So, this hit home for me. I used to work in the fine art sphere in an unfathomably wealthy county. I didn't care about the art, to be honest. Oil paintings of the same landscape over and over, selling to decorate second and third vacation homes for thousands of dollars each didn't matter to me.
This show that Dulé is doing, the work that these people are sharing, is the real story of why art matters. Art, creation, expression, cultural connection, is really the root of humanity. It doesn't seem important because it isn't housing or food or war, but it is what makes us feel. It is what makes us human. That is a primary need.
