More depth than title belies
FredaOm7 March 2023
As an Australian and an educator, it is difficult to imagine the intense pressure put on high schoolers to do well in exams, especially leading up to college entrance. This series portrays those pressures in a variety of ways; overbearing mothers; competitiveness of trying to get into top academies; the need to study to the point of exhaustion; the extremes some students go to, and more. The 16-episode format allows for in depth explorations of so much and this is one reason why they have become so popular.

Crash Course in Romance also deals with common K-drama romance tropes such as class difference, with the well-off main character falling for a natural, struggling, hard-working woman, rather than the privileged, rich, and in this case, more beautiful counterparts. Upper class female characters are often portrayed quite negatively, and this is no different. It certainly reflects some stifling aspects of Korean society, where those with money seem fixated on appearance and gossip and are ready to judge extremely harshly those who step out of their class boundaries. One shrieking intense mother played by Kim Sun-young does this in consummate style, but then she is such an experienced actor, this is no surprise.

It has a darker element running through it, which adds intrigue and mystery. This certainly helps maintain interest, which is so important over the 16-episode format.

Finally, there is a sensitive portrayal of a character on the spectrum. Oh Eui-shik as Nam Jae-woo is extraordinary in this role, helped by good script writing. The whole family unit of the main players works so well with convincing relationship dynamics. The young Roh Yoon-seo, consolidates her position as a rising star after her award for Our Blues. Her portrayal of Nam Hae-yi was understated, controlled and therefore quite tricky to maintain. She did her character justice. I also liked the evolving relationship between Choi Chi-yeol (Jung Kyung-ho) and Nam Jae-woo, which was done so sensitively and beautifully.

So this series is packed with good acting, believable characters and there is a good deal to recommend it.

This was unexpectedly good
TheodoraEh30 March 2023
I wasn't really interested in watching this, the title made me think it'd be too cheesy. But the title in Korean would have been something like "Top Scandal" instead of Romance so anyway I decided to watch and I'm glad it wasn't just focused on the romance part. By reading the comments here I see that some people find it weird that the female lead was older and "looked like it". That's insulting in so many levels. And more importantly, it happens in real life that people look their age and sometimes they get in relationships with younger people. Both male and female. So that was refreshing to see.

The whole drama managed to include Sky Castle-ish education issues, a mystery case, murder, suic*de (I never saw a trigger warning, maybe I missed it), and others, in just 16 episodes, so that's quite a feat. And that's why it wasn't boring.

The actors were all great, both young and old, as expected in Korean series. If only they spoke juust a bit faster. Watching it in faster speed helped.

Sometimes I was annoyed by how rude they spoke to the brother with Asperger's but I see no one mentioned it so I guess I'm overreacting.

All in all pretty good, and very unexpectedly so!

Truth and Consequenes of Korea's Education System
spasek30 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Crash Course in Romance" is a series that is rock solid through fifteen episodes, and then limps to the finish line with a very mediocre final episode. It was clear that the writers had enough material for fifteen episodes, and then ended up having to come up with some gimmicks to stretch it to sixteen, which is almost always a mistake for a writer to make.

This is a series that is part romance, part thriller, which is something that the Koreans are masters. They are fantastic at utilizing multiple genres within a single series and making it work.

This is a series that seeks to shed light on the obsession with education in Korea. Korea is one of the top countries in education, which obviously accounts for much of the country's success. But, at what cost? Korea also has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, especially among teens. You're dealing with tiger moms, worn-out kids, and one of the most competitive cultures in the world.

I am an ESL teacher, and I have lived and worked in Korea, China, and Taiwan in the Asian countries. While education is huge in all three, Korea surpasses the others when it comes to an almost obsessive, compulsive need to be the best. And this series does a tremendous job of exposing the education culture of Korea with the realization that change is needed.

First of all, students in Korea are expected to study from sunrise, and in many cases, until midnight or later. This is true for children as young as 2nd or 3rd grade. I remember asking many of my students on the eve of a long holiday what they planned to do (thinking that they might do something fun). All of them said, "Studying. My parents told me to bring my books on our vacation." In the series, we see the culture of students in Nam Hae Yi, Bang Soo Ah, and Lee Seon Jae.

