Unfunny mess
Rodrigo_Amaro19 November 2023
That was a tough thing to endure from the very first minute, though it had some small funny moments that deserve some credit, and even some view of those particular moments, but the movie as a whole is a messy wreck. The complicated love story revolving a loud, showy and talkative mess of a con-man (Nassim Lyes) with a more experienced person in the field (Zoé Marchal) and how they end up facing the same enemy, a dangerous guy involved in gambling, and how at times this couple might suspect each other of pulling up a con against one another. And if there's a con involved in the 21st century, then it's all about cryptocurrency, baby!

"All-Time High" goes way too fast, way too talkative with characters throwing lots of unfunny lines at each other non-stop and most of the time just creating chaos and confusion and shouting at each other. Early on, when the guy meets Adele Exarchopoulos (playing herself), she and her friends keep telling him that's his giving them a headache. They were so right. A man in that kind of business of cheating and scamming people cannot go in such a flashy and careless way, awfully loud and unfunny to succeed at something. Plus: he keeps telling Stephanie, his new mate, that she's ugly. Well, here's a totally unattractive guy who gets a pass since (as she says in one scene) his body is sick and the movie keeps telling us that the good-looking women fall for him because of his humor and jokes.

Besides the hurry in presenting countless things to audiences, either funny moments or throwing lots of unbelievable moments, we have an overdose of overdesigned action sequences that fail to engage, to excite or to even feel humored about them. The idea of showing things as if everybody is punching and kicking each otherand moving around in one continous take is idiotic and anyone can see that there are thousands of editings in those sequences, since digital allows such things and plus, it was all ugly and excessively made that one may laugh at the absurdity of it all with the guy throwing gym equipments at the henchmen heads like it's nothing.

But I'll say this: the playful fight between the couple that later on becomes a sex scene where they tease each other with their fetish things is hilarious. While we don't see much of what happens since the shots are focused on the actors faces, the exchange between the duo is funny as hell.

Less demanding minds will find some enjoyment with this, maybe. I certainly was mostly annoyed and couldn't wait for its ending - which I kinda liked it. All I've seen was a poorly made film in all possible ways, trying so hard to be funny or even romantic and thrilling. Too much ambition can leave you empty handed and this is a solid proof. 3/10.

I had a great time
spirit-0221519 November 2023
Not long ago I was complaining about the lack of originality in French cinema, well maybe I was wrong after all. I see that the reviews are not that great on this movie and yet I had a very good time: hilarious dialogues, multiple and intense fighting scenes, crazy stunts, well-crafted storyline, surprising actors and with some scenes that are borderline violent gore.

Some will dislike the suburbs constant trashy talk, which could be irritating but I found freshness there, in the face of cinema that is sometimes academic, conventional or too commercial which tires me.

I wouild advise even french audience to use the subtitles, specially if you're older than 40 because not everyone will not understand all of the dialogues.

Not what I was expecting
Azmataz77719 November 2023
So I thought this was going to be a bit of a rom com with a scammer and he gets scammed, and the fall in love. I wasn't expecting the excessive but highly entertaining fight scenes. There was so much action in this movie that it could compare itself to the Kill Bill level of action. It gets pretty violent. It's fast-paced. It doesn't have your usual song over montage when the director is too lazy to put together a script showing the two falling in love. Yes you heard me, no montage! It was refreshing. The more I think about it, the more I want to see it again. The acting was brilliant and the character building was spot on. It's definitely worth a watch - for the action!

Loved it
Tarique-nor22 November 2023
A nice entertaining movie after a long time.

Its a litle bit confusing at first, but as the movie progresses you start enjoying it. Dont judge the movie without watching till the end.

The whole movie is about a con man who is trying to survive one con after another. Very good acting from the main character, didn't expect it. The roles of villains were not that convincing but they too played their part well. The ending is the cherry on the cake.

This movie has the combination of everything. It has comedy, drama, action, romance, tragedy.

Good movie to watch with your significant other or your friends.

