His Job is what?
pjcguy-963-67726120 July 2021
Cowboys used to be line runners or fence checkers. This was an important job when barbed wire fences ran for miles and were the only thing keeping cattle from straying. In this movie the same job is apparently to keep the wind turbines from straying. There is no other explanation for this job. None. Wind turbines usually spread from private to public to private land, and if cattle or other animal herds cohabited the space, then fencing would be important. Otherwise, why does this job exist? They cannot be defending the turbines. Anyone can climb a fence. Why do I care? Because the entire movie is based on this job. Both fail.

Damn dude if you don't own a wind turbine manufacturing company then jump off a cliff. We're seeking reviews of movies in this section not Got damn dissertation on turbine functionality. What we need is a break down of good and bad opinionated thoughts of the film in question preferably without any spoilers. Keep that in mind the next time you choose to bloviate through written thoughts.

Turbines
a_baron21 January 2020
This is yet another low budget horror film from the nether regions of Australia. Low budget and low everything else. A film needs to have if not a plot then some sort of excuse for a plot. A documentary about a spree killer shooting people at random has a plot by default, namely following the people hunting him. But a film in which a bloke goes around pummelling people to death with a hammer, and next to nothing else doesn't really cut the mustard.

True, there is the inference that somehow turbines are responsible, or maybe the guy has a brain tumour like real life spree killer Charles Whitman. There is a punchline at the very end which is perhaps not what the viewer would expect, but really, this one has nothing to offer.

Terrible
omendata25 November 2019
The main actor is a stuntman and cant act and presumably thats his real life girlfriend in the movie they cannot keep their hands off each other its rather embarrassingly amateur.

Then we have the overexposed bright almost white camerawork.

Then the dialogue = I am at the bit where they are talking at the table its like amateur hour at the local primary school am-dram.

I am only 19 mins in and I have to switch off!

OMG 😂

This movie is so unbelievably stupid, and the acting is horrible. I stopped it at first but I had to see the twist at the end. LMAO It went from bad to worse. What a waste.

Are you feeling okay?

Warning: Spoilers
Atilla (Igor Breakenback) and his wife Jana (Bianca Bradey) relocate to Australia under a government program. He must work on a wind farm as a path to citizenship. PLOT SPOILER: He goes crazy and kills people as he gets Wind Turbine Syndrome (WTS). What the film fails to say is the wind turbine syndrome is not a real thing. It is not an official classification. What is also omits is that the investigation in WTS was paid for by Waubra Foundation representing Australia's fossil fuel industry.

Guide: Sex. No nudity.

I liked when he hammered things.
deadeighties25 October 2021
Having watched this movie with a group of 5 friends after finding it through a random selection of movies online, our consensus on this film is that we thought it was stupid, but it was at least entertaining in a group.

By no means does low budget inherently mean something is BAD, I have seen plenty of low budget films that've been great! But the quality of this film was... generally pretty bad. Acting wasn't great, microphone quality was total trash, makeup and effects were bare minimum effort, and the plot itself wasn't really worth the amount of time we spent watching.

None of the characters were particularly distinguishable from each other other than The Wife and The Kid. We collectively struggled to recognize a person involved in The Twist™ of the film. There were multiple time-skips in the film, one of which that explicitly mentioned 5 years passed. All of the other time-skips were easy to miss and hard to follow.

My personal favourite part of the film was every single time the scene changed to Atilla's work, and he was just hammering the same fence pole. It didn't matter how much time had passed, it looked like absolutely no work had been done.

Not good.

Warning: Spoilers
A man is driven homicidal by wind turbines. That's literally the plot.

The acting is subpar, the writing is horrendous, & the budget is non-existent.

I was able to hang in till the end, but it wasn't easy. Especially as bad as the 3rd act is, & it is REALLY bad. Back to back scenes of him overtaking armed police with nothing more than his hammer.

The Dr. Finding his dead wife, then hiding behind a door, with a desk lamp, only for her to stand there (doing nothing with said lamp) & letting herself be killed.

Or how about said wife being deceased for DAYS, yet shows no decomposition of any kind. She isn't even pale or stiff. It's lazy. Speaking of lazy... the "twist" ending. Oh, the "twist" is the worst/laziest attempt at a twist ending I have ever seen. The 1st half is watchable, the 2nd half is unbearably bad. Barely gets 2 stars. Go watch Psycho instead.