Bang Soo Ah has an unhealthy and frenetic outlook on her education. If she doesn't finish as #1, she sees herself as a failure. But worse than that, she gets angry at those who beat her, feeling that they must have done something wrong or dishonest.

Lee Seon Jae is put under such pressure from his mother, that he ends up doing something terribly wrong.

Second, we have Tiger moms. This a term used to describe mothers who are so obsessed with their children's education and future, that nothing else matters to them. They will even dictate to teachers what should or shouldn't be done. We have a number of tiger moms depicted in this series. Of course, they will all state that it's for their children. This is a lie. These are women who live vicariously through their own kids and use them to achieve social status. Their children are nothing but pawns, and yes, this is a form of child abuse. It's no less abusive for moms in the west who give little-to-no attention to their kids, not caring what they do or don't do. That is abuse too. These are two cultures of extremes, where balance is needed. Make no mistake: most children in Asian countries and cultures are never given much of a chance to be a kid. Many of their lives are mapped and planned out for them. They are told who to marry, what job they will do, and what to do every single day. I have spoken with so many native teachers of these countries who say that they hate their education system.

Believe it or not, I actually had a Korean student who was upset with his test scores at school. His own mother told him, "If you can't do any better than this, then you should throw yourself off the balcony!" Yes, that's a true story.

In this series, we have tiger moms who will do anything to bring other students down. Other mothers down. In short, there isn't much they won't do to ensure that their child is among the elite. Now, you may look at some of the scenes in this series and say, "Goodness! Do those things really happen? Do mothers really do these kinds of things?" Yes, they do. And that is the truth of the harsh reality that virtually nothing depicted in this series is exaggerated.

Choi Chi Yeol is arguably Korea's top academy math teacher. He's so popular, that moms and students line up on the street for a chance to get into one of his classes. There's no doubt that he's a great teacher, bringing great enthusiasm and passion to his classrooms. However, it's also apparent that teaching is all there is for him. He can barely eat, and he even sleeps less. And his small, bubble world is finally blown up when he meets Nam Haeng Seon. What's funny is that Choi Chi Yeol is horrible at remembering people's names, including those he works with. However, someone is killing anyone who attempts to harm Choi Chi Yeol, and we're given a pretty good thriller aspect as we try to figure out who it could be.

Nam Haeng Seon is a woman who runs a small side-dish café while raising her niece who was left on Nam Haeng Seon's doorstep when the girl was only a few years old. It's clear that Nam Haeng Seon wants the best for her niece, but she wisely allows Nam Hae Yi to choose and create her own path. In short, she's a supportive mother who isn't a tiger mom. She's a perfect balance of supporting Nam Hae Yi without going overboard.

The relationship between Choi Chi Yeol and Nam Haeng Seon is endearing and cute, despite the fact that occasionally, there appears to be little romantic chemistry between the two leads. Don't get me wrong. Jeon Do Yeon and Jung Kyung Ho are masterful in their roles. But I made me wonder if the fact that Jeon Do Yeon is 10+ years older than her co-star had something to do with it. I've seen Jung Kyung Ho in series like "Hospital Playlist" and he's nothing short of brilliant in this series as well. He's very believable as the tightly wound and somewhat aloof math teacher. I was also very impressed with Roh Yoon Seo (Nam Hae Yi). This young lady has a bright future ahead of her.

This series was a "10" for me until the last episode. The writers suddenly forced a contrived storyline upon us where Nam Hae Yi's mother comes back, and she suddenly announces that she's going to move with her selfish, gold-digging mother to Japan, which comes right out of the blue. Also, it simply doesn't fit with the character of Nam Hae Yi. Now, one might believe that she did it to protect her aunt and Choi Chi Yeol, but no resolution or discussion is ever made to account for her behavior. It was ridiculous and it didn't fit with the rest of the story. We also got no real resolution between Lee Seon Jae's mother and his brother, whom she suspected of being a murderer. A resolution scene there would have gone far, but that came up short as well.

