An emotional episode.

Vincent Petit has made it bit since leaving a children's home on The Island, he returns to a fundraising event at The Home. Selwyn is uncomfortable when his daughter arrives on The Island.

Pretty good, with the spin-off series arriving soon, Beyond Paradise, my interest in the show has peaked again.

It's a good mystery, a well thought out, well imagined, and well acted. First off, where did Neville spring up from when the body was found?

A decent mystery, one I enjoyed, but the best part was Selwyn's story, and didn't we get to see the best of Don Warrington, I thought he was terrific here, I loved those scenes with Andrina. Do we know Genesis left Silent Witness.

I really did enjoy the summing up scene, wonderfully Agatha Christie with all of the suspects lined up, plenty of intrigue, not the outcome I had expected.

7/10.

Warning: Spoilers
Vincent Petit is a native of the island who has made it big in the construction business outside of it.

He has returned to Saint Marie to give a speech and raise money for a children's home that he resided in.

Commissioner Patterson and several members of his team are present. Soon after Petit has given his speech he is found stabbed.

The initial suspect is Marianne Laforge who managed the children's home. However DI Neville Parker thinks that she might be covering up for someone else.

The knife she had was not the one that was used to kill Petit.

Also Petit despite his success was a troubled soul. He had not got over growing up in a children's home.

Meanwhile Commissioner Patterson prepares to meet his secret daughter for the first time.

This was a good convoluted mystery. Several key suspects. There was a spanner in the works when the actual knife that killed Petit was found at a kids party some miles away.

Guest starring Genesis Lynea as Andrina Harper

Warning: Spoilers
This game changing episode has Commissioner Patterson meeting his daughter Andrina Harper (played by Genesis Lynea) for the first time. I was kind of hoping that Melanie Janine Brown MBE, otherwise known as Mel B or Scary Spice, would have been cast as the daughter, to kind of give a boost and connect with those who grew up on the Spice Girls.

But still, that's not taking anything away from Genesis, who does an impressive job as the long-lost and estranged daughter.

One thing I like about this episode is the ins and outs of the construction industry and how the innocent can suffer when things go wrong.

The Crying Commissioner.

Warning: Spoilers
Last year, I stumbled into this detective procedural/case of the week/murder mystery series with a picturesque backdrop. I loved the cast, most of the cases and escaping and getting lost in paradise where political, social and identity agendas take a backseat to an entertaining script most of the time. I watched Season One, loved it and got caught up on all the seasons that followed. Seasons One through Eight were the best. Season 12 is finally airing here in America. At this point, I don't know how tourism is not dead on the Island of Saint Marie, considering the many, many murders. So far, Season 12 has been my least favorite. The cast lacks chemistry. I'm not buying Darlene as a police officer-in-training. Why is Marlon so goofy and giddy now? He used to be slick, wylie, resourceful and charming. Too much Commissioner Selwyn. I liked his grumpy authority in doses. If you have to keep finding something for a character to do that storyline doesn't add or connect to the flow of the show, you need to get rid of the character. Who cares about the Commissioner's pink-haired androgynous-looking long, lost daughter? Why this late in the game? How is she darker than me and I have two Black parents? Why did the Commissioner do that ugly Kim Kardashian cry face? It was quite comical. I've also noticed a pattern the last few episodes including this one - DI Neville is being sidelined with DS Naomi taking the lead. If that continues, I'm done because now it feels like an agenda's being pushed. As for the case of the week, the first half worked. The second half did not. The mystery and investigation got and kept my attention. The final reveal and motive fell flat and was unrealistic. Aaron Taylor Johnson and France's President Macron is the reality. I don't approve, but that's normally the outcome in those scenarios. The final minutes signal DI Neville will be the lead again and maybe the focus of a case, which is a good thing.
