- Hannah and Elijah have an acrimonious roommate break-up following the cocaine fueled revelation that Elijah had sex with Marnie. The result of their break-up is that Hannah kicks him out as her roommate. Regardless, Hannah feels that she has to include "friend" Marnie among the invitees to her party to celebrate her article, she not expecting Marnie to show. Marnie does end up showing up. Others invited include Shoshana and Ray, and Charlie, who brings his girlfriend Audrey. The party doesn't end up the way anyone wanted as the Marnie/Charlie relationship issue comes to a head as does Hannah's side in the matter. And Shoshana comes to a realization about Ray, the situation which he failed to disclose. People not attending are Jessa and Thomas-John, who are having dinner with his parents, this being the first time Jessa would have met them. Thomas-John wants Jessa to be on her best behavior, meaning not being herself, which could cause problems.—Huggo
- SHORT VERSION -- Elijah moves out. Hannah throws a dinner party with Charlie (who came with Audrey) storming out to catch Marnie who has also stormed out. Shoshanna realizes Ray has been unofficially living with her, but after a heartfelt confession from Ray, both declare their love for each other. Jessa and Thomas-John break up after having a tension-filled dinner with his parents.
LONG VERSION -- At their apartment, Elijah (Andrew Rannells) packs his things and argues with Hannah at the same time. When Elijah tells her he's not going to pay this month's rent, Hannah (Lena Dunham) insists that he will, but Elijah reminds her that he bought all her burritos (with add-ons) when they were dating Junior year . . . and he also paid for a butt plug.
At their apartment, Thomas-John (Chris ODowd) is not looking forward to meeting his parents for dinner to introduce them to Jessa (Jemima Kirke). Jessa tries to distract TJ by teasing him with her good breast.
Hannah has sold her first piece to Jazzhate and is making a celebratory dinner while chatting with her guests Charlie (Christopher Abbott) and Audrey (Audrey Gelman). Marnie (Allison Williams) comes in, is not happy to see the couple, and heads straight for the bathroom. Hannah explains to Charlie and Audrey that she invited Marnie but didn't think Marnie would come given that they've had a falling out. When Charlie asks what happened, Hannah zips her lips saying that she can't tell him because it would hurt him.
As they are all chatting, Charlie proudly reports that Audrey and a friend are starting a mustard company. Marnie concedes she is a hostess at a club. Ray (Alex Karpovsky) and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) show up, late. Shosh blurts out a convoluted excuse but Ray admonishes her, saying that they are all adults, and that they were late because they were having sex.
TJ and Jessa are late and his parents are drinking at the restaurant bar because their party was incomplete. Jessa apologizes to being the cause of their tardiness and goes to get them seated.
As dinner winds down, Hannah admits that, unlike Marnie, there is nothing she wouldn't try sexually -- like a butt plug. Shosh says she does not know what that is and they explain it to her. She asks Ray if he wants that. Marnie cringes at the repeated use of the term and Audrey taunts her by repeating it. Ray muses that Marnie is upset because she's thinking of Charlie's butthole right now but that Audrey is there so Marnie has no access. Marnie says she has no feelings for Charlie but Audrey challenges her about the times Marnie has shown up wherever she and Charlie were hanging out, and about the night, recently, when she showed up at Charlie's door, asking for a place to sleep. Marnie repeats she has no feelings for Charlie but Audrey accuses her of being a psycho. When Marnie asks Hannah which one of them should leave, Hannah suggests Charlie can choose and Marnie storms out.
Hannah tries to quell the situation by making small talk with Ray about his living situation, but Charlie gets up, says he's going to the bathroom, and goes out the front door. Hannah and Ray pick up their thread and Ray states he's been staying at various friends' places. Shosh, thinking aloud, says Ray stayed at her place last night, the previous night, the night before that . . . and then it dawns on her that Ray has been living with her.
At the restaurant, the conversation goes all over the place with Jessa revealing she only spent 7 months in college, left to go to rehab for heroin addiction, does not have a job, and does not believe in God. TJ's dad (Griffin Dunne), a lot tipsy, rolls with it, but his mom (Deborah Rush) is on a slow burn.
Charlie finds Marnie on the rooftop. He apologizes for Audreys behavior because she is insecure and threatened because she knows how much Marnie means to him. Marnie doesnt understand why Audrey is intimidated because Marnie is constantly worried about her future. Charlie kisses Marnie but she pushes him away, saying she is with Booth Jonathan. Charlie, frustrated, can't believe she's even interested in that Ewok in Capri pants and storms off.
Back in the apartment, Audrey has taken off and Ray guesses the obvious -- that its because Charlie ran out after his ex. Shosh says its because Audrey felt used like SHE does by Ray about their living arrangement. Charlie disparages Marnie but Hannah defends her saying that Marnies had an awful year including sleeping with a gay man. When Charlie asks Hannah what she means, Hannah says that's none of his business.
TJ and Jessa come home in full argument; Jessa saying she was only honestly answering his parents questions. Jessa accuses him of latching on to her because it makes him cool. TJ accuses her of being with him for his money. They continue to argue, TJ declaring that this was the biggest mistake he's ever made, and she punching him squarely in the face. When he recovers, he asks her how much money it will take for her to leave. They haggle and settle on $11,500. TJ says now she'll have another story to tell and she throws one of his trophies at him.
In the subway, Ray admits to being in-between places, and jobs, and that he didn't want Shosh to know he's a loser. He asks why she even wants to be with him and Shosh says she loves him. Then Ray says he loves her.
Hannah is in her tub singing "Wonderwall". Jessa surprises her and joins her in the tub. She starts sobbing and wipes her nose onto her hand and then dips her hand in the bath water. Hannah is grossed out saying even SHE wouldn't do something like that. Jessa giggles, stopping her sobbing. They hold hands.