All in all, this was a very nice series to be a part of. I'm glad that someone decided to shed some light on Korea's issues with the educational system. It's high time the children stop paying the price for their parents' obsession with status. This series would have been perfect had it ended after 15 episodes, but even with the lackluster 16th, it's still a good series!

Immersive, comforting, exactly what you want to come home to at the end of the day!
WendyPrue5 February 2023
Felt compelled to leave my first review ever.

There's something so deeply satisfying about this story and these characters. It makes you want to stay with them long after the episodes are over. You're going to fall head over heels for Nam Haeng-Seon, her cosy side dishes resto, her tightly knit family and her friendship with her best friend. You're also going to get sucked into the drama and competitive attitudes of high school students, their teachers and their parents.

It's also refreshing to see comedy and tender feelings of romance between the lead pair who are in their 40s and 50s respectively. I've watched some UH-MAY-ZING romances before, for some reason this just tops everything, even crash landing on you, something in the rain, hometown cha cha cha. Hometown cha cha cha may be a close second though.

Can't recommend this enough. Had to leave a review because 7 episodes are already out and i can't believe no one's left a review yet.

It's very hard to show what it's like to fall in love.
lindadillonjones13 February 2023
It's hard to capture what it's like to be falling in love with someone, especially if they are not able to express their love to one another. He believes she's married. She's not exactly a "catch" being a single mom with a difficult uncle in the family. She's had a difficult life. So you can really empathize with her situation, and with the fact that he recognizes what a good person she is. It's a very special program and I'm recommending it to everyone. Maybe it's because they are both such admirable people that you really want them to find the happiness they deserve. And also, the male lead is truly adorable! It's a premium to be tall, even in Korea!

LOVED THIS SO MUCH. Highly recommend.
lesleyalexandrov10 February 2023
Dear previous reviewer. I haven't yet written a review on this series as I'm waiting for the next episodes to be released in Europe from Netflix ! I can't wait, it has been PERFECT up until now.... In the meantime I would like to add that I'm on my 4th (fourth) South Korean Netflix series. Since having discovered them with Crash Landing On You, I have been overwhelmed at the quality of these ...what could easily be described as sheer unadulterated adorable romcons, but somehow much more...We are treated to eye candy for the soul and the evoking of all sorts of human misgivings AND attributes. Plus GORGEOUS (and extremely talented) actors, fantastic scenery, escapism from our somewhat sometimes dull and/or hectic lives here in Europe. I have noticed an unusual and telling grasp of HUMAN NATURE captured in all the series I've seen so far...without exception. Each and every character has his/her relatable flaws, but also their strengths....it is SO inspiring to watch. And last but not least, I APPLAUD the subtitled translators into English of these series, they are SPOT ON! (despite a lot of « Gosh », which are SO endearing (the Americans would probably use « Gee »!), but no matter, Gosh to this reviewer is more than perfectly acceptable and cute..don't stop.

To conclude, I highly recommend CRASH COURSE IN ROMANCE as a get- away-from-it all, virtual visit to South Korea...it will broaden your mind (don't sue me if it doesn't, but it should do if your mind need's broadening !

Very Recommended K.Drama
neotexindojatim14 February 2023
I am a big fan of Korean dramas since decades. I've watched hundreds of Korean dramas, they're all good. But I only give the best ratings for Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Full House, and Crash landing on you. And now I found the latest drama, Crash Course in Romance: One Shot Scandal.

This is very good overall. Tells the story of education in Korea today, with very complete spices, romance, comedy, melo, mystery, murder.

With the main plot of a woman who sacrificed her youth to raise her nephew and take care of her autistic brother. And the story of a handsome and successful math star teacher.

ML: Jung Kyung Ho, FL: Jeon Do Yeon, they memorized the script really well in every dialogue.

Very very recommended.

Wholesome Family Drama OR Serial Killer Story (?!)
gracechrista4 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show is cute and wholesome, don't get me wrong, but viewers should be warned that the overarching story ends up being more dark than the title reveals (as someone who has watched through episode 15).

While part of the main story revolves around the cute romance between two mature single characters, another part revolves around Korean societal issues such as college admissions pressure from desperate parents and the depression, anger, and suic*dality that it results in for students. This second part of the story becomes the main part of the story halfway through, with the looming threat and mystery of a sadistic serial killer hanging over the main character's lives.

