Bessemer is remembered for coming up with the blast furnace that opened up the construction of all the steel stuff that is around us. We may not be aware of it, because so much of it is covered by the facades of skyscrapers, and the carpeting in our automobiles. Nonetheless, this documentary spends a few minutes singing his praises, before talking about Workington, where the steel mill under consideration is located.
And then we get to see the steel being made, and it is hard to believe how hot it is, and how tough it will become once it cools down, as the gigantic machinery pounds it thinner and thinner. It's all on its own scale, and offered to us like that.
