Netflix's shadiest horror franchise is targeting its next set of victims. The slasher series "Fear Street" debuted back in 2021 as three full-length movies set in the fictional but aptly-named town of Shadyside, based on author R.L. Stine's popular "Cheerleaders" sub-trilogy within the "Fear Street" novels. The mega-sized special event was released over the course of three consecutive weeks on the streaming service (check out /Film's spoiler review of the movies here), pulled in a ton of viewers, earned consistently high praise among critics, and served up all sorts of gory kills and supernatural chills -- along with one heck of a memorable kill by a particularly deadly bread slicer. Fans have been clamoring for more sequels ever since and rumors of new movies have swirled since at least 2022, but now we've heard straight from the studio that another release has officially been greenlit.

It's a good time to be an R.L. Stine fan. After adapting his "Cheerleaders" trilogy in 2021, Netflix is back to adapt another "Fear Street" novel, this time as a standalone movie. Stine himself announced the news on X/Twitter yesterday:
"A new 'Fear Street' movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It's based on my 'Fear Street' book, 'The Prom Queen.' Good news!"
The 1992 novel takes place once again in the appropriately-named town of Shadyside. The town's high school has prom coming up, and there are five potential Prom Queen candidates in the running. But somebody starts killing the girls one by one, and it's up to main character Lizzie McVay to get to the bottom of things before she herself is murdered. In 2022 it was reported that Chloe Okuno (director of "Watcher" and "Slut") had closed a deal to direct the next "Fear Street" movie,...

Give Me an A is a a horror, sci-fi, dark comedy response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and will be screening Sunday April 2nd at 3:30 at the Overlook Film Festival. Ahead of the fest, I caught up with Natasha Halevi, who talked about the origins of this film, the quick turnaround on the project, tackling this important subject, and more:
Give Me an A was created as a response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. How did the idea of this project first come about?
On June 24th, 2022 Roe v. Wade was overturned. Like a lot women (and anyone of any gender affected) I crumpled to the ground sobbing. I felt powerless and totally out of control. I knew in many states people would be affected immediately. I heard the Clarance Thomas statement that contraception and same sex marriage would be next so I knew this...

Netflix has dropped the trailer for Season 2 of “Sex Education,” and this year there have been some changes at Moordale Secondary — namely, a really bad chlamydia outbreak.
But have no fear — Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson) is here. Otis (Asa Butterfield) looks on in horror as his mother stands before the school assembly to start “an open conversation about S-e-x,” which inspires one classmate to shout out, “Didn’t you wank off a courgette?” (That’s British for zucchini).
Watch the trailer above.

“Last Chance U” director Greg Whiteley is bringing us a fresh perspective on a sport he says most people “think think know a lot about, but they actually don’t.”
His new Netflix docuseries, “Cheer,” debuts on Jan. 8. And instead of following junior college football players like “Last Chance U,” this docuseries follows an entirely different brand of athlete — co-ed, junior collegiate cheerleaders.
“They’re the toughest athletes I’ve ever filmed,” Whiteley told TheWrap ahead of the series premiere. “It’s not even close. And that’s no slight to football players.”
