I did not watch "Jon & Kate Plus 8," but it was impossible not to be aware of all the DRAMA surrounding the show in the mid-2000s. After seeing this episode -- and I've never written a review for a single episode of a series -- I'm forced to ask how JON became the bad guy when it was quite obvious that Kate was the worst, not only of the two of them, but just the worst. Period.
HUNGRY for publicity and the public eye, she seems to have made sure that for her own self-aggrandizement, her kids were exploited from the time they could walk. Collin, featured in this episode, got it the worst. After the divorce from Jon, when Kate had full custody of the kids, she put Collin into a "special school" for behavioral problems out in Pennsylvania. He remained there for at least 18 months without a visit or seemingly any contact from her. In addition to this horror, she wouldn't tell her kids or Jon where Collin was. By Collin's take, he became an inconvenience to Kate because he didn't always act the way she wanted him to, so she shipped him off to Pittsburgh.
The rift in the family remains to this day. Kate has so poisoned the rest of the children, except one, that they have decided NOT to have any relationship with Collin and haven't seen or spoken to him since 2016. He was in a near-fatal car accident and STILL nobody from Kate on down to the six kids she still CONTROLS, reached out to him.
Granted, there are two sides to every story, but Collin's and Jon's version sounded quite real. So, again I'm left to wonder, why was Jon portrayed as the bad guy? Kate should be investigated by their local DCFS.
All in all, a good episode, revealing a lot of backstory from one of the first successful "reality shows" that we're all inundated with now. The Dark Side of the 2000s, indeed. Recommended.
