Looking Back on Bangladesh

The Concert for Bangladesh: Recollections of August 1st, 1971 (2005)

*** (out of 4)

Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Jim Keltner, Bhaskar Menon, Jonathan Taplin, Leon Russell, Neil Aspinall and Ravi Shankar are among the people interviewed as their share their fondest memories from The Concert for Bangladesh. Fans of the film will probably enjoy this featurette the most from all the smaller ones on the Special Edition DVD release. This one here basically just has the people talking about their favorite moments from the event and a large number mention the Bob Dylan segment of the show. It's interesting because most fans of the album call out this moment and it's clear that the artists involved were also high on this. A good point is made that since Dylan was in a mini-retirement this really was the first chance for many people in the crowd to see him perform live. Ringo also talks about how he got involved in the concert and it's clear that everyone involved realized that they had done something quiet special. There's also talk about the word of mouth that got out after the first show and this here just made the demand for the second even higher.