A real gem!
ssofianos24 November 2023
I haven't seen such a original movie in a long long time. It had a strange humour for not native French speakers, a love story, some action and gory sequences. The fighting scenes where choreographed in the mood of the movie, when you'll see it you will understand what I'm trying to point out here. The direction was enjoyable and the plot was predictable but generally speaking it served the context of the movie. The two main characters where fantastic in their own way in the context of the film. Nassim Lyes a french upcoming action movie star and he was funny and had all the skills for some spot on action sequences. He was totally unpredictable i would say as a playboy, a pathetic liar and a conman. On the other hand Zoe Marcal role and acting was out of the ordinary for sure. She was funny, rude at times in a beautiful way, charming and had some fighting moves for sure. I hope to see them both in many films in the future. So from me it is a highly recommended film that breaks the ordinary plot which we are familiar with. A must see for sure.

Crying with laughter
gemfesty26 November 2023
This has got to be the most underrated movie of the year! Though this is classified as a comedy it could easily take an award as romantic comedy, or action comedy. I'm unfamiliar with the actors but was highly entertained by the very natural performances and solid chemistry (it felt like there were some great improve moments) - This is one of those movies where the unfamiliarity allows you to enjoy the character development without the typecasting.

Many a "laugh out loud" scenes, even to the point of tearing up! The comedy was fast paced with refreshingly original concepts.

The movie packs surprisingly tough fighting choreography and action sequences. Loved the Cyril Gane cameo, am wondering if he consulted on the fight scenes? Great to see the MMA/Brazilian jiu-jitsu incorporated.

A brilliant watch, well done to Netflix and Apple for producing some of the best entertainment this year. You won't be disappointed. 10 because this is the best French movie in years.

Pretty violent for a rom-com.
deloudelouvain24 November 2023
It was my turn to pick a movie tonight so my wife was quite surprised I chose a rom-com, like she seemed to believe Nouveaux Riches (or All Time High for the English title) was. It might be a bit of a romantic comedy but there is fore sure a lot of action and violence so even men like me will like this genre of rom-coms. The violent scenes were nicely choreographed and looked real. The acting from Nassime Lyes and Zoé Maréchal was good and resulted in a nice chemistry between them. I had doubts in the beginning but the movie turned out to be much better than I thought it would be. The French language is mostly slang so subtitles are advised for people not mastering the French street language.

Incredible, Big calvoche, wonderfull
pascartdylan25 November 2023
I laughed from start to finish, the jokes, the scenario everything is great. It's one of the funniest films I've watched, it's in the top 3, and if Calvoche is number one in the world. In a world like this, films like this do good, and there should be more of them. Nassim embodies the role perfectly, he is an incredible actor I think he deserves more recognition, and that he should be recognized for his true value because he is an incredible actor, in pure comedy I think he is the one that I prefer. Regarding Zoe I didn't know her at all but it's a very nice discovery because I find her brilliant and endearing in this character. The duo they form is great and I think we should keep it going. Thank you for this film! (ps: I am available for a casting if ever)

I love it!
manuel-cardana23 November 2023
When I started to watch I didn't have big expectations, but the story and the jokes are very funny and make the movie unique!

Action , laugh moments and also the characters are well defined and super funny!

Without spoiling the trama there is also a love story behind where a nice message come up at the end of the movie.

I didn't have the feelings at the beginning of such funny and nice movie but I had to change my mind ! I can only suggest this movie...the plot is unique and the time flies between actions , funny moments and a bit of love !

I need to admit that the French comedy are very funny and well done!

Incredible
rhodesman6223 November 2023
I have not seen such a crazy movie in a really long time. The energy and the pacing is unbelievable, hectic, fight scenes like in a Jackie Chan movie, but more fun. The actors are great, characters somewhat reminiscent of Guy Ritchie's, but with a definite French flair. You might have to slow it down or rewatch some of the scenes, because it is easy to miss stuff in such a fast-paced film. It is hard not to be a fan of those two loveable hustlers and not to root for them to find whatever they're looking for - money, love, a change of fortune and a way out of the everyday fight to scrape together an existence....

