The cruise ship used for filming is the SS Keewatin, the only surviving Edwardian steamship in the world. It was built in 1907 and remains in working condition on the Great Lakes.
The S.S. Keewatin's permanent home is in Port McNicoll, Ontario on Georgian Bay and is open to the public for tours.
The episode takes place on May 24th, 1901: the first Victoria Day in Canada
We see the portrait of Queen Victoria being taken down in the station, presumably because Queen Victoria has died. This would place the episode shortly after January 22, 1901. We also hear Inspector Brackenried say "God save the King" rather than "God save the Queen," indicating that her successor, Edward VII, has acceded to the throne.
This episode takes place in 1901.
