So far of the three seen so far, the best Blye Migicovsky animation
TheLittleSongbird1 September 2012
The other two were Journey to the Center of the Earth, which was decent but also on the underwhelming side and The Count of Monte Cristo, which I disliked. I highly enjoyed The Toy Shop though, seeing it as part of my pre-school friend's "obscure animation" collection. The character designs could have done with more fluidity perhaps and there are moments where the dialogue comes across as corny. But much makes up for it. The backgrounds are vibrant and detailed enough, and the music is whimsical and memorable. The characters do at least engage, especially Katherine and the toys are a very colourful bunch. Master Jack is a good villain, though his type of character and motivations have been done before. The voice acting is spirited. The best asset though is the story, it has a lot of charm and heart and it never makes the mistake of being dull. All in all, I liked it very much, it's not perfect but it's good to know that Blye Migicovsky are capable of something good. 8/10 Bethany Cox
