This summer, it's Mandy Moore's turn to fight a shark. In 47 Meters Down (out June 16), the onetime "Candy" singer stars alongside Vampire Diaries actress Claire Holt as two sisters whose vacation takes a turn for the worst when their diving cage breaks away from a boat and sinks to the bottom of the ocean. To get to safety, the sisters will have to swim through waters infested by bloodthirsty great white sharks. Guess how far that swim is? Anyway, here's something strange: I own a copy of this movie on DVD, except it's titled In the Deep.
That's because 47 Meters Down was initially set to be released straight-to-dvd last August, just a little over a month after the summer's other shark attack movie, The Shallows, hit theaters on June 24. (Another weird fact: In the Deep, which 47 Meters Down was briefly rebranded, was the original name of The Shallows from Anthony Jaswinski's script.) In the end, it's not...

Mandy Moore is scrubbing in as what Fox is calling a "recurring guest star" on the freshman hospital dramedy "Red Band Society." The network announced this morning that Moore will play Dr. Erin Grace, chief of staff at Ocean Park Hospital, home to the pediatric wing caring for the show's main characters. Grace is also the ex-fiancee to Dave Annable's Dr. McAndrews, which may cause seconds of confusion for people who think that with dark hair, Mandy Moore has at least a superficial resemblance -- it's in the cheekbones, I think -- to Annable's real-life wife Odette Annable. "Red Band Society" premieres on Wednesday, September 17 at 9 p.m. on Fox. You can check out my Take Me To The Pilots entry for a show that I think has a fair amount of potential. I also talked to co-stars Wilson Cruz and Rebecca Rittenhouse earlier this week and I'll be...

Exclusive: Ben McKenzie has spent his entire TV career to date at Warner Bros, starring on The O.C. and Southland. Now the actor is formalizing his relationship with a studio, signing a talent deal that includes a development component. The pact gives Wbtv exclusivity on McKenzie’s services as an actor for television projects, while he also can bring the studio projects that he would star in if they go forward. McKenzie was a fresh-faced 24-year-old with virtually no credits when Wbtv cast him a decade ago as the lead of its Fox teen drama The O.C. He went on to topline the studio’s cop drama Southland, first on NBC and then on TNT, and starred in Wbtv’s CBS drama pilot The Advocates this past season. McKenzie is with CAA, Management 360 and Pj Shapiro.

Mandy Moore has been giving TV the ol' college try for a few pilot seasons now and in this latest cycle, she was attached to both an ABC comedy, "Pulling," and a CBS drama, "The Advocates."
Moore left "Pulling" and Kristen Schaal eventually replaced her. "Mandy is a pro, and has been very patient and accommodating with us," "Pulling" producers told TV Guide in March. "As we moved closer to production, it was clear we needed to go in a different direction for the character."
Moore joined "The Advocates" opposite Ben McKenzie, but neither show made it to series.
In earlier seasons, Moore was attached to star in a put pilot from Rich Appel and co-starred in a pilot about a newlywed couple who open a restaurant in which Stockard Channing played her mother.

"I tried!" Mandy Moore says with a hapless chuckle about her efforts to star in a fall series.
The singer-actress provides one of the voices for the "High School USA!" segment of Fox's new "Animation Domination High-Def" block -- which gets a primetime preview Sunday, July 21, before premiering in its regular late-night slot Saturday, July 27 -- but she also had two bids for live-action series for the coming season.
First was ABC's "Pulling," an adaptation of a British comedy about three women struggling through their 30s. Moore was the first main actress cast, but she left the project, explaining her character was going "in a different direction." (Kristen Schaal took over the role.)
Then she signed up for CBS' "The Advocates," playing a prosecutor crusading for legal-system underdogs opposite Ben McKenzie.
Ultimately, neither show was picked up for the 2013-14 schedule. "You know, I'm a firm believer in 'everything for a reason,...

Mandy Moore is ready to expand her family.
In a recent interview with Life & Style magazine, Moore explained that she'd like a few children of her own, “but I’d like to adopt as well!” Moore, 29, married alt-country singer Ryan Adams, 38, in 2009 after a two-year courtship. Until recently, the couple's family has mostly consisted of rescue animals including a few adorable kitties whose pictures often flood Adams' Twitter feed.
Right now Moore and Adams do not have a timeline for their family planning, but it's definitely an idea that's been on her mind. “There are many children out there that need a nice loving home and future,” Moore explains.
In 2012, Moore was reportedly working on a follow-up album to her 2009 release "Amanda Leigh" (with Adams' help). The release date is currently unknown. Moore also recently joined the cast of the CBS drama "The Advocates."
Looking forward to hearing more from this couple!

I’ve learned that CBS has passed on high-profile drama pilot The Advocates. The project, written by The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller and directed by David Nutter, starred Mandy Moore and Ben McKenzie as a female lawyer and a male ex-con who team up as “victim advocates,” going to the very edge of the law to right wrongs and fight for the underdog. I hear Warner Bros. TV, which produces the project, will shop it elsewhere. Also being shopped at the moment is another CBS drama pilot that didn’t make the cut, Beverly Hills Cop. So far CBS has picked up two new drama series, Hostages, also from Warner Bros., and Intelligence, from ABC Studios/CBS TV Studios.

Actress Mandy Moore pushed away from the ABC pilot Pulling, just to pull for the CBS pilot The Advocates. Sounds exhausting! But we know many of you out there are pulling for her to appear in any really good pilot in hopes of seeing her as a series regular very soon.
The news was right here when Moore won a leading role in ABC’s Pulling, a single-camera comedy pilot, based on a 2006 show of the same name from Britain, which will follow three “dysfunctional” women in their 30s. Moore wasn’t going to play the star, but she had signed on to play one of the three leads. Her character, Louise, was desperate to find herself a husband. As Louise developed, however, she started going in a different direction, one where Moore wasn’t the best qualified to take her, so to speak.

Mandy Moore has been cast opposite Benjamin McKenzie on CBS' The Advocates, the network confirms, coming on board the drama as an attorney.

Produced by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), The Advocates will also star Cch Pounder, Esai Morales and Brit Morgan.

Last season, Wme-repped Nutter directed the pilot of the CW’s Arrow, one of the fall’s very few breakout hits. Of the 18 pilots he has directed, 17 have gone to series.

CBS has handed two more pilot orders to comedy Bad Teacher, from Hilary Winston, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg; and drama The Advocates, from The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller. Bad Teacher, a single-camera comedy series adaptation of the hit 2011 movie, was written by Winston (Happy Endings, Community) and produced by the film’s writers-producers Stupnitsky and Eisenberg. The TV adaptation, about a sexy, foul-mouthed divorcee who becomes a teacher to find her next husband, is being produced by Sony Pictures TV, where Winston is under a deal, Mosaic and Stupnitsky and Eisenberg’s Quantity Entertainment. Winston, Stupnitsky and Eisenberg executive produce, with Winston set to showrun. Bad Teacher‘s pickup increases single-camera comedies’ advantage at CBS to 5 pilots vs. 3 multi-camera ones as the network appears determined to launch multiple single-camera comedies next season. This marks the second pilot for Winston, repped by UTA and Mosaic, who also has comedy Girls On Film at NBC.
