A fitting tribute to a champion comedian.

The new season of The Kapil Sharma Show has been a mixed bag primarily due to some below par jokes and the absence of Krishna Abhishek, but this episode was a refreshing change from what it usually has on offer. Raju Srivastava may have been many things, but what he will always be remembered and treasured for is stand-up comedy, and I feel this episode was a beautiful gesture by Kapil Sharma to the champion comedian.

It felt great to see so many comedians from the Laughter Challenge era on this stage. With the emergence of so many new comedians and a new style of comedy in the last decade or so, the comedians from the 90's and early 2000 era have somewhat faded from our memory; so it was great to see so many familiar faces once again. They may not be as popular as their young contemporaries, but they know very well how to make you laugh. I was pleasantly surprised by Suresh Albela's straight faced humour; I haven't seen any video of his in ages, but this man is funny. For some reason he doesn't laugh, but he sure knows how to tickle your funny bone.

I have always been fond of Vijay Ishwarlal Pawar (VIP) since the Comedy Circus days, so it was amazing to see him perform once again. I seriously think Kapil Sharma should hire him for his show, because a comedian like him deserves a stage like this. Rajeev Nigam has been associated with comedy shows since the time of Movers and Shakers by Shekhar Suman, and he still is at the top of his game.

Jay Vijay Sachan is a new comedian, but I found his mimicry skills to be super impressive. People may look down upon mimicry artists, but it's not an easy thing to do, and this young man not only copied voices but also made me laugh. Jay Vijay Sachan's final act of imitating Shah Rukh Khan was absolutely outstanding; from the voice to the emotions, he was pitch perfect in that act.

One thing that I didn't like in this episode was that every comedian was rushing through with their set and were keeping it short, because of paucity of time. I wish they had been given more time to perform their acts. All of them are champion comedians, but there is only one Kapil Sharma; they don't always get a platform like this to perform, most certainly not twice every week. I feel like these kind of episodes should be held more often; the comedians get an opportunity to showcase their talent and we get to laugh and enjoy.
