Meh.
StinkyPooBoy14 September 2022
My biggest gripe with the show over the past few seasons is that they almost always try to fit two storylines in a single episode and often have them tie in together at the end. That is very hard to do well in a 23 minute runtime. Both of the stories in this episode had potential (ESPECIALLY the 5 billion Mortys concept) but it felt rushed and barely developed since they kept cutting back to Summer.

Also, I don't know to put this into words very well but the spacing/timing of jokes and punchlines feels...off? Characters respond too quickly without letting a setup develop is the best way I could describe it.

Overall, this show is still entertaining but a fraction of what it was in seasons 1 and 2.

Has Summer become the best character in this show?
Np109013 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Before everyone hates on me for this opinion let me explain. Rick and Morty have seen a ton of character development over the years and while Rick has maintained his hilarious sarcastic personality it seems like Morty has become even whinier and more annoying. On the contrary it's Summer who has taken the best parts of Rick and used it to become a hilarious and enjoyable character. Her storyline in this episode is proof of her growth as more than just Morty's sister that occasionally joined in on an adventure. She is consistently having fun whacky adventures of her own and she easily has the most "Rick" in her compared to Beth and Morty. Gotta say she is having a better character arc than most of the others in this show. I loved the Die Hard concept being lived out by someone who has never "seen a Die Hard" but simply kept shouting out "Die Hard" while going badass on all the alien terrorists in the arcade. Call it controversial but I think she has become the best part of this show.

Die Hard 6
Trey_Trebuchet17 September 2022
Or should I say, the Die Hard 5 we deserved?

I'm not sure I understand any of the negative reviews for this one. I get that Season 5 wasn't perfect and maybe Season 4 wasn't either, but I don't think the quality in writing or character work has dropped substantially from the first few seasons if at all. I enjoyed this as much as any other Rick and Morty episode!

This was actually a pretty fascinating episode though. I thought Morty being trapped in a simulator was really interesting and executed really well. This felt like a S1 or S2 plot to me.

Summer doing a Die Hard was also really funny if you've seen that movie. All of the references to that first film and other action movies was insane. I'm sure I missed some myself. I immensely enjoyed Peter Dinklage.

All in all, another solid episode of one of the best animated programs airing today. It's deep enough and absolutely hilarious.

This should be much higher.

After watching this, I came here to give it an easy 10, expecting it to be another 9.0+ episode, or at least like 8.8, but I was so surprised to see it at an 8.1. The idea and concept of the 5 billion Morty's was so funny and interesting, and literally spanning a whole lifetime of Rick as Roy trying to save Morty and escape was so fun to watch. And while Summer's die hard was not as complex, it was still really entertaining and funny. Are you all seriously gonna tell me that this episode was worse than Vindicators? Because, by far it is better and I'd compare this in quality to the opener of this season, or season 5's opener, and its' a great standalone episode. I hope we got a lot of canon this season, but we need classic rick and morty episodes like this too.

Die Hard 2
ericstevenson13 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very fascinating episode, as it features Morty being divided into 5 billion people in a video game and Rick has to get them/him out. Meanwhile, Summer is told to pull a "Die Hard" without having seen it. Yeah, the description was not misleading. They seriously say "Die Hard" that many times. I was afraid the plot would mostly be about Summer. I'm glad it was really mostly about Rick and Morty.

I do in fact love "Die Hard" and consider it one of my favorite action movies. Maybe it would have worked better if the plot was more about Summer? I still thought this episode was amazing, with tons of jokes constantly coming at you. I was wondering why everyone sounded like Morty in the beginning. I mean, Justin Roiland doesn't really have that many distinct voices anyway. It's still an original concept that gives us the laughs and creativity. ****

Season 6 is looking good so far!
juicysyrup12 September 2022
A really cool sci-fi concept with good action and comedy! I loved the simulation concept and how it furthered the relationship between Rick and Morty. I don't know how they keep coming up with these concepts! I also loved the B plot with Summer and the Die Hard stuff was hilarious. The only thing holding this episode back is some of the jokes, some of them felt forced but that's okay because the jokes that were funny were REALLY funny and reminded me of old seasons of Rick and Morty. The pacing was good, the animation was great, and the dialogue between Rick and Morty was emotional and gave us a lot more insight on how Morty feels about Rick and the other way around. Overall this is just another good episode from the Rick and Morty team and I'm super excited to see where they take it from here. Good job to the team and I'm looking forward to where they take the season in the future!