Unfortunately, I felt that this secondary and more gruesome storyline spoiled the romance and became its foil; when the main characters seemed to reach their happiness, the drama shifted to a more depressing storyline and lost its charm.

I've fallen in love with these actors and characters, but it's a shame that I haven't been able to enjoy them fully due to this strangely placed villain arc that doesn't match the tone of the rest of the show and seems to be pointless with no real moral takeaway.

I wish Crash Course in Romance would've been more like Hometown Cha Cha Cha with no forced villain arc but instead a focus on the real lives and development of the good characters. Of course, this is a classic move for Kdramas, but it felt like an awkward and tasteless choice for an otherwise wholesome, fun, and happy drama.

EXTRAORDINARY! thoroughly enjoyable
nsdbonnie-855381 March 2023
This has been a fun and even at times an "edge of your seat" series. The story line was intriguing and kept you engaged. Even though I am a 71 year old grandmother of 6 I found it nice to have some good story lines that I could just sit back and enjoy! I just wish it was dubbed in English. I enjoy having a glimpse at Korean culture and life-styles. I have found the twists and turns of the educational system very fascinating. It is so unlike what we have in the US. Parents really take an incredible amount of interest and input into their children and their education, just wonderful. I would love to see a second season of this!

Adding a comment since I just finished watching the last episode! I can't remember a show I have enjoyed more!

Starts out great, and then...
evendir-308-38666417 April 2023
At first, this show is really great! It's everything you want out of a rom-com k-drama. Likeable leads, nice flow, good acting, high production value. It's a bit heavy, but it's to make a point about the state of the insane educational environment currently prevalent in South Korea.

But, wow, when it starts to stray and put more focus on some of the other plotlines (around episode 10 I think it was), it gets real silly, real fast. It really loses all idea of what it's trying to say, and common sense flies entirely out the window in the process. Side characters become complete caricatures, situations become super forced. In particular, the first hour of the finale is wretched. It is, in all seriousness, truly insultingly bad. Literally everyone starts acting completely out of character, in an attempt to create as much random drama as possible when one can only assume they had completely run out of ideas and are trying to fill time until they can get to the proper wrap-up.

Anyway, overall it's worth watching, because it really is quite good for a while, but you might find yourself rolling your eyes a lot as it enters the stretch run, as I did.

Enjoyable
jaldred-6612026 March 2023
I really enjoyed this show. The school pressure storyline was good. The romance bits were a little less believable given that there appeared quite an age gap between ml and fl. The relationship between the brother and the boyfriend was also well done, but Aspergers no longer exists: everyone is now on the Autism spectrum. This was in no way a perfect drama (also some continuity problems) but something a little different and all the actors were great. If you are looking for something light to watch then I recommend it but you don't need to stay home for it. The thriller aspect was a little obvious but also enjoyable.

Something fresh
blebbe27 March 2023
I like the concept of this series. It explores the academic situation for many teens in South-Korea, especially the darker side of it; all the stress and competitiveness. I really enjoyed that part. The storyline was quite unique as well. The romance was also enjoyable, especially when there were multiple couples to root for.

As many have said, it felt like the crime part of this series started to take over about halfway. I did like the thriller side of the story, but it could have been better balanced with the romance story. I also feel like some of the side characters' stories were left unfinished at the end. This is truly a shame since some of their stories were really interesting.

Zero chemistry unfortunately
findramya10 March 2023
Omg! There is zero chemistry between the actors. For romantic dramas chemistry is so important. I almost cringed every time I saw them together. They really look like brother and sister. For the first time I actually had to fast forward the romantic scenes. The plot is good I really wish they had casted a different actress. This actress really needs to pick roles that suit her. Her voice is also so annoying. Her hairstyle was so crazy. I understand she runs a small restaurant but still she really lacked the charm for this role. But otherwise it was an ok drama. The scenes with her autistic brother were very touching.

