Roger Ebert: 'Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter' is 90 minutes of teenagers being strangled, stabbed, impaled, chopped up and mutilated. That's ALL this movie is! It's just mindless, bloody violence. Just think of the message this film offers to its teenage audience: "The world is totally evil place," this movie says, 'It'll kill ya'. It doesn't matter what your dreams and hopes and ambitions are. It doesn't matter if you have a new girlfriend or a new boyfriend or if you've got plans for the future. You can forget those plans because you're gonna wind up dead." There is literally nothing else in this movie. And the sickest thing is, this isn't The Final Chapter, that's just a advertising gimmick. The ending clearly sets up a sequel and what I wanna know is, I wonder if they're gonna be heartless and cynical enough to make the sequel because WHY NOT? They've already taken the bucket to the cesspool four times already for this sludge. I think the people who made this movie ought to be ashamed of themselves and that's what I think, and I'm gonna vote 'no'.
Season 2, Episode 32
This week on At the Movies, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert take a look at SWING SHIFT, PRIVATES ON PARADE, FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER and CAN SHE BAKE A CHERRY PIE? For the most part this was another good adn entertaining episode but I must admit that my favorite moment was the one dealing with the latest F13 picture. As a horror fan, I'm very much aware that Siskel and Ebert hated them and just take a look at the anger and rage that comes from Ebert when he starts talking about this film. His entire outlook at the movie and what it says to the people wanting was rather funny and even Siskel had to reel him in a bit because he was going over-the-top. That was certainly the highlight of the episode and I must admit that it was rather funny as well.