What an episode
aboalhyjaa12 September 2022
This show is filled with references, especially this season. Without exaggerating i can say that from every 10 scenes there's at least 6 that reference other works and that amazing.

I kinda get why some people didn't seem to find this episode as enjoyable as the others, but it was decent. I didn't watch die hard and maybe that is why I liked it, some of you who did watch die hard

The concept of a collective as humankind and a global consciousness is really interesting. Which by the way It's not a religion :D.

I kinda have this crazy theory about evil morty and the game they were playing but i wont share here as this is a no spoilers review. But i guess anyone who saw the episode felt the same way as me.

PS: Falafel is a Palestinian food.

No spark
rchwql12 September 2022
The snappy, high-intensity dialogue of the first seasons is long gone, replaced by over-explaining everything and repeating the same joke over and over.

I do like the concept of the Roy subplot. It's creative and inventive, but execution is lacking. It gets too sentimental at times - it would be good if the writers weighed up the softer pieces with the more brutal humour that Rick and Morty is known for.

In the end, both the overall plot and the Roy subplot is painfully predictable and generic.

Some people wanted more Rick and Morty and they wanted it now. Unfortunately, the result is that the episodes are just not that special anymore.

In fact, they have been perfectly mediocre adult-cartoons.

Rick and Morty is finally back to normal.
azathothazoth14 September 2022
Back to its ol' recognizable self, I can't believe it. The torment of the past year is gone.

For most of the episodes up till now since Vat of Acid, the characters weren't like themselves at all for some reason, and the content of the episodes was too random, meaningless-seeming and disjointed, lacking intellectual content and emotional depth, not to mention not funny most of the time (even the first episode this season). I'm relieved it's finally back to how it was before with this episode, and I'm glad they seem to have payed no more attention to the fans and the internet now. I hope they continue doing that.

Thank you.

Hans across America.
southdavid13 September 2022
Like last week's episode, it's another Rick and Morty that I'm not sure I'd describe as being hilarious, but one running two plots, both of which have the seed of a good idea, but neither of which felt developed quite enough.

An off-world arcade is attacked by terrorists and the power disruption leaves Morty's (Justin Roiland) consciousness spread over the millions of non-playable characters in the game he was playing. Rick (Justin Roiland) goes in to convince these individuals of their true nature, but a divided Morty struggles to decide whether to believe him. Meanwhile Summer (Spencer Grammer) tries to foil the terrorists, led by an Alien Hans Gruber (Peter Dinklage) by doing a "Die Hard", except she hasn't seen the film.

The Rick and Morty story feels like it's ground we've covered before, with Morty struggling to decide whether Rick actually cares about him. There's a nice little moment in a late scene that suggests he does, more than he lets on. The "Die Hard" story has an excellent vocal performance from Dinklage, and some comedy from the rest of his group of Jar Jar-esque aliens. But it's central joke, about everyone acknowledging that their doing "Die Hard" is beaten to death pretty quickly, and lacking in an imaginative twist to elevate the premise

As I say, both these stories are decent enough ideas but neither felt quite fleshed out enough to me and neither of them produced enough laughs. I wouldn't go as far as to say that the edition was a failure, but it's a fairly underwhelming episode for a show that often aims, and hits, much higher.

One of the all time great episodes
tylermcginniskin19 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This ep is a 10. Firstly, we enter a world where Morty's mind is fractured into 5 billion pieces, and so we get 5 billion slight variations leaning into the character make-up that is Morty. Of course, ruled by 1 central figure, Rick. Morty having to convince himself life is better with Rick, despite the lack of emotional reward, to which an aged Rick finally succumbs. Even Morty as president and having the highest regard for himself, and then having an internal 'holy war' to battle this meta feeling within Morty...wow.

