It's long-lived, groan-inducing tradition for actors to try and scoot way into the realm of music (often much to the chagrin of our collective eardrums), but lately there've been more and more cases of the opposite happening. Think Ludacris and the "Fast and Furious" franchise, Mariah Carey in "The Butler" or whatever the kids are calling it these days and, uh, Rihanna in the "Battleship." We could go on ... The point is, musicians are becoming movie people more and more whether we like or not.
