This episode features a subplot where Dr.Freiderich Werthers is a stand-in for Dr.Fredric Werham a real-life psychologist who wrote a book in the 1950s called Seduction of the Innocent where he accused comic book publishers of causing children to seek out a life of crime, sexual depravity, violence with their publications. This caused an uproar and led to a congressional hearing investigating comics' effects on children. Due to this, The Comics Code Authority was created to censor comics, specifically horror and crime comics which were the most popular comic books at that time
