Destiny in Soft Focus (2012)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Another wonderful interview with the one and only Jess Franco, who passed away shortly after this here was shot. In the 13-minute interview the director talks about the making of FEMALE VAMPIRE but more importantly he discusses Lina Romay, the woman who was by his side up until her passing, which was shortly before this interview. Franco starts off talking about the locations that the film was shot and what exactly the vampire in the film is drinking. From here he gets into more details about how he met Lina and how he just knew that she was the woman for him. We also get to hear a couple stories about Soledad Miranda and Franco talks about how these two great women were given to him but taken away in such tragic ways. If you're a fan of the film or just enjoy these Franco interviews then this here is going to be a must-see because the director really opens up in regards to Lina. It's certainly incredibly touching hearing him talk about the woman he loved so shortly after her death.

Warning: Spoilers
Jess Franco talks about the making of his highly erotic and atmospheric horror opus "Female Vampire" as well as his beloved muse and leading lady Lina Romay in this neat little 14-minute featurette. Franco reveals that he wanted to present a female vampire that had heart and doesn't want to be nasty, but still has to kill people out of basic necessity. Moreover, Franco notes that the bulk of the movie was shot on the island of Madeira in about a week and admits that he prefers women over men. Best of all, Franco goes into detail on how he first met Romay while waiting for an elevator and immediately knew that she was his soul mate. In addition, Franco talks a bit about his other favorite star actress Soledad Miranda. Loaded with choice clips from "Female Vampire," it's recommended viewing for both fans of Franco in general and the picture in particular.