The plot line and story structure is genius, brilliant dialogue, the characters are comical and endearing, the relationship dynamic is something you hope for, ridiculous religious and die hard references are mockingly intertwined.

What's not to love about this clever and warm episode.

It was ok
CastPlate12 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was fine. Morty being split into 8 billion pieces inside the video-game Roy and Rick having to bring all of those people together into one location in order to combine them was hilarious. But the jokes fall flat and so does the pacing. They have 2 running gags throughout this episode: Summer and the alien saying "do a die hard," and Morty or Rick saying "it's not a religion," at least once every minute. These 2 jokes get very repetitive very fast to the point where it feels like a Family Guy bit. It truly does just boil down to Summer battling aliens and all of them trying to match it to the events of the movie. Rick and Morty get similar treatment, when Rick is trying to convince the Mortys' to combine themselves back into the 1 true Morty, but they all assume it's a new religion. Overall, episode is fine, interesting concept, but the jokes may annoy you like it did me.

Is this what rick and morty is now ?
abanob_michael_1997_201912 September 2022
One really good episode then one or two mediocre ones, this used to be a great plot centered show but now it's all over the place and you can feel that the writers are holding on to the really good stuff (Ricks and Morties rivalry and new revelations) because to be honest there is nothing much to be said anymore and this episode proves it, just another episode with another adventure that in my opinion doesn't add up anything new, I guess it was just too early for rick & morty to turn into family guy (rick & morty level of course not FG level of bad) but it wasn't an awful episode and not great either.

A fun episode.
projohnpro12 September 2022
Some people that have watched the previous few episodes may be disappointed with this episode, since it isn't that lore heavy and doesn't seem to be accomplishing anything, but when talking about this show you shouldn't expect continuity every episode, sometimes you just gotta appreciate the zany stories that this show has to offer.

Having said that this was a blast of an episode, it reminded me a bit of Mortyplicity by how disconnected it is from the main story, but that doesn't stop it from being an overall great ride. Very solid episode and season so far and hopefully that consistency will be maintained, can't wait for the next episode.

Good episode
zarehkasraa12 September 2022
Rick and Morty and Summers are in an adventure and Summers is trying to be die hard.

References to die hard were really awesome and the way Summers is shouting "DIE HARD" was fun. There is a lot of fun dialogues in the episode. The video game idea was also super cool. The problem is the show is trying to be as creative as before and they forgot that they should be as fun as before, i mean i really missed the old creativity, it was really smart and entertaining. But after all i hope this season will be as good as previous seasons and what ever happens i will always love the show.

Oh, and before i forget, you better watch die hard before this episode it will make it double fun.

R&M is back baby!
wdojo11 October 2022
No doubt the 5th installment of Rick & Morty was the worst. In my personal opinion, I feel R&M was missing a little bit of its magic in some of the season 3 episodes, when I seen season 4 I was I knew somthing was off, and I already expected season 5 to suck.

Don't get me wrong, I loved seasoned 3, but it just wasn't quite as good as seasons 1 & 2, however, that's not surprising considering rick & morty seasons 1 & 2 are my favorite seasons of any western anime ever.

Season 4, however, was quite disappointing, and season 5 made me think that R&M was dead forever.

I AM HAPPY TO REPORT, THAT RICK & MORTY S6 IS BACK, AND IT IS ORIGINAL, IT IS SCI-FI, IT IS COMEDY, IT IS THE CRAZY WACKY DOODLNESS THAT I HAVE BEEN CRAVING SINCE THE END OF S3.

A mort well lived is nothing short of 9, while other S6 episodes are a 10, as they compete hand and hand with some of the best R&M released back in 2013 & 2015.

A good sign...
chinbagdeluxe16 September 2022
Season 3 had a great episode selection, but was less than the sum of its parts. Season 4 was season 3 but every episode was around the same quality, and they seemed to have doubled down on Rick's invincibility. Season 5 was a 50/50 split of great episodes and ok ones. It also (for the most part) lacked too much emotion or stakes.

