A first look at Creature Commandos is right around the corner, Superman is still shooting, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow should begin production later this year. Oh, and work on Peacemaker season 2 is also well underway.
The new Dcu is rapidly taking shape and it's looking increasingly likely Max's Lanterns will be next to reveal its cast and creative team.
It's previously been reported that DC Studios has enlisted Chris Mundy (a writer and producer for Criminal Minds) as Lanterns' showrunner, and scooper @MyTimeToShineH is today claiming that comic book writer Tom King is a co-writer on the show.
We know he's part of Gunn's Dcu braintrust and penned the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series the movie is named after and based on. He also counts the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Mister Miracle among his many DC Comics credits.

It’s been over a year since the release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ marking the conclusion of the team’s journey as we knew it. It also served as James Gunn’s final directorial venture for the MCU before he transitioned full-time into directing for the newly established Dcu.
Chris Pratt’s character, Star-Lord, received a fitting conclusion; despite losing the girl, he gained something far more significant: the chance to rediscover what he lost when he was abducted by Yondu. The film’s closing scenes depict Peter enjoying a meal with his maternal grandfather, leaving viewers with the hopeful message, “Star-Lord will return.”
Certainly, Peter Quill remains a significant figure in the MCU, being one of its most beloved characters. Thus, it seemed inevitable that he would make appearances in future projects. However, a seed of doubt was planted, given Rocket Raccoon’s assumption of leadership...

It’s been more than a year since ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.’ was released. It marked the end of the team as we knew it, and it was also the last movie that Gunn would direct for the MCU before he transitioned full-time into helming the newly established Dcu.
Chris Pratt’s character, Star-Lord got the ending he deserved, he lost the girl but gained something much better, the opportunity to figure out what he lost when he was abducted by Yondu. In the last scenes of the movie, Peter is enjoying a meal with his maternal grandfather, the final message being “Star-Lord will return.”
Obviously, Peter Quill is a massive part of the MCU and one of the most popular characters, so it was only logical that he would return to subsequent projects, but then again the seed of doubt has been sown considering that Rocket...

Before James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired to take charge of DC Studios, a Green Lantern TV series was in the works revolving around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott.
The story was set to play out across two different time periods, deepening Lantern lore. However, while it was heading to Max, we expected it to be more in line with Titans and Doom Patrol rather than a big budget superhero series akin to those seen on Disney+, for example.
There was chatter about it tying into the planned Green Lantern Corps movie, though, and an impressive cast started coming together with Finn Wittrock tapped as Guy and Jeremy Irvine set to play Alan.
Now, Wittrock - best known for American Horror Story and All My Children - has broken his silence on being ousted from the role when DC Studios set out to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu.

When Gunn & Safran assumed control of Dceu, transforming it into Dcu as co-chairmen and co-CEOs, they unveiled an ambitious lineup of movies and shows. Among them was ‘Lanterns,’ a live-action cosmic detective series centered on three prominent Green Lanterns from the comics.
While details about the show remain scarce, it’s confirmed that one of the featured Lanterns will be Guy Gardner, portrayed by Nathan Fillion, a long-standing fan-favorite choice for the role.
In a recent interview with Collider, Fillion expressed his immense excitement for the role and his deep affection for Guy Gardner’s character.

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold....

Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, was a critical disaster for DC. The film was panned by fans and critics alike, and even Reynolds refused to suit up to play Hal Jordan again.
Unfortunately, the film’s failure was not just limited to the box office. It had far-reaching effects, and one of the victims of the catastrophe was DC’s animated show. Green Lantern: The Animated Series could not evade the chopping block either, and its cancellation was tied to Reynold’s forgettable outing as the superhero.

Among the highly anticipated shows were ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘Lanterns,’ and we’re excited to share some updates on them.

However, plans shifted with the announcement in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, indicating a change in direction. However, plans changed when it was revealed in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, indicating a shift in direction. James Gunn has been filming for his upcoming Dcu film Superman in Svalbard, Norway. The filmmaker and DC Studios co-chief recently confirmed that a second season of the hit show Peacemaker will be filming soon and that he would be directing some episodes of the series as he was also working on Superman. Gunn also said that the spinoff series Waller was in development.
Gunn revealed that season one of Peacemaker was not canon to the Dcu as the shared universe only begins when the animated show Creature Commandos begins to air. The filmmaker mentioned that season two, however, would be canon to the Dcu and would take place after Superman, leading fans to be more confused about the timeline of the universe.

Do you really, do you really wanna taste it? Yes, we do! But where will that taste — that is, season two of Peacemaker — land in the DC Universe timeline? That was one of the biggest questions when it was announced that the Dcu would be replacing the Dceu. But James Gunn has stepped in to clear up any confusion…even if it still might be a little unclear just how it will all eventually come together.
James Gunn took to Threads — as he has grown quite fond of — to address where season two of Peacemaker sits in the evolving DC Universe, writing that it “will take place after the events in Superman.” It’s absolutely also worth noting that Gunn said that season one — which was released in 2022 and so part of the Dceu — is not canon in the Dcu. Gunn and Safran are pushing forward with their revamped Dcu, with several projects currently in the works. One notable project is ‘Superman,’ which recently began filming in Atlanta. Another significant project, ‘Peacemaker,’ was confirmed to be part of the Dcu, with Season 2 already in development. Gunn assured fans that the transition between Dceu and Dcu, at least concerning ‘Peacemaker,’ will be smooth and clear. Gunn also announced that Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’ is fully written and will receive more attention after ‘Superman’ wraps filming. Recent rumors suggest that filming for ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and the upcoming show ‘Waller’ may happen concurrently in 2024, based on information shared by Daniel Richtman on his private Patreon.

