner gets the call for induction, it would be her second time as well after a selection with ex-husband Ike Turner in 1991.

Broadway’s theater owners say the Times Square panic and its spillover into some theaters last night was handled by those venues in accordance with security procedures developed by the Broadway community and the New York Police Department, but at least some shaken audience members of To Kill a Mockingbird took to social media to express discontent.

Exclusive Love, Simon star Nick Robinson will make his Broadway debut in the hit Aaron Sorkin adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, replacing the outgoing Will Pullen as Jem Finch in November, producer Scott Rudin announced.
And it won’t be the first time Robinson has played Scout’s brother, or even the first time he’s played the role in a production connected to its Broadway director Bartlett Sher.
Robinson, a Seattle native, made his stage debut in 2007 at age 12 in the role of Jem at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre, where Sher was artistic director. That version of Mockingbird was the Christopher Sergel adaptation that was more recently at the center of a legal tussle with the Rudin production.
Unlike the Sergel version, though, Sorkin’s adaptation features adult actors in the children’s roles, allowing Robinson to age into Sorkin’s Jem.

Exclusive: Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird has hit another Broadway milestone: The production, starring Jeff Daniels and directed by Bartlett Sher, has become the first American play to gross more than $2 million in a single week.
The new record was announced today by producer Scott Rudin. The record-setting number was made during Week 4 of the new theater season (the week ending June 23), with Mockingbird grossing $2,018,314 for the week.
The overall record holder for any play is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, playing at the larger Lyric Theater. Potter grossed $2,525,850 for the week ending Dec. 30, 2018.
Mockingbird‘s box office performance has been noticeable of late not only for that well-publicized lack of empty seats, but for its steady, even unrelenting increases – at this point, the production breaks its own previous week’s record on an almost expected basis.

“We approach it as if we’re originating the role,” reveals Jeff Daniels. The role in question is Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Daniels’ fresh approach to the iconic character netted the actor his third Tony nomination (following his two for “God of Carnage” in 2009 and “Blackbird” in 2016). Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“Mockingbird” is one of the most beloved stories in the American canon, and has already become an acclaimed film. Gregory Peck played Atticus in that 1962 Horton Foote treatment, and took home an Oscar for his efforts. In order to play the character to the fullest and not allow the legacy of Peck to get in the way, Daniels says “you tip your hat to him and all that he achieved with that success. And then you hit the delete button.” Instead of treating Peck’s performance as the definitive version,...

Jeff Daniels took a swipe at President Donald Trump and the Gop during an appearance on MSNBC on Monday.
Daniels spoke with Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC about his role as Atticus Finch in the Broadway production of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” a story about racial politics and discrimination in 1930s Alabama, and spent the segment comparing his play to the country’s current political climate. “Mockingbird” is nominated for nine Tony awards and holds the record for highest-grossing American play in Broadway history.
Daniels currently lives in Michigan, where he said part of the population is apathetic when it comes to voting, making him question where the active voters are and whether they share Finch’s view of inherent decency and compassion. He implied that “it’s the end of democracy” as we know it, if Trump is re-elected in 2020.
“You have to decide whether, like Atticus [Finch], you believe that there is compassion,...

He implied that “it’s the end of democracy” as we know it, if Trump is re-elected in 2020.
“You have to decide whether, like Atticus [Finch], you believe that there is compassion,...

Jeff Daniels went on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House in a pre-Tonys roundtable today and basically took the Republican Party to the woodshed. The star of Broadway’s To Kill a Mockingbird harkened back to a previous role — that of cable news anchor Will McAvoy from HBO’s The Newsroom, for which he won an Emmy — as he talked politics, race and the need for the country to dethrone Donald Trump.
Speaking with host Nicolle Wallace and her panel, Daniels first discussed playing the fictional but revered Atticus Finch in the Aaron Sorkin-penned Mockingbird every night. “You walk out there and we pin the ears back of, basically, white America,” he said. “White liberal America comes in, and they go, ‘We had no idea it was that tough.’ It’s a slap in the face; it’s a wake-up call.”
But Daniels was just getting warmed up. He...

Jeff Daniels is in it for the art, not the awards. That’s why he’s co-hosting two films on Turner Classic Movies this Sunday May 19 with Ben Mankiewicz: “To Kill a Mockingbird” (1962) and “The Trip to Bountiful” (1985) — both are films written by legendary scribe Horton Foote.
“Why did I want to pay tribute to Horton Foote?” Daniels said. “He’s a great writer. End of story.”
Daniels has earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a play in the role of Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel, currently running on Broadway. That Daniels wants to talk about Horton Foote and his screenplay for the 1962 “Mockingbird” film is striking, considering how much Sorkin’s take on the material departs from both the novel and the film. This Atticus Finch has feet of clay — or is at least a tad less godlike than Gregory Peck’s portrayal,...

Celia Keenan-Bolger was nominated for her first Tony Award in 2005 (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), her second in 2012 (Peter and the Starcatcher) her third in 2014 (The Glass Menagerie) and her fourth just weeks ago. As Scout Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Keenan-Bolger is the audience stand-in, the eyes and ears through which we observe crushing racism and some small reach for hope.
She’s not the first to take on the role, of course, and in this interview she describes how she felt the day in March when Mary Badham, who played Scout so indelibly in the 1962 film version starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, was in the audience at the Shubert Theatre. Also in this conversation, Keenan-Bolger recalls one of the most extraordinary moments of her stage career, tells us about learning to be “combative” when necessary, what...
