The film's title, "Maleficarum" is the Latin word meaning 'witchraft'.
While Amy Hesketh was an experienced actress and had appeared naked on-screen in earlier roles, this was her co-star Mila Joya's first paid acting job and she was very shy and nervous about appearing naked on-screen. According to Hesketh, even Mila's sister had never seen her naked until she attended the film's premier.
Amy Hesketh designed and constructed the whips and torture equipment, such as the rack and the Spanish horse, that were used in the film.
Director Jac Avila stated that he became frustrated with his supporting actresses who insisted on appeared on-set wearing make-up, false eyelashes, manicures and elaborate hair styles inappropriate for a film set in the 1700s.
When producers Jac Avila and Amy Hesketh attended a progressive rock concert in La Paz, Bolivia, they both thought the venue would be ideal as a set for one of their movies. During pre-production for Maleficarum several years later, when the producers learned the building was empty, they promptly rented the space and turned it into the set for the Inquisitor's torture chamber. After the film wrapped, the producers redressed the set and used the space for their next film, Le Marquis de la Croix (2012). The space later became a Chinese restaurant.
