Strange Start
Nedra Merle plays the title song for the first half of this soundie, while chorus girls in feathered hats and gauzy skirts dance. This is succeeded by Cliff Edwards performing the song on his ukulele.
Soundies were short films, usually about three minutes in length, meant to be played on a machines called a Mills Panaram. You could find these devices in bars, diners, nightclubs, and other places where an ordinary jukebox might be placed. The difference was that you got a visual component to the song. Between 1940 and 1946, Mills and a few other companies produced more than 2,000 of them.
Edwards is in fine form, doing some scat and eye-rolling along the way.