BUT, from these 2 episodes alone, both have put Rick in a position where he could lose something he cares about or his life, and shown him in a more emotional state, all with a nice, yet a little thin, layer of subtlety. What I'm getting at is that the show has listened to criticism and has used the best plot points and traits from season 4 and 5, mixed them with the storytelling and some concepts (the plot of this episode is very reminiscent of the car battery episode) of season 1 and 2, and sprinkled in some good humour that the show has kept.

This review may age poorly, or, and I really hope I'm right about this, the show may use the enormous order from Netflix as a blessing, to help it peak later on and find itself in this season. If you want a piece of criticism for this season so far, it is leaning a little too far into meta humour. The show has always been very meta, but this is a bit too much.

So yeah, I hope the show continues to rise in storytelling and development, and eventually season 6 just may just be the season that R&M is reborn.

Or the rest of the season is terrible, who knows.

It's Okay
vmqfqqw12 September 2022
Rick A Mort Well Lived is nothing that special in comparison to the episodes that came before it. I found it pretty boring throughout its run, especially the entire Die Hard subplot. It was sort of funny at first, but the joke gets old quick when you realize that's the entire subplot. The main plot with Roy was interesting at first, but didn't maintain its neat concept for long. I feel that there was a lot of story potential for a return to Roy, but it didn't work super well here. This episode was a large step down from last week's premiere and hopefully the next episode is better in terms of its premise and execution.

She hates DIE HARD, which makes her the ultimate McClane!
tranayboraj12 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Give me a sitcoms from any galaxy that has a Die Hard and inception parody, but sewn together as one, I'll wait. Had a glimpse of a parallel universe entire served by "Mortys unimind" but rather reflecting back on a previous canonical element, gave me shivers. For me, the half backed, non-conventional, cliffhangeresque pre credit ending was cherry on top. Marta definitely left room for a sequal, which would be Roy's third installment (hopefully we might witness Jerry with Mortys signature attire).

Waiting eagerly for Prime Rick v the OG one.

Nothing to brag but, I am a non American seventeen and yep right around the Christmas week did finish all the die hard installments (makes me insecure if I don't get a pop culture joke, for anyone wondering why would anyone watch the 5th Die Hard as well).

An Improvement on Recent Episodes but Still Feels Lacking
MogwaiMovieReviews13 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was an improvement on the first episode of the present season, and for the first time in awhile there were a couple of laugh-out-loud scenes (particularly the Jewish dad bit), but once again the Summer side-plot was very weak, and the whole 'Die Hard' premise/"homage"/ whatever was tired, misjudged and overdone. The references to other films no longer feel at all done out of love for those films, but rather convey the strong impression that a list is being ticked off of classic sci-fi/action movies that workers have been instructed to work their way through.

What was nice about the episode was its imaginative premise, of a videogame constructed from the fragmented mind of Morty, but, except for a couple of decent jokes, almost nothing of substance was done with it and it ended up feeling a very poor imitation of The Ricklantis Mix-Up.

It's hard to precisely know where to lay the blame for the dramatic drop in quality the past couple of seasons, except that it must obviously lay somewhere in the writing. I've not checked, but have heard other people online say most of the original staff writers are no longer with the show, and that new writers who aren't funny, aren't anywhere near clever enough, don't like the characters, or get what made the show work so perfectly before, have been drafted in instead.

Rick now seldom feels like Rick, and Morty seldom seems like Morty, and the whole thing feels made by committee, with clumsy plotting, chaotic pacing, and lots and lots of loose ends that don't add up to anything. Whereas in the old episodes, each story was full of loving detail that was self-contained and complete, and one could dwell upon the fictional worlds and lives they presented, and imagine all sorts of other developments taking place offscreen. There's none of that here, just a bunch of half-thought-out pop culture references, awkwardly and joylessly clashing together.

Like I say, this one really wasn't all that bad, and still better than most cartoon shows out there, but the magic is still gone and I now don't believe it's coming back.

Just like a classic R&M adventure.
sauca-4011012 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really like it, it was funny, the idea was good.

I didn't liked that ut was kinda slow, but it was just like a s2 episode, which is great.

I hope that this season is going to be great, let R&M be great again!!

