this show is WILD to say the least

Warning: Spoilers
Ill start by saying i came into this show knowing what to expect, because i found it in a youtube video about another youtube web series (dont hug me im scared). But i did NOT expect this show to get me screaming at the tv about the characters and what was happening. I was screaming like a middle aged dad watching the superbowl. Ill start with the first episode. It starts off pretty typical for a "jersey shore" type show. Then we get to this one character, frank. Frank is a man in his 40s whos married with three kids, a guy you wouldnt expect to be on this show right?? Frank is the character i hate most in the show, he took advantage of one of the drunk girls (erin, whos an 18 year old christian virgin) and got her impregnated. From then on erin is pretty much traumatized by what frank did to her, which unexpectedly hit close to home for me. Frank was partially the reason why i was screaming at the tv. Everything felt so real. Like i was watching just another reality tv show but gone very wrong. Frank is so manipulative its crazy, whoever casted the actors for this show needs a raise because the actors did an AMAZING job of bringing so many emotions out of me. In just 10 episode these characters went through so much in the sex house, the mold room, the cloudy drinks, the mist, TARA AND THE FROGS!! It broke my heart to see her get upset by the fact they had to eat the frogs in order to live, you could tell tara loved those frogs to death. Also little side note, i found it really funny how the host of the show is literally asexual, but the whole premise is the show is literally about sex. This show is so underrated, ive literally seen nobody talk about it. More people need to see this show.

Brilliant satire masquerading as farce

Warning: Spoilers
When "Sex House" begins, it seems like another run of the mill spoof of shows like "Big Brother," "Survivor," or "The Bachelor." Yet, as the show progresses it becomes clear it's anything but. Like most of The Onion's work, it begins as a slow burn satire and amps it up into the most extreme of situations, all the while maintaining an element of realism that fools the gullible into thinking it might be real - much like 'real' reality television. The acting, writing and set design are all pitch perfect - the cast seem like bad, one note reality TV show characters until they realize their show might not be all that it seems, and become multifaceted, interesting people. It's Lord of the Flies meets Big Brother by way of Lost; all with its own originality. For something so silly and enjoyable, it's satire cuts deep and is able to skewer not only pop culture, but the ways we consume and participate in it. Way ahead of it's time, "Sex House" is well worth your time. It's masterful satire.

A must-watch

Around 6-10 years ago, The Onion was making a wide variety of comedy material online and even for television (they had a show on, I believe, IFC). I did watch a great deal of this at the time, but still, I feel like I took it for granted now that the material has pretty much stopped (the only new Onion video material I see and enjoy are their film reviews).

Sex House was one of those shows - a 10-part web series looking at a group of people who...move into a house to have sex. You have the hot but dumb jock, the sweetheart, the raunchy "trysexual" lady, the virgin, the token middle-aged man, and another guy who manages to be the token black guy AND the token gay guy.

If you've watched any reality TV over the years, especially Big Brother, you're probably nodding your head as you look over the stereotypes.

It's easy to say oh, this is a parody of Big Brother, or the Real World (which one of the producers of Sex House actually worked on), or of reality TV, or of modern depraved culture.

Sex House probably IS a parody of those things and more, but it's also a wonderfully acted and written work. I don't even really want to go into too many details about it as to not spoil the experience for you. All I can say is try to catch the show while the videos are still up, as The Onion seems to be far past its best days.
