An off-screen narrator provides a "how to" guide to the uninitiated on surviving life in the nine-to-five office environment. The protagonist following his instructions is a young woman, an artist by night. What starts out as a general how to guide in which she follows quickly flips, where the narrator instead talks about the specifics of her maneuvering through her life, which not only includes the time from nine-to-five, but also the time from five-to-nine, where she has to fight with the want to do her art against other priorities, such as pleasing her self-absorbed live-in boyfriend, Trevor. So the how to guide becomes how she gets out of the seeming rut in which she is.