But, I didn't got the "Die hard" part, I didn't watched the movies tho.

Now, Morty will trust Rick more?

Their relationship will be stronger now.

Buut, maybe not, the last part where Rick puts a battery for Marta to save her it was very nice, but I think that if she dies, the game will restart and Morty will be like he was before.

The start got me confused tho, I didn't liked the episode from the first time I watched it, but the second time got me, I really like this episode and I hope for many more episodes like this!

Overall, Good episode!

I'll say it - Too Much Summer
darrylmsmith13 September 2022
It started last season. I get that women and girls should be represented in strong roles. The latest episodes have just too much Summer being the super brave savior.

It seems that the writers are scared to portray her any other way for fear of backlash.

Where's is my quick witted sitting on the couch bored with the world teenager Summer. She had zingers when she was left of out of the adventures.

Also, as the show tries to be soooooo smart and takes itself sooooo seriously (as it tries to also convey it doesn't) it moves away from the crazy actually funny Rick & Morty that was the draw in the beginning.

Summer destroyed the episode
hamsterreyz12 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Rick and Morty story was good and very unique, it gave me season 2 vibes, but it doesn't make sense the part where president Morty said that he want to stay there because Rick doesn't care. Even though at the end of season 5 he obviously started caring and Morty wanted him back even if he didn't. So for me it's 9/10 and could be even 10/10 if there was more time to develop the plot but they had to put the "summer die hard" plot that looks more like a parody of "Rick and Morty die hard parody" than a real episode. They said die hard at list 50 time in 10 minutes and it seems rushed and boring.

Pathetic...
pavlomir13 September 2022
Yippee-Ki-Yay! Rick and Morty fans! Another episode wrapped around the popular culture with little to no originality. Okay there was the "Roy" element, but this was also boring. Sometimes this show is so flat and un-original, so I wonder how is keep going for so long. Everything rely on other movies, shows and popular persons (Elon Musk with Tusks). When the half of the show depends on how poorly you can parody someone else'es work that must speak how lazy the writers really are.

Long gone are the good work of originality and creativity, there is only toilet humor at best. Even Family Guy main theme isn't accurate for the show. What else you got? South Park? So altered that you can't recognize it.

Just don't always take the easy path with the show and do something good with Rick & Morty. Die a hero or live long to be remembered as the villain.

A Classic Rick and Morty Adventure!
hassambitw12 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
With episode 2, I feel pretty confident that this season might be a return to form after the lackluster, very weird season 5.

In "Rick: A Mort Well Lived", we get what made this show great: a silly parody of a pop culture classic in "Die Hard", a sophisticated high-concept in simulation theory where we get to see everything from cults, radical religion, and the resulting existential turmoil. The Die Hard stuff was pretty standard humor we've come to expect by now, so either you're with it or against it. I think it's a nice way to show how beloved that franchise is for some people, hence the overreliance on mentioning "Die Hard" in every other sentence.

However, the main part of this episode was the video game "Roy" storyline. That leans more towards the relationship between Rick and Morty here, where we see Morty's different fragments of himself as fully fledged people capable of voicing how they feel which I thought was an ingenious way of showing how complex a person's personality can be; Some of him is stupid and silly, some a pacifist, some compassionate, and some rebellious. The takeaway from all this being that in a way, within all of us, a tiniest fragment of the world exists of every kind of person.

In the ending, we see some Morty's choose to stay in the video game because it's better than the "hell" outside where all the 5 billion parts of him will be condensed into one single being. It's disheartening to see the primary disciple, Marta, aligning with Rick because she trusted him and then falling apart upon realizing he still struggles to say "I love you", which hilariously causes a holy war by all the Morty's. It's moments like this which are funny yet painfully accurate - because sometimes we do see holy wars over slights like this. In the end, we get to see Marta forgive him yet again but stay in the video game where she will presumably live the rest of her days as Rick made sure of. So, Rick does come out with a greater appreciation for Morty, but is the Morty that came out lacking from the Morty from before? How will this impact future adventures? Is the 8% that stayed behind/died significant? Only time will tell, but this one's a classic!