One of the BEST series in a long time
owlo-129566 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A very good story and terrific cast. This series was one of the best I've seen in years. The storylines were believable and the characters were authentic. Really enjoyed watching every week and looked forward to it! The main characters were likable and had great chemistry. You won't be disappointed. Now that the entire series has dropped you can binge it! The male & female leads did an excellent job. They made the transition of adversarial relationship to loving relationship very well. The female lead was fantastic. So much empathy and heart, I loved her! The girl who played the daughter was terrific and I hope to see her again.

Important coverage of an essential issue makes up for any imperfections
milofergusemily26 February 2023
This series has ripened into two worthy examinations. The first being the fire like role of gossip and inuendo and it capacities for social damage, and the second searingly important role of academic pressure for young adult learners. What high school students navigate in todays world of academic admissions, the grueling realities of rank in social ordering connected. It has really gotten out of control and proportion. This series set in Korea, examines something happening world wide. The rest of the series provides the cushion for this examination to happen and land, in a loving family order that draws the mathlete star into their warm orbit, and they act as the cushion for the series hard edges of cold sky scrapers and other cold realities. The main characters are not perfect but in the end something works.

So much to love about this but chemistry is a bit off
leahcubed16 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
9/10 is my rating. This is a 2023 South Korean comedy romance drama with 16, 70 Minute Episodes.

First I provide a synopsis then a review.

Synopsis Nam Haeng-seon's (Jeon Do-yeon) has been all about supporting the niece her sister abandoned and her autistic brother. After giving up a spot on the national handball team to raise her niece and take care of her disabled brother, she carries on with the recipes her deceased mother used and runs a banchan shop that became a favorite of food bloggers. Money is tight as a single wage earner and the last thing she needs is to deal with an eccentric spoiled celebrity who breaks her autistic brother's phone following an misunderstanding. Or so she thinks. Choi Chi-yeol (Jung Kyung-ho) works at an elite academy where people line up quite literally to get their child a prized spot in one of his tutor classes. The two are destined to interact though as Haeng-seon's niece requests a slot in Chi-yeol's sessions so she can bring up her scores and Chi-yeol finds that, for some reason, Haeng-seon's food is the only food that does not trigger his eating disorder. It provides a slice of life of South Korea's competitive educational system which provides a backdrop for an unlikely romance.

Review

Overall a very light hearted romantic comedy with a slice of life into the competitive world of academics. I found that view on how much power and influence wealthy parents can have interesting and not all that different than what you might see with ivy league colleges in the United States. I recommend it for anyone that likes straight forward romances, slice of life and family dynamics.

Spoilers

The male and female lead had a 10 year age gap in the actual ages of the actors with the Jeon Do-Yeon being 10 years older than Jung Kung-ho. Do yeon is a beautiful and elegant lady but she looks her age. Kung-ho has a young face that looked even younger than his age and made the gap seem even larger. Both did an amazing job acting but the physical appearance of the age gap really disrupted the chemistry in my opinion. It was more sweet than passionate.

It was a little disappointing that the issue with Chi-yeol's assistant Ji-Dong Hee (Shin Jae-ha) ended with suicide. It felt like too little for everything he had done.

The chemistry between Haeng-seong's best friend, Kim Yong-joo (Lee Bong-ryun) and her brother, Nam Jae-woo (Oh Eui-shick) was also off. With the brother's autism it would have taken a slow build over the series with them slowly showing feelings for each other. Her abruptly expressing interest in him seemed like she was doing it only out of loneliness and his reciprocation wound up feeling like pity. There was no "ah finally" when they became a couple because it really wasn't that much of the series where she expressed interest in him, he initially rejected her, then they were together.

As a fan of the reality dating show "Heart Signal" I was fan girling when Bae Yoon-kyung had a role as Chi-yeol's blind date and 2nd romantic interest. I am excited her acting career has taken off and I thought she did a great job in this show.

I loved the relationship between the daughter/nice, Nam Hae-Yi (Roh Yoon-seo) and her aunt/mother Nan Haeng-seon (Jeon Do-yeon). If you love and raise a child biology does not matter. And, an aunt, because of dominant and recessive genes can be more closely genetically related to their niece or nephew than the mother anyway.

