The lurid title "Killing Diana" does not convey the true focus of the film, which is the life, as opposed to the death, of Lady Diana Spencer, or "Princess Di."

She was perceived as the "fairy tale" princess, which the documentary deflates as the image imposed on Diana. The reality was that her life with Charles was a living nightmare. From the outset, he was besotted with Camilla, whom the royals did not find a suitable match. Diana had to live with the constant presence of Camilla. As she explained in a famous interview, "there were three of us in the marriage; so, it was a little crowded."

The film's young commentators develop the thesis that Diana's courage eventually led to the abandonment of arranged marriages in the royal household. They also provide testimony to the substantial humanitarian contributions of Diana.

The film does not explore conspiracy theories about her death. The driver was intoxicated and entered the Paris tunnel at a speed in excess of 100 mph. The speed limit was 30. The filmmakers lay much of the blame on the predatory paparazzi.

Overall, the film is a fine biography of a charismatic and beloved figure whose equal the royal monarchy may never see again.