They said who the writers were working on the big story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson (who wrote ‘The Flash’), Christal Henry, and comic book writer Tom King. The idea was to split the stories into parts, with the first one being ‘Gods and Monsters.’ This part had five movies: ‘Superman’ (2025), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’

It’s been a while since Gunn and Safran took over what was formerly known as Dceu and overhauled it as Dcu. More than a year ago Gunn and Safran presented their plans for ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters,’ In January 2023, the DC cinematic universe was described as undergoing a significant but not total overhaul, with plans for a multi-year storyline.
James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the initial projects of this new slate on January 31. They disclosed the writers collaborating on the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson (who wrote ‘The Flash’), Christal Henry, and comic book writer Tom King. The plan involved dividing the stories into chapters, with the first named ‘Gods and Monsters.’ This chapter encompassed five films: ‘Superman’ (2025), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’

Whether you loved The Batman (2022) or thought it was overhyped, it's hard to find anyone who didn't at least enjoy Colin Farrell's unique take on the Penguin.
So, when it came time to pitch a spin-off, Farrell's scene-stealing crime boss seemed the natural choice. He steals your attention anytime he's on the screen, and who doesn't love an epic crime drama?
Details on the new TV series following Oswald Cobblepot are scant at present, but we've managed to dig up a bit of info to whet the appetite.
Has The Penguin Been Greenlit?
Yes, The Penguin is in post-production as of the time of this writing, so go ahead and get excited. This isn't one of those things they announce, and then everyone forgets about it; it's actually happening.
Filming has already wrapped, and now it's simply a matter of waiting for the release date.
How Did The Batman End?...

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu was officially concluded and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu officially took over as the primary cinematic universe for DC characters. Now we do know that plenty of projects are in development as a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, and one of the most notable ones is a live-action show focusing on Green Lanterns aptly titled ‘Lanterns.’
Geoff Johns originally had a script for a Green Lantern Corps film set in the Dceu, scheduled for release by the end of 2019. However, plans shifted when it was announced in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, suggesting a change in direction. Efforts have been made to distance the series from the CW’s Arrowverse, possibly to appeal to those disinterested in the Arrowverse’s lower-budget productions.

Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the reins of DC, fans have been excited about the prospect of seeing some of their favorite characters star in revamped projects as well as witness the return of several forgotten characters. One of these most popular characters is Hal Jordan from the Green Lanterns Corps.
Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern
Last appearing in the complete disaster of a movie starring Ryan Reynolds, the character is a fan-favorite of comic book fans who have been dying to witness a more faithful adaptation. With Gunn rebooting the entire DC verse and Jordan set to appear in the upcoming DC show, Lanterns, fans have found the perfect actor for the role. And it is Robert Downey Jr.’s Oppenheimer co-star, Alden Ehrenreich.

With the debut of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the Dceu gracefully bows out, paving the way for Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu to take the reins. For the past year, it’s been clear that the Dcu will emulate the successful structure of the MCU, with planned phases or “chapters.” The inaugural chapter, ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ leading the charge. However, Gunn has revealed that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will serve as the unofficial launch of this new era.
One significant transition involves ‘Peacemaker,’ shifting from the Dceu to the freshly established Dcu. Gunn has assured fans that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, already in the works, will seamlessly integrate into the Dcu canon, promising a smooth transition and clarity for viewers.
Gunn, known for engaging with fans on social media, recently affirmed on Threads that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 has been completely scripted.

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu was finally retired and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu took over. We’ve known for a year up to this point that Dcu will closely follow the example set by the MCU and that the cinematic universe will consist of several phases or rather “chapters.” The first such chapter in the Dcu was announced to be ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first project released as a part of ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos’ but Gunn already stated that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be the unofficial start of the new Dcu.
Now, one notable project will be transferred from Dceu into the newly established Dcu, and that’s ‘Peacemaker.’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development when Gunn clarified that the show will be canon to the Dcu and that he will make it work in a way that...

The early 2020s have been a pretty rough period for DC Studios so far. The last seven Dceu movies have all been box-office disappointments, and since 2022’s ‘The Batman,’ which is separated from Dceu, DC Studios hasn’t released a commercially successful movie. This year’s ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ was this year’s first box office failure, with only $133.8 million grossed worldwide against a budget of $125 million. On top of that, we know that Dceu is facing a soft reboot. Therefore, Zachary Levi’s future as Shazam is under a big question mark.
Levi debuted as Shazam in the original ‘Shazam!’ movie, which was released in 2019 as a part of then-dc Films’ plan to focus more on standalone movies. The movie received positive reviews for its family story and sense of fun and grossed $367.7 million worldwide, which maybe doesn’t sound much, but it was enough to grant it a sequel,...