Don't know why this is being downvoted...
Shazam130329 November 2023
... but this is for one one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while and absolutely in the category of better Netflix productions. And I can honestly say everybody I recommended it too, is also having a blast. Had to give it a 10 to go against the bad scores here but this is easily a 7. It's a action packed rom-com that doesn't follow the traditional bits of romantic movies. The movie is laugh out loud fun. I watched it twice and had fun both times. Don't get influenced by the rating and watch this. You won't regret it. Of course the movie is dubbed because it is French and the dubbing is atrocious at times, but that shouldn't hinder the quality of the movie itself and you shouldn't judge off of that. Watch it and have fun!

Unbelievably good
tamannaparveenmahi11 December 2023
To be frank, i wasn't expecting much as I decided to give it a watch. But, what the hell, i enjoyed every second of the movie. This is the first review I have ever written - this impacted me so much. And I have seen all blockbusters in last 15 years.

The pacey editing, the love, the goofiness, the zoomed-in, head-spinning fight scenes, the funny jokes, the so-unfunny-that-they-sound-funny jokes. I am not exaggerating when I say I really went through all emotions - I laughed, I wept, I went 'ew', I went 'cute'. Fabulous. The filmmakers and/or Netflix should promote it the right way, or I am afraid may people will miss out on this gem. Even I would have missed it.

Also, I have fallen in love with Zoe Merchal.

Hilarious movie!
sqassab3 December 2023
Awarding it a perfect 10/10, the French comedy "Nouveaux Riches" delivers a blend of humor and insight. Following Youssef a seasoned scammer entangled in a scheme targeting Stéphanie, a wealthy crypto millionaire, the film excels in strong performances and a well-constructed plot.

Abundant humor through clever dialogue and slapstick comedy. Offers a critical view of the world of newfound wealth. Outstanding performances by the entire cast.

Engaging storyline, laden with comedic moments.

Overall, "Nouveaux Riches" stands out as a sharply witty and insightful comedy, highly recommended for those seeking an enjoyable cinematic experience.

Low score here an injustice! Fresh and funny
liellplane28 February 2024
I watched this to practise French not expecting anything other than netflix dross, but was surprised at how funny and well executed the whole thing was. All the characters were fun, especially Youseff the wig-wearing rogue. I loved the arabic/gangster vibe as well which added colour to the vernacular. The fights are great and not over-long, and some death scenes and near-death scenes at the finalé were hilarious.

Recommended, I can't think of anything quite like it apart from something like lock stock and two smoking barrels, but this was a bit less concerned trying to look cool. Its a pity to be hammered in the imdb score, its a quality bit of cinema.

Hysterically funny
PalmBeachG15 January 2024
Let your sense of humor go and you will be laughing - the ML takes the cake from scene 1 and it gets funnier as it keeps going. Even through the violent scenes of getting beat up - his one liners are hysterical. Also if you watch closely you will see funny things that you may miss especially if you are reading subtitles at the same time. For example, after his "one nighter" wild night with the girl that scammed him at poker, if you watch closely there is a message scratched into his back when he turns around with his shirt off. I had to go back it flashes so quick. All in all overall just funny rom-com with some violence but lightened with the comedy fused in with it. My 10 is for French rom-com as I have never seen one before and have nothing to compare to.

Comedy, hard core action, and absurd love
bahaata10 December 2023
Certainly, I recommend watching 'Nouveaux Riches.' This movie, representing European and particularly French cinema, uniquely blends violent fight scenes with comedy, reflecting real-life absurdities, especially in love. The performances are commendable, with the lead roles played by Nassim Lyes as Youss and Zoé Marchal as Stéphanie bringing a unique touch to their characters. Despite the story seeming implausible at times, you find yourself believing in and siding with the characters. The film, which may start a bit slowly, gradually draws you in. Other notable cast members include Guillaume Canet, Kenza Fortas, Gustave Kervern, Panayotis Pascot, Hedi Bouchenafa, Adrien Essamir, Youssef Ramal, Yovel Lewkowski, Yassine Stein, Ciryl Gane, Hakim Jemili, Alexandre Kominek, Paul Deby, and Ichem Bougheraba. If you're looking for a film that combines brilliant comedy with action and a touch of surreal romance, this is one of the best on Netflix this year.
