There are so many scenes in this episode that feel like something out of romance novels, and that's absolutely great. We've seen countless romances like these for straight characters, but so rarely for queer characters. What a gift this show is to the universe! The earnest way it tells the story of love is almost too much to bear.
The only complaint here really is that they didn't have enough time and resources to tell the story with all the details it would've required or deserved, but that is no fault of David Jenkins nor any of the other creators. They did the absolute best they could with what they were given, and even though this episode has some jagged edges, I find it very comforting that the season does not end in any big cliffhanger.
Despite the finale feeling very... well, final, we all know Ed and Stede's story was never about the "happily ever after". So despite the season ending on a somewhat joyous note that could potentially serve as the ending of the series, it still makes you ask: "But what happens next in their relationship? Where does the crew of The Revenge end up?"
I am very much hoping for a third season, so we can see these characters grow and go on more adventures to discover themselves. Their story is not yet told in full. It's barely begun!
