Bali receives every year about 2,5 millions of tourists: at the beginning the tourists were surfers: Jonny Morrison-Deaker , a surfing instructor explains the advantages of Bali as surfing places: the most important place for the surfers is Kuta with its bars and discotheques. But there is also the ecotourism: Ida Ayua Arit offers homestay for tourists: the tourists eat with her family and discover the life in the village; besides Ida buys fruits and vegetables to the other families of the village (new incomes).
Then we have the image of Denpasar with a lot of scooters: Raphaèl Denis, a Belgian technician is buying and repairing old Vespa. A family father has a 1963 Vespa and carries this son to the school every day.
Bali is a place of a great culture: Dolit Ketut is a painter of the Balinese landscape (the daily life of the farmers) and teaches miniature painting to young boys and girls. At Ubud I Wayan Kurdana is making puppets for a shadow theater, there are about 150 puppets in one spectacle.
Fishermen are looking for a sustainable fishing and are reintroducing the coral reef at the seaside (coral nurseries).
In other parts of Bali the fishermen used to fish by night to capture tuna, mackerel and barracudas: besides the people of the seashore produce salt.
Then the Hinduism in Bali; Sophie learns about Hinduism at the Temple of Uluwatu, the temples dedicated to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the family altars (the families made offerings to get peace and serenity in their life),the traditional rituals (teeth filing, marriages , burial and cremations which are important moments in the life of the Balinese people.
Sophie has made very nice encounters: Gusti and all his family (the family altar, the ceremony in the Besakih temple), John of the Jungle with the visit of the rice fields, the walk in the jungle and the meeting with the stonecutters, Wayan Karyan the priestess of the Besakih Temple.
I enjoyed very much the Balinese landscapes, Uluwatu, the sanctuary near a great cliff, the seaside at Kutur, the countryside at Ababi and the Temple of Besakih and also I appreciate very much the kindnesss of the Balinese men and women.