I loved the relationship between the daughter/niece, Nam Hae-Yi (Roh Yoon-seo) and her aunt/mother Nan Haeng-seon (Jeon Do-yeon). If you love and raise a child biology does not matter. And, an aunt, because of dominant and recessive genes can be more closely genetically related to their niece or nephew than the mother anyway. Did I not want to see Hae-Yi try to fix him or feel like she owed anyone that, I felt like he wasn't there for her during some really key times when he withdrew and basically ghosted her. That is why I was more a fan of her dating the ice hockey player and fellow student Seo Geon-hu (Lee Min-jae) because he was more straight forward with his feelings, always there for her, and I thought he would have been very good for the often too serious and underconfident Hae-yi. Instead he wound up with selfish and spoiled and almost mean girl Bang Soo-ah (Kang Na-eon) who he claimed was nice but, aside from one time when she welcomed back Hae-yi when she returned from the hospital and gave her notes, never showed a kind side. I thought the ice hockey playing, lovable and handsome Geon-hu deserved better.

The friendship between Geon-hu and Seon-jae was cute as it developed out of their rivalry over Hae-ri. I felt like Geon-hu gave up Hae-ri as he could tell her hear was with Seon-jae but also he started to like Seon-jae as a friend and was willing to give up the girl for the friendship. Still I wish he hadn't settled for a character I did not find likeable. Hae-ri's loyal girl friend Jang Dan Ji (Ryu Da-In) would have been a better choice as she was consistently nice and loyal and he did seem to have a flirty friendship going on with her before he suddenly switched to Soo-ah.

#CrashCourseInRomance #JeonDoYeon #JungKyungHo #RohYoonSeo #LeeChaeMin #ShinJaeHa #OhEuiShick #LeeMinJae.

Must Watch
kausha-247052 March 2023
They have kept it so simple and natural that anyone can connect to it. Acting, story everything is 10/10. I Love K-dramas but now loving even more. This series have everything which we connect with our normal lives - The high schoolers, gossips of mothers, love of mother for kids, kindness, plotting, murder, Mistry and everything. Every character has been played well. But just one this is missing is romance - Don't go seeing the tile. Title is not matching with the story and thats the Con of this series other that i didn't found any cons.

Waiting for the last two episodes. Hope that it won't change my review for this.

I understand the hype but was Expecting more.
hanalisss4 April 2023
This was great entertainment but I think they tried too many stories and they loose a bit of intensity and you also forget at times about events that get no closure.

I loved the main story line if the professor, the academy, the mums and of course his love story. It was quite refreshing watch a more mature couple although they still insisted of making them both completely inexperienced and new to love even pushing their 40s. That's an obsession of koreans and their idea of virginity, but as unrealistic as it can be.

Other than that it was great, despite the 10 years gap between the ages of the leads it looked somewhat believable, but not for their chemistry but for the absolutely amazing acting, they are very experienced actors and you can tell.

The secondary storyline with the teenagers ( love story and school bullying) is another one, and that was very interesting as well ( it was worthy of it's own drama) but the execution wasn't perfect due to the series focusing on all the other storylines so it was left incomplete and the finish was rushed.

The big surprise was the serial killer twist, which was extremely rushed and packed in the latest episodes which made it completely unbelievable and wasn't carried on smoothly throughout the show. I don't think they did a good job with this part but this is what we got.

Overall original and funny but I was expecting more.

Aaaamazing love story
jegharikkeemail26 March 2023
I have just finished the fantastic love story - thanks to all the cast and creators of this amazing story. It is captivating entertaining and one of my favourites and I know i will be watching it again and again. Highy recommended.

The actors made it soo good i need to be able to buy the series online. Either on iTunes or on a online store - i am from Europe - Denmark - and there is no place to go and buy the series. I hope you create a place where i can buy asian series that are as good as this one.

And remember to advertise it so i and others like me can get a hold of this fantastic series.

Casting doesn't do the show justice
hungryheartz22 March 2023
You don't cast someone who looks ten years older than the role's age. I mostly wanted to skip all the romantic scene between the two main leads...he seems like he is seducing his mother-in-law more than someone his age.

