Moving, wistful scenes of Sapphic longing
lor_4 January 2019
Each vignette here unfolds romantically, but with a reveal at the end that the sexual coupling we've witnessed is merely an unrealized wish by one of the protagonists. The fact that these encounters will never be realized lends a sense of melancholy to Nica Noelle's well-written opus.

It's not your typical lesbian porn content, and is perhaps a bit too thoughtful (and borderline downbeat) for a big audience, as Sweetheart Video dropped the series after Nica left the label she had created (and it is not carried on at any of the major competitors, either).

Saddest scene for me was the uniquely exotic Satine Phoenix hooking up with old woman Dia Zerva at a hotel restaurant where they're both staying, the ice-breaker being Satine's naive questions about the book dia is reading, Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment"

This shapes up as an attraction of opposites, but at the end of a romantic session in Dia's hotel room it turns out nothing happened at all, just two lonely souls briefly meeting and parting.

That's the formula throughout, including Sinn Sage being roughly dominated by butch redhead Lily Cade when she goes for an audition to act in Lily's upcoming movie. Instead, Sinn simply quits, passing up the possible role.

Same thing happens when Mia Presley visits teacher Nina Hartley's home to ask to withdraw from her class. Nina is perfectly cast in a mentor role, and it's bittersweet when after seducing Mia we find out that instead she just agrees to have her axed from the class roster, and goodbye.
