The film was financed by Wilson using three credit cards, a personal loan, and family donations.
The first day of principle photography was almost lost when the crew arrived 1 minute late to Melbourne airport and missed the only morning flight to Tasmania.
The film is dedicated in memory of Martin Koeppl who acted in the film. He died in late 2009.
The film was originally titled 'Uber Memoria the Movie' named after the original art films made in 2007 but was later changed to its release title because Wilson thought it was more direct to the overall story of the medieval paintings he was trying to recreate.
The film was shot by Shaun Wilson over six years from 2006 to 2012.