Either choose an older guy or a woman that looks nearer to the age of the guy, not one that looks more than 10 years older. She is not the real mother of the child for goodness sake.

Apart from that, it is quite a good show but not one that I will strongly recommend though. The younger leads are better, much much better.

The plot is abit off at times too, I was expecting something better from my favourite studio dragon.

Engaging, fun, sweet
selenagw-647258 March 2023
There were multiple conflicts and different plot lines that kept this show engaging and exciting throughout every episode. I fell in love with the characters. Their struggles and actions were really relatable and honest. I loved seeing how each character grew and developed relationships with one another. Jung Kyung Ho especially is a phenomenal actor. I couldn't see anyone playing this part as well as he did. His character is very dynamic and he fully engages all the different sides of his personality, expressing his passion, his heartbreak, anger, exhaustion, inner conflict, and emotional tenderness so well.

I wasn't the biggest fan with how one of the plot lines unfolded because it felt more like an excuse than a resolution, but it wasn't bad enough to affect my overall rating.

No 16+ hour show is going to be perfect, but this one came as close as it could get. The last episode is so perfect. I feel so heartbroken that it's over but so warm with how everything came together in the end. Super sweet, comforting, and exciting.

Points for emphasizing societal abuse of students.

Warning: Spoilers
Many K dramas point out the lengths parents in South Korea go to in order to pressure/enable their children to do well on exams. (All for the child's own good, of course). This show emphasized that more than any other by showing suicides, mental and physical breakdowns, cheating, lying, fractured families and even obsessive murder. (Apparently even elementary school children are in after school academies until late at night on daily basis) However that theme did not mesh well with the romance storyline of the more mature workaholic leads. Other than the fact she sacrificed her own dreams to care for family members nothing about the lead actress explained why Choi fell in love with her. She was an annoying unlikeable person. Strangely, her and her employee were dressed like it was 1950s. The add on romance with Jae woo and employee was strange. The consequences of gossips, rumors and social media were also emphasized. The teenage characters, actors and storylines were the best! The lead actor did a fine job. But it should have been two different shows not one.

It's okay
yarinuta1114 June 2023
Honestly it was so boring at the start, and the actors did a pretty much basic job in the beginning, but at about episode 7-8 it started to get interesting, since the topics started to get more interesting other than it being focused on the same old stories everytime.

I loved the ending,I started sobbing too. It was honestly worth it I wish I finished it earlier but the first episodes were really a pain to watch.

Anyway if you're looking for a classic romantic story that goes from id say enemies to lovers this is a great kdrama, and also the plot twists are amazing 100/100 for them. I loved it yall should try to watch it if you're free!!!

Fantastic K-Drama; Romance and Mystery
PalmBeachG5 March 2023
Loved this K-Drama full of romance, and mystery involving serial killings and injuries from metal balls via a slingshot centered around one common element - the private academy where the ML Jung Kyung-ho worked as the Star Math Teacher and Tutor amongst the privileged academy kids. The struggles kids have, the competitive high-pressure parents that are living through their children, the Star Math Teacher's attachment to the side dish shop that is owned by the only mom that can't afford his lessons for her smart "child" all come to light as you watch the series. This had the most fantastic ending of all drama's I have seen in a long time, and felt this was well worth watching. The only criticism I have is that I felt that costuming could have made the FL look a little better by not having her tuck in her sweaters into her blue jeans. Just because she was being presented a hard-working mom with hardly any money didn't men that she had to dress quite so dorky; after all the ML was handsome, and seemed a bit of a mis-match.

I watch over and over again

I absolutely fell in love with the two main charachters, their chemistry is so perfect that you will not stop yourself from loving them too.

As a single mother she tries to juggle in raising a higly inteligent daughter, her autistic brother's health problem and keeping afloat her side dishes restaurant. When her daughter wants to get help from one of the most prestigious math academy in the city.

He is the most saught after math teacher in the country. His inability to taste the food he eats lands in the hospital. Then his assistant picks a few things from a local side dish shop.

His taste buds come a live.

Though we get a look of the cut-throat influential system some mothers have to get their kids into the right university (very scary situation) This charming sweet and funny K-Drama is what you need to rid yourself of all your blues.
