- Beginning of the journey in the ski resort of La Bresse: Sophie meets Charles Poirot, a ski instructor, carpenter and beekeeper: they go down skiing to a hamlet where the father of Charles lives in an old mountain chalet (built in 1739), then they visit the "Confiserie des Hautes Vosges", managed by Jean-Marie Claudepierre; Fabienne ,the daughter of Jean-Marie , sells candies to Sophie and later Sophie sees how Damien, the son of Jean-Marie, makes the candies: the sugar is cooked in copper cauldrons, then Damien adds fir buds essential oil and menthol to the paste: later Charles shows Sophie his carpentry workshop where he produces shingles (clapboards) used to protect the facades of the mountain houses.Then Sophie is in Epinal : she goes to the skating rink where she meets Anthony Maurice, a former ice hockey player and now manager of the ice hockey team of the Dolphins of Epinal: in the night ice hockey team of the Dolphins against the team of Villars de Lens: victory of the Dolphins.On the morning Anthony and Sophie visit the ramparts of the castle of Epinal:later Sophie meets Fabienne Houillon of the print of the famous Epinal images and Sophie sees how the images are printed with the Gutemberg press.Then Sophie travels to the castle of Haut Koenigsberg: Nathaniel Colas, the guide, explains her the story of the caste (built in the 12th century by German nobles (Holy Roman Empire): in this castle Jean Renoir filmed a scene of "La Grande Illusion": then Nathaniel is dressing Sophie with a chain mail, an armor and a helmet like a medieval knight.Later Sophie travels to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges: she makes a mountain bike tour in the mountain of Ormont to Reach the "Roche Saint-Martin" with Yacine El Fath a compositor and singer, they enjoy the panorama and come back to Saint-Dié where they see the Tower of the Liberty , a museum with jewels of the painter Braque.At night Sophie listen to the concert of Yacine in a cafe.Then Sophie travels to the "Val-d'Ajol" where she meets Cédric Bongeot, a chef and they pay a visit to Joseph Lopes, a sheep breeder, they taste sheep cheese, they buy there sheep cheese and go to the butcher where they buy sausage ("andouilles d'Ajol"): Cédric prepares a dish combining fish and mutton.After that Sophie returns to La Bresse area where she meets Doug Meachen and the have a walk with snowshoes through the snowy forest, they meet Jean-Marc Antoine, a musician who plays alp-horn, a traditional music instrument used by the shepherds to communicate with their family.Finally Sophie joins the "Refuge du Sotré": a mountain refuge: the visitors eat ham combined with liver and listen to a man playing harmonica the song of the film "Les Grandes Gueules with Lino Ventura and Bourvil who was filmed in the Vosges. Besides we see zooms about Michel Pierrat, the mountain guide (snowshoes tours), about the ski resort of La Bresse with its snow blowers, about Vincent Drillon (the naturalist), about the forests in the Vosges, about the Poirot family and their wood industry, about Magali Villeneuve and Alexandre Dainch (two illustrators), about the School of Art of Epinal, about the water-finder Philippe Ghin, about the water sources in the Vosges, about Franck Vaxelaire (the snow kite and paragliding) and about Philippe and the hunting in the Vosges.—zutterjp48