It’s been a week since ‘Blue Beetle,’ the newest DC movie, opened in theaters, and judging by the first weekend only, WB and DC Studios are listing this as their fourth DC flop in a row. 2022’s ‘The Batman’ remains the latest commercially successful DC movie, and it looks like it’s going to stay like that for a while now.
Despite the fact that ‘Blue Beetle’ is still very early in its theatrical run, grossing a little over $40 million worldwide for the opening weekend is already enough to call it a flop, particularly because ‘The Flash,’ another commercial disappointment for DC one and of the biggest box-office flops in history, grossed $139 million in its opening weekend.
At this point, the future of Xolo Maridueña as the Blue Beetle, despite the fact that he was born to play this role, is very uncertain, regardless of James Gunn’s promises about his future in Dcu,...

This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken the reins of the new DC Universe of movies and TV series, the new cinematic univese born from the ashes of the Dceu that began with 2013’s Man of Steel. Interestingly, the new Dcu will also kick off with the Last Son of Krypton, this time in Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. But although Superman: Legacy is set to be the Dcu’s first official installment, Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle has been confirmed to be the “first” Dcu character.
Ángel Manuel Soto’s Blue Beetle comes in the wake of The Flash’s box office disappointment, and according to the first reviews, it’s a movie with real heart. The end of Blue Beetle neatly sets up Jaime Reyes for a sequel, but beyond that, the movie also secretly teases...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Blue Beetle,” now playing in theaters.
Warner Bros.’ “Blue Beetle” has arrived, and it marks another in-between point for the DC Universe, which is in the middle of being rebooted by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new co-CEOs of DC Studios.
The most recent DC movie, June’s “The Flash,” effectively rebooted the entire superhero universe by smashing together different worlds and timelines of beloved heroes. That movie intertwined multiple versions of Flash, Batman, Superman and Supergirl, leaving behind a mixed-up, mainline world that has yet to define who sits on the current roster of heroes.
So where does Blue Beetle fit into that new DC world?
Besides a few mentions of Batman, Superman, the Flash and cities like Gotham City, Metropolis and Central City — Jaime rocks a Gotham Law hoodie, while Uncle Rudy (George Lopez) jokingly scoffs at Batman, calls the...

Regardless of what you might think about James Gunn, there’s no denying that he’s really come a long way since he directed 2014’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Back then, he was an unknown filmmaker who was promising a lot thanks to his first superhero movie.

And what’s even more important, he officially signed to write and direct ‘Superman: Legacy,’ the movie that will officially kick off Dcu in exactly two years!

Whether you like it or not, it’s a fact that the Dceu reboot, officially called Dcu, is imminent. Dceu has suffered several box-office failures in a row, and it’s pretty likely that the same fate awaits the last two Dceu movies; ‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ With some many problems, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios can only hope for a good start of Dcu to make all those Dceu problems worth something.
James Gunn has already announced the first five Dcu movies and five TV shows that will be set in Dcu’s Chapter 1, titled Gods and Monsters. James Gunn has found his hero: David Corenswet has officially been cast as Clark Kent/the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. He’ll be joined by Rachel Brosnahan, who has been tapped to play Lois Lane in the DC Studios film. Gunn himself confirmed the news on Twitter, adding, “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.”
The news comes after a months-long talent search. Both Corenswet and Brosnahan’s names have been at the top of the pile since May, while Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were also vying for the cape and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were up for The Daily Planet’s star reporter. Reports that Gunn and his co-dc Studios boss, Peter Safran, had screen-tested all six actors earlier this month signaled that a final decision was near.

The first chapter of the new DC Universe will officially get underway with Superman: Legacy, but the movie may also introduce a few other upcoming Dcu characters. The original team consisted of Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor, Swift, Apollo, Midnighter, The Doctor, and The Engineer. After teasing that he and fellow DC Studios CEO Peter Safran today began talking up some of the movies and shows we can expect. And that includes new versions of Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Green Lantern and more. Watch the announcement here, and read the full breakdown below.
Gunn started by confirming that the existing DC movies still to be released — Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom – will all still make it to cinemas, with The Flash and its universe-rebooting nature proving key to helping to usher in the new paradigm. They will lead into what Gunn and Safran are calling 'Gods And Monsters', effectively the first chunk of the first part of the plan. It'll be a mix of TV (both animated and live-action) and movies, with games tying in as needed.
So what can we expect? Gunn talked up 10 initial titles.

A Game of Thrones-style drama set on Wonder Woman’s home island of Themyscira (Amazonian palace intrigue). And an animated series already in production (Creature Commandos … wait, what?).
That’s just part of what will be coming to theaters and TV screens as part of DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new slate.
The pair have been busy in the three months since taking over and combining the film and television slate of DC properties, including live-action and animation as well as gaming. They revamped the way the movie and TV sides do business, cutting ties with projects and creators. A writers room was formed to find an overall story that will launch a unified DC Universe. Creators have been approached.
