Interim report, rebuilding Notre Dame after the fire.
TxMike15 December 2022
It has been almost 3 1/2 years, April 2019 when a fire during renovations destroyed the spire and much of the roof of the Notre Dame Cathedral that had been built starting in the 12th century. Almost immediately the French announced that it would be rebuilt, and it would be finished by the summer of 2024.

Why that date? The Summer Olympics will begin in Paris in 2024, starting in July and run through the first part of August, so they want it to be ready as part of that, fully operational and open to tourists.

Considering the size of Notre Dame and the extent of damage that is a very ambitious timeline. This documentary is a summary of where they are, how they arrived there, and what they need to do to complete the project. It seems all the experts and best craftspeople in France, and some other countries, have chipped in to help make it happen. Personally I was fascinated by the efforts to find just the right Oak trees to custom cut to make the beams that will be used to reconstruct the burned roof. One saw mill owner said he is proud to be part of the project and is donating time and expense for the project. I suspect many others in various areas are ding so too.

Good documentary, it clearly shows what all is being done to safely restore the old cathedral. I watched it at home, streaming on the PBS U-tube channel.
