The Real Story: Apollo 13 (2012)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Ron Howard's APOLLO 13 was one of the biggest hits of the year. Not only did the film make a ton of money at the box office but it was also applauded by critics and the Acamedy voters. This documentary covers the behind-the-scenes story of the all-too-near tragedy and educates us on what in the movie was all Hollywood.
What's so great about this episode is that we not only get an interview with Howard himself but we also hear from a couple of the astronauts who survived as well as other experts who discuss why the explosion happened. The most interesting moments of this documentary are when the astronauts discuss a few things that didn't really happen but in the movie they are major moments. We then cut to Howard who explains why stuff needs to be made up in order to get a dramatic effect. I personally understand where Howard is coming from as movies aren't meant to be documentaries. This episode also goes beyond the movie and gives us a better explanation of what happened the caused the mission to go bad.