Horribly bad
casablancavic23 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You see 10 star reviews and there's no way that anybody who did not work on this movie would give it 10 stars.

Even if they did work on this movie - the best they can do is 1...that's because there's no negative stars.

Lousy story with some really uninspired actors and a plot that never was or even could be.

There's simply nothing of interest and this certainly ranks among the worst movies I ever spent time watching - I stuck to the end to see if there was some slight chance of anything to make it interesting.

There's nothing.

This review can be a better movie than the movie itself is.

I wasted my time so that you don't have to waste yours.

This review doesn't contain spoilers because there's nothing to spoil.

Important topic made absurd by this film
AJ4F21 December 2021
It's a shame this wasn't far more subtle, since problems with industrial wind power have long been excused by the media and profiteers who fancy themselves environmentalists.

I was hoping for something that didn't smack of Trump claiming these space-hogs (directly) cause cancer, giving their supporters an excuse to ignore other health risks. Conflating speculation with legitimate complaints allows defenders to skip context. Infrasound and other noise has been well documented as a problem but this film barely goes into detail.

I suppose the makers assume enough people know of the issues, so they needn't elaborate. But the plot was still excessive. Overall I can't recommend it because it goes too far and explains too little. I gave it a 5 for daring to take on the topic in some way.

High point: It's a shame that the shapely field-lead didn't get luckier.

Related trivia: The 2012 movie, "Promised Land" was originally going to be about wind power, not fracking.

Funny and creepy
connorvanvuuren-154-65271815 December 2019
Great flick, and not at all what I expected. I loved Igor Breakenback's performance, creepy and humorous. And Warren Coulten was great as his mate Waz. Bianca Bradey is always awesome, and has made Australian low Budget Horrors her thing. Yes, it's obviously low budget and a bit raw, but that just adds to the charm.

Creepy, weird and effective!
liam-716529 December 2019
You don't go into a low-budget horror film expecting a 10. And I didn't know what to expect going into this film; it was quite a suprise! The acting was surprisingly good, both leads playing immigrants to Australia, the atmosphere was creepy and effective, and you have no idea where it's going. It's a bold attempt at hitchcock, give it a go!

Still waiting for something ANYTHING to happen.
berg-745328 June 2022
On the streaming service I watched this on they gave no actual plot it basically said it's scary and nothing more and in retrospect it was the perfect description because this movie has no plot. The first half hour was nothing but him crawling on to and off of the female lead which was entirely with out value since she might be the best looking woman on the planet. There is nothing here I'm not sure how a horror movie about a wind farm would make you say "windmills are perfect subplot to a horror movie" but apparently someone thought it was.

Can a thriller be charming?
ShaneBorza11 December 2019
I may be a bit biased, as I co-wrote and co-directed this film in Australia several years ago, but had no hand in the post-production or editing. Imagine my surprise when the limited money and resources we had in production ended up on Amazon Prime!

The end result is different than the shooting script, which enabled me to be continuously surprised as there were twists and turns I expected - only to have them go in a different direction!

Admittedly, this is not a polished masterpiece, but it has a lot of heart and, for a thriller, it is genuinely charming. The experience I had of living in Australia for three years comes across in the 'aw shucks' of the quirky small town outback community, the characters, and the situations they find themselves in.

There's a cute house, wife, dog, and child, along with workplace banter, ribbing, and friendship, mixed in with marital bliss, domestic squabbles, and sex. But what of the stunts, action, and bloody mayhem? These're great too and will genuinely cause you to squirm!

I'd recommend anyone who wants to make a movie to watch this and see what can be done. Get your mates together, figure it out, and - even if it takes years - you too may have the thrill of people from around the world watching what you created.

Good on ya Igor!

Why all the bad reviews??
ratgirl13200217 October 2021
There's nothing wrong with this movie. It's more of a psychological horror. No real gore. It's watching a man slip into mental illness. The acting was fine, the script was fine. If you're looking for jump scares, this isn't it. But give it a try! I did.

Great representation of local Australian filmmaking!
maxdov9610 December 2019
I saw this movie at the premier in Sydney and was pleasantly surprised. Igor displays a passion for filmmaking given the time and effort that goes into producing, writing, editing and acting in your own film. Turbines has it all and may not be the most cinematic movie out there; but if you value a enthusiasm for cinema then enjoy Turbines.

It's a twisty tale
grandpappywaz13 December 2019
It's a film that has a European feel set in an Australian countryside. It twists and turns and leaves you in your own head long after the film has finished.
